To all the past Disney Brides... what was the one thing you splurged on and you were glad that you did, and what was the one thing you wish you would have saved the money on? I'm getting married next may 2006 and I am having about 50 guest there and then we are coming back and having just a reception here in Canada with about 250 people. So we don't want to spend an arm and a leg in Florida. Especially considering the exchange rate and all. So just looking for some advice on what to definetly spend my money on! Thank you to everyone in advance!

Hmm I guess I splurged on the characters - Paul and I had booked Minnie and Mickey and then I surprised him with Chip and Dale.

In hindsight I think I would have done without the punch as not much of it got drunk at a midday cocktail hour and I think I would saved more money just having a hosted bar rather than wine on the tables plus hosted bar.

Hi there,

I am also from Canada and we got married in Disney in December 2002. I can understand about the exchange rate...we were paying our fees when they were anywhere from 1.52-1.59 so having a wedding there now would be much better for us :)

What was I glad we splurged on...the MK wedding photo shoot. I really wanted it and don't regret it a bit. What was not needed...well, our Illuminations party got rained out so that was a bummer but that was something I really wanted so if the weather had been better, it would have been amazing.

We didn't go overboard on frills for our wedding. It was a small custom and we did a reception (actually 2 of them) back here at the respective parents hometowns.

If I had to have cut back on something, we splurged on the dessert party in that I really wanted fondue and fruit/desserts. Well, everyone was so full from dinner that 99% of that food went to waste...very sad!

I think I would have also skipped on the bouquets from Disney and made my own (I got a silk one from them for me as our MK photo shoot was 6 days after our wedding). I got real flowers for my bridesmaids and they would have liked to have kept them so I wish I would have made them silk/dried flowers.

Smiles,
Shillee

Our splurge was the Illuminations Dessert Party after the wedding. Even with the rainstorm we had it was well worth the money.

The thing I would have saved money on....I probably would have cut out the champagne for the toast and had people just toast with whatever drink they had in their hands. Most people didn't drink all the champagne anyway!

We splurged on the room...GF Lagoon view for a week. I wish we had've splurged on Cinderella's carriage.

Our splurge was the Illuminations pre-reception. We are SO glad we did that! It was truly a memorable experience, and it was one of the few times that we got a chance to sit back and enjoy ourselves and take it all in.

I wish I had only worn tennis shoes. I had a pair of white Keds tennis shoes that my mom’s friend had painted for me with a Mickey head, wedding bells, and our names and wedding date on them. I just wore those for the reception, and I wore regular bridal dress shoes for the ceremony. I was worried my tennis shoes would show when I walked down the aisle, so I wore the dress shoes. Looking back on it, my gown was long enough that my tennis shoes wouldn’t have shown. I could’ve saved the money on the formal shoes for sure.

I splurged on Cinderella's carriage and the MK photo shoot. I don't regret it at all!!

We splurged on the MK shoot and I am so glad we did. The only thing I might have changed was the WISHES cruise, it was so cold and no one ate or drank anything that we had on board.
