To walk or not to walk a reservation...opinions

can someone explain the term, " start walking," ? thanks.

They are referring to booking a trip ahead of time and then moving it forward until they get the dates they really want,

For example, say I want to go November 1st to November 8th. My 11 month window opens December 1st,

But, I want a hard to get room so instead of waiting, I go on tomorrow and book it from October 17th to October 24th. Then, after a few days, I modify and move it forward, eventually getting the real dates,

So, depending on how important it is to get a very specific room, one can start the walking process a few weeks to months earlier.

Honestly, most rooms don’t require this in the fall, but things like AKV value, concierge, SV at BLT, BWV and RIV go fast, especially studios.

Because DVC allows us to book our arrival date + 7 nights at the 11 month window, it is possible that some or all of your desired reservation could be booked up before your 11 momty window opens. Now while it is likely only true for hard to get rooms, like BW Value rooms or my reservation for a HA GV, or which there are only 3 at OKW. OKW was built before changes to the ADA, which is also why only the 3 newest buildings have elevators. But because ALL but one GV have entrances on the 2nd floor, that means anyone who is unable to do stairs can not do a GV at OKW, unless they get the one ground floor unit or one of the 2 GVs in the bldg 63 (elevator building). I have reserved a a HA GV before my travel days, and will walk the reservation forward until it covers my dates to be sure of getting one.

FWIW, I don't like it, either. But modifying online is very easy. Do it mid - afternoon or early evening jus after MS closes. Not as much website demand at that time.

How do you do it online? I’ve never done it

Do it ! Been a member since 2011, never had to until last year (also cuz I didn't know how, I'm an idiot, I know)! Believe me, a lot of DVC members do it ! I mean I've seen it at home resorts when you should have 11 months out, might as well be 12 or 13 months now a days.

I've been thinking about this too recently.
We want a HH studio at OKW from 23rd December 2021 to 3rd January 2022.
Do you think I would need to start walking the reservation around Christmas this year, or should we be ok?

HIGHLY doubt you need to start walking that soon. My best guess is to start the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving, 2021.

There are 26 near HH studios, but remember, some of those will be reserved as 2 bedroom lock-offs. I agree, likely no need to start walking until after Thanksgiving.

Yes, that's correct. You could try to start a walk by making a reservation that begins 11/26/21. You can book that on 12/26/20. Sorry that my earlier post wasn't very clear. Good luck!
