(I feel like an idiot asking this, but...) have any of you brought a small toaster along on the airplane trip? Seems like it would be safer in carry-on luggage than in checked bags, but I am wondering if it is allowed? Would it look too much like a cleverly disquised bomb?!

thanks!

Seriously, pack it in your luggage if you have to bring it. The plane has limited space in the bins for everyone and do you really want to tote a toaster around in your carry on? I put a small fan in my checked luggage every trip and never have had a problem with it. I just make sure it is in the middle of all of my clothes.

I wouldn't trust a toaster in my checked bag. If you've got space in your carry-on allowance, sure, carry it on. A toaster is allowed.

However, you can probably save yourself some hassle by sending it through the security scanner by itself. Be prepared for the security folks to look at it *very* carefully. Worst case scenario they will pull you aside for a chemical scan of both you and the toaster. It's not a big deal.

I've had a toaster in my checked bag before (post 9-11) with no problem. I bought a cheap one from Wal-Mart (under $10, I think), and just left it there when I was done.

Do you really need a toaster? If so, I'd buy it when you get to Orlando and leave it, as another poster said.

I don't understand why a toaster wouldn't do ok in a checked bag. Do you think they hand carry them from China or Taiwain or wherever the heck they are made. I've packed crystal and Christmas ornaments in a suitcase so I think a hunk of metal or plastic will survive. I'm not exactly sure how much toast you would have to eat to make it worth the bother though.
