We are going up the Pacific Coast Highway and will stop in San Fran before heading over to Yosemite. We have about 1/2 day when we arrive (evening time) and the next day (til about 2pm).

Thought about doing a tour of San Fran to see the Lombard Street, Painted Ladies, Golden Gate Bridge, etc. ..........but would we be able to leave our car parked in the hotel parking lot since technically we check out that day? Or do you think we can manuever traffic and find all the sites within a reasonable amount of time?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check with the hotel. They may charge you for the extra time but imo it would be worth it.
The other option would be to park in a public lot near the tour bus pickup point.
We took a hop on/off tour that went across the GGBridge.I think it takes about 2 hours if you stay on it.It covered all the main sights.

have you considered doing you own driving tour on the way out of town?

That was the question! If it is better to do it on our own and not have to worry about finding where we are going and traffic or to let someone else worry about it.

Ooops! Brain function stopped at the parking question.

We did a self tour - most of 49 mile drive. A decent map, a little advance planning and you'll be set. If it's a nice day, add Twin Peaks to your shorter route.

If you do a self tour just remember the driver isn't going to get to view much so if possible split the driving.I speak from personal experience;)
