To split or not to split...

Currently booked 8 nights at CBR in a pirate room. DH, me, DS6 and DD2.

Thought of possibly upgrading our last couple of nights to CR or Poly, but would most likely have to cut a night and it would most likely still be a bit more than our current package since only part would have the old summer discounted rate...

Thoughts? Would you split or not? What are some tips to getting the best deal when you're booking both as packages...?

We love both the CR and Poly and we LOVE to do split stays. We have been able to stay at most of the resorts this way and get a feel for all of them. I would choose Poly over CR (even though BLT at CR is our most favorite). Poly with kids is just alot of fun with the volcano pool and the boat ride/mono ride to MK.

Just make sure you do the deluxe part at the end of the trip. There is quite a difference in size and it is hard going from bigger to smaller room.

Have fun!

I've done split stays almost every year since 2006, so I clearly have no issues with the idea. That said, I wouldn't cut an 8 night stay short in order to do it. I'd rather have more time at WDW:).

If you decide to do it, I agree with the PP that booking the deluxe at the end is the way to go. You may also be able to book a package at the start that includes park tickets that cover your whole stay, then book a room only for the end. I seem to recall that you can do that, but I never book packages so you'll have to check. It would be cheaper that way than booking two separate packages.

If DH wasn't so in favor of the dining plan, this would make it even easier (and cheaper!) :-)

I was trying to get my Dh to do a split between the poly and BC but he vetoed it. I have done them twice in the past but prior to kids.

To him, he doesn't want to do it because it will make the trip seem shorter. We are going for 10 days and I was thinking 3 nights at the BC and the rest at the poly.

We don't do the dining plan so that isn't a problem.

Priced out a split stay - 4 nights CBR and 3 nights CR...is it bad if I don't tell DH until we get there?? :-)

I would suggest not booking two packages. The usual method is to book the tickets on the first segment for the entire stay. So for example you are staying 5 nites at X and 3 nites at Y, then you book 8 day tickets with hotel X to make the package. Then your Y booking is room only.

If you insist on the DDP, you will have to buy a separate set of tickets for Y but you can save them for a later trip. We usually do DDP on the first segment and then CLub level for the room only portion.

I'm also deciding if I want to split my stay. I'm going to be at WDW for 9nights, beginning Sept 1. Here are the splits I'm considering:
AKL 4 nights/WL 5 nights
WL 4 nights/BW Villas 5 nights
POP 4 nights/WL 5 nights

As you can see, I really want Wilderness for part of the stay. Is it worth it to pay extra for the Villas at either WL or BW?

As you can see from my signature line, we love split stays.

But we frequently take vacations outside of WDW where we're constantly on the move and rarely unpack our suitcases (in a former life, I did a lot of long distance backpacking where I was setting up and taking down camp every day - so changing resorts every 2-4 days seems like nothing to me).

I wouldn't do a split stay with two kids that young. They will just be settling in, getting used to their temporary home and relaxing a bit. To uproot the family would be stressful. A trip with young kids is stressful enough without adding to it. But that is just what I would do. :)

We were at WL with grand kids age 3 and 5 and it was really nice to stay in one place the whole time.

Don't split Your kids are young and it will be a hassle. They may not want to switch. Also save the money.
