Is this your only vacation per year or do you go other places also?
We are going to Disney for the first time in Aug. I was trying to fit in a beach trip for a week (not by ourselves, but with other family members)
and my husband vetoed it staying one *big* vacation is all we are doing in 1 year.
Last year we rented a house in Lake George (with the same family members I want to do the beach trip with) and we went to the Grand Canyon, so it's not like we have never done two vacations in one year.

I don't go all the time as you can tell, but when I do go that is the only trip I take (of course that is the only one I can afford).

Pretty much. We brought into the dvc because we found that we were returning to WDW again and again. I live on the East coast so I do go to the beach for a day or 2, but nowadays a week at the Jersey or Maryland shore can run you 1,000 bucks and up. Next year we are planning on going to Europe for our 20th anniversary so we definitely won't be doing both.

We always take a week long trip to Disney, a 4 or 5 night trip to the beach, and another trip in Jan b/c that is our anniversary. The beach trip is cheap for us b/c we have family there. The Jan trip is sometimes a second trip to Dis, sometimes not. Sometimes we take another trip in between.

I have money taken out of my paycheck and dropped straight into a savings account at my Credit Union. This is strictly for vacation and we never miss it. The fund started small, but every year I would up the amount a little.

We made a decision when we first got married that we would take vacations even if we couldn't afford it because we deserve it and you can't replace the memories. We have always been able to afford vacation -even when we were both in college, paying our way. We just had to figure out how we could take a trip with the money we had.

I love to go to Disney once a year and in order to justify that I do my best to make it as inexpensive as possible, without making the vacation seem cheap. I'm not into sit down restaurant eating on vacation - which some people absolutely love. My friend and I went last year for Free Dining. It was fun, but really too much food and time invested - it would not bother me to eat only counter service or go off-site for Olive Garden, Red Lobster, for alot better price. I am not interested in going to La Nouba or other $$$ shows when there is so much to do at Disney - yet some would never consider this. I rarely spend more than $30-50 for souvenirs; no need as often as I go and I am not a shopper anyway. It has also really helped when I go with a friend some years, instead of the whole family (3 of us total) when DH has had enough. Because of my frugality, we are always able to do another vacation - usually a driving one, i.e. Williamsburg, Hilton Head, Colorado Springs, etc. I think it is good for children to experience other venues of entertainment. But, I only feel truly alive when planning my next Disney vacation. Isn't that pitiful.

We currently only take one vacation per year - in October to Florida.

Of our past 3 trips to the World, one included a day trip to Kennedy Space Center and Daytona/Cocoa Beach, the other two had us travelling to the Keys for a week in addition to our week at WDW. This year we are staying the entire two weeks in Orlando, however, are planning a few day trips to the coast again.

On top of going to Disney if money allows we travel other places as well, but mainly to visit family where we have places to stay for free. Va Beach to visit my brother, Buffalo NY and Niagra Falls to visit one set of in-laws, Vermont to visit another set of family members, Missouri to visit another set of family members. On the years we don't go to Disney we'll take other big vacations like to Quebec and Tadoussac Canada. Looking to go to Europe next year.

We can only afford one "big" vacation a year. Last year we did Disney, and this year we are too. I hadn't planned on going back so soon, but you know how that goes . Also at the ages our kids are right now (4,4,3), Disney is the easiest place to go, and also the one place they mention all the time. Next year for our big vacation I'd like to do a beach trip--probably South Padre Island in Texas (Dh went there once years ago and want to go back). I'd also like to do the Grand Canyon within the next few years, but at this point I think the kids may be a little young for it.

We also do one or two really little trips throughout the year, just for overnight--usually to the Omaha zoo, and we've also done Mall of America a few times.

We hadn't been on vacation in 10 YEARS!!! So, we went to WDW in Feb and probably over spent but it was sooo worth it. Since A.) we haven't been on vacations in so long, and B.) we did our vacation so early in the year, we will be doing a smaller/cheaper beach vacation sometime this summer. I think everyone needs as many vacations as they can handle!

Usually that's our "big trip" and we will take a mini vacation to a lake in Vermont which I've been going to since I was little.

Life's too short to justify vacations - especially when it comes to family.

We're doing 3 WDW trips this year:

May: 8 nights
late July-Aug: 8 nights
Christmas week: 7 nights

We will do a few side trips to Ocean City this summer...probably 2 or 3 nights at a time (in-laws live there).

**We recently joined DVC...which is the reason we're able to go to WDW so much.

Last year I went to WDW a week in March
Over July 4th 5-6 days in NH w/DS and one of his friends
In Aug 2 wks at WDW - first wk w/DS, 2nd wk w/DH & DS

This year Im going to WDW a wk solo in April, wk w/DS in Aug and wk solo in Nov.

Well our first trip was in Nov but it is looking like the Mouse will be getting the majority of my money for oh say the next 40 years or so. We make other small trips but within driving distance of our home. Most of those are with friends of ours. Like we are planning a long weekend trip in September to San Antonio probably will hit Sea World and some other big attraction or spend a day floating down the river. We go to the lake and other small things but nothing big.

When we do WDW it is usually our big trip. We live at the beach, so a beach vacation is not a draw for us. We usually do 2-4 more mini (long weekends) vacations on top of the big one. They are within driving distance.

I'm with the poster who said to go on as many vacations as you can afford.
We love Disney, but in recent years we haven't gone for an entire week.
Maybe just 4-5 days. Then we try to do a trip to the beach for several
days and a trip to NYC for two nights to see some shows. As you all know,
it's about the planning and researching and getting good deals, etc. It never
hurts to have friends to stay with or who have condos you can rent cheaply.
All work and no play makes us DULL, DULL, DULL!

We have been living in Alaska for several years, so the cost to get to FL for a WDW vacation has been pretty expensive & our only trip. We usually go every October. We have recently moved to Oregon & will continue taking our annual trip in October but now plan on taking a long weekend trip to Disneyland and then a couple trips here & there to visit family in Idaho & at the beach.

I would prefer to go to Disney all the time and not anywhere else but that is me... My husband on the other hand would love to break it up and go to other destinations.
If you really want to go to the beach and Disney, why not check out Disneys Vero Beach... you get the bost of both worlds... and if that doesnt do it for you and you just want to stay at Disney, book a resort like CBR. The hotel is set up just like a beachy resort....

We aren't yet frequent travelers to WDW, but yeah, it's pretty much the only destination on our vacation schedule for the foreseeable future. We'll take a weekend trip to other destinations, and we'll definitely be visiting out-of-state relatives from time to time, but as far as true vacations go, WDW is it.

Well, okay, we hope to go to DLR next year, too. But that's "all in the family," right?
