This is probably a silly question but are toasters allowed in your room? Just thought it would be a great way to same some money at breakfast time.

Having a coffee pot is not the same, as there is no open heating element as in a toaster. Also the fusing of the electrical wires is not heavy enough for the wattage used by a cooking utensil.
As for the smell of food after cooking, some following guest may have an adverse reaction due to alergies.
the smell of cooked food in rooms IMO is worse than the smell of tobacco.
AS for taking a toaster or waffle maker, sandwich maker: sure why not, rules are for someone else.
