So i'm sure most of you have heard that rumor that supposedly it's easier to style your hair a day or two AFTER you've washed it because you have a build up of hair products in there already...

so I'm wondering....

to all the brides that have been married already...

did you wash your hair the DAY OF the ceremony or the day before?

I would definitely wash my hair on the day of the ceremony but I have very oily hair so even just after washing it will will style no probs. I'd guess it depends on your hair... good luck with whatever you decide :goodvibes

I washed the morning of my wedding and Anna did my hair at 12:30.

Note: She THANKED me over and over for washing it, she said she appreciates clean hair and that the dirty hair technique is a myth.....just an FYI....:rotfl2:

It's good to know that's a myth!

Beaute Speciale is coming to do ours at 8:00am, so I will most likely wash my hair and go to bed with it still wet. Then blow it dry in the morning right before they get there. That way it's basically clean, but I don't have to get up at 7:00am to take a shower :)

Again, I think it depends on your hair. I would never was my hair on the day of the wedding, I am washing mine the night before, my hair tends to hold a style better the day after as it is too soft the day I wash it and it tends to be flyaway too. The day after it is washed it tends to be heavier and take to styling easily.

I think particular stylists might have different preferences. I'm using "About Face." They sent me a whole list of "Things to Remember on the Day of Your Wedding", which includes:

Have clean dry hair or day old dirty. It is best to use less conditioner rather than more unless we have told you otherwise. Avoid the use of "Pantene" products and any kind of smoothing agents for the hair such as silicone or "Bio Silk" or "Frizz Ease." As much as they make your hair manageable they will make it difficult, and maybe impossible, to put your hair up or enable it to hold a wave or a curl. Please clarify the hair with a clarifying shampoo the day before the wedding or use 1 tsp. of baking soda in your shampoo to cleanse, then condition from the mid shaft to end only. Do not condition scalp.

When I did my trial run (with Naomi), I asked her about the baking soda/clarifying step. She said not to bother with it.

The only other item on the list they gave me that relates to washing/not-washing hair is:

It's best not to have a massage the day of the wedding, however if you do, please shampoo the hair very well especially at the back of the neck and at the scalp.

I washed and dried mine the morning of wedding. I had wanted to wash it the night before, but I was just too tired by the time we got back to my room from the rehearsal dinner. For the magic kingdom shoot, I washed my hair before our 9 PM dinner reservations the night before the shoot.

My hair held much better for the Magic Kingdom shoot than it did for the wedding. My wedding was back in the day when you get your hair done directly through disney, and my EM actually had Sereena, who did my hair, meet me at the WP before the ceremony because some of the curls in my hair had falled during pictures. She fixed my hair in the brides vestebule before I walked down the aisle.

Good question. I bought into this myth too, had always heard girls in Miss America didn't wash their hair because it was easier to style and would hold up better if it was dirty. Well, on my wedding day my hairdresser got to our resort and made me wash my hair. I have thin, fine, not oily hair, but she said it would style better if it was clean, and she was right!

I wash my hair everyday, by 9 at night...it could use another washing. There is no way I would be able to not wash it the day of. My sister-in-law on the other hand prefers to wash every other day. I think it might be different for different hair types. I've always washed my hair the day of when I was getting it done and it always held.

I'm having my hairstylist I've had my whole life come to WDW for the wedding. She wants me to wash my hair around 6 am and let it air dry and then she'll start styling it around 8 am (she'll dry it more if it's still wet). She said I have to wash my hair the morning of the wedding. I'm not sure if it's my hair type or what :)

My mother is a stylist and especially with my hair she prefers it a day old. Disney Cosmo had me wash it that morning and it took a lot of spray to hold it in place.

I washed mine the day before but I also have really thick hair and it would have been too soft if I washed it the day of my wedding.

My hair does far better when I wash it the night before and dry it. I have thick hair and its not oily at all--so mine styles much better when its one night old -- otherwise its a little poofy and frizzy!

This is what my girl told me

wash hair, but let air dry & try and use very little conditioner

as for build up.....use a clarifying shampoo:thumbsup2

Yep, me too! I think it depends on a. what type of hair you have and b. what kind of style.

I had a hair trial in Jan and I washed my hair that morning and used some conditioner and my hair would not stay up! I suggest you ask the person doing your hair what would be the best thing for your hair and style!:goodvibes

Don't post here very often, but I popped in and this thread caught my interest. A suggestion- do not have a massage the day of your wedding! All you will do is think about the million things you have to get done and the purprose of the massage is, essentially, lost. Try doing it the day or evening before! Also, if you tell them your a bride, they will do a pretty good job at keeping all the oils and schtuff out of your hair.

If you haven't already, take a look at the Omni Spa. It's minutes from Disney, and you get a lot more bang for your buck. At a personal level, I prefer their services and setting to Disney's. I would definitely warn them that you're a bride as they use this fantastic coconut oil-- you smell like candy for days! Although my hair was wonderful (for weeks!) following the treatment, it did take a lot of scrubbing to get the oil out.

We used Anna with Makeover Majic. After doing my hair for the trial, she asked for clean dry hair the day of the wedding. I was actually in the bath when Anna arrived and started working with the other girls. So, my hair was freshly cleaned and blow-dried and she had no problems. In the past (Proms, balls, parties, etc), I've always been told to wash it the day before.

Best wishes and happy pampering!

working in a salon we always tell people that updos/formal work work best on "dirty" hair. I'm using Anna from makeover majic and everyone is saying that she likes clean hair which makes me a little bummed. the last thing I want to do is wash and blowdry my hair the night before our wedding. I have thick curly hair and it takes me 25-30 minutes to blowdry and then I usually flat iron it. I wasn't planning on bringing my flat iron at all because I was just going to wear my hair curly the rest of our trip. hmmmm.... what to do... maybe i'll contact anna to see what she says.

well I know that for my hair it looks way better when its clean, my hair gets oily fast...

We had Lisa do our hair and she instructed clean, dry hair that morning before her arrival. My hair did great, and it usually doesn't. Not to mention it felt great to have clean hair.
We took an afternoon nap after our ceremony and reception and lunch, and I left my hair up for my costume at MNSSHP that night and it stayed until after midnight! Lisa is a magician!
