Here's the deal. This is probably gonna be a once-in-a-lifetime trip to WDW for my son (7) and I. We'll be going from October 28th-November 11th. :goodvibes I know we want to stay at POFQ for sure. However, we're from Hawaii and the airfare prices have got me wondering if a split stay would be an option for us to cut costs.

I was wondering what your thoughts are on a split stay between a Mod and a Value. I'd probably do the Value resort for the first week and change to POFQ for the last week.

Son and I are used to living out of a suitcase, so I don't anticipate having problems changing rooms in the middle of our stay. I guess my issue is with staying at a value. I'd need to add the cost of a fridge for medications and I'm just really unsure if we'd like the larger-than-life themes of the values. If my numbers are correct, I'd save around $500 with the split stay.

Any insights? And which value would you recommend?

TIA :flower3:

My kids love doing split stays. We usually do a deluxe and value. It doesn't bother any of us and isn't hard to do. I agree with starting with a value and ending at the mod. I would recommend Pop--the buses are great there.

Thank you so much for the response. I'm just trying to figure out if the $500 savings is worth any dissappointment I might feel in staying at a value. I know I'm really the only one that can make that decision, but hearing others' exeriences really helps me.

And I don't wanna come off as being a snob or anything like that. My son has ASD and crowds and noise isn't really his thing. So I'm a little concerned about the values.

Anyways, I appreciate hearing from you. :)

Anyone else?

We also love split stays. It's like getting two vacations in one. :thumbsup2

I would do the value first, then the moderate. Pop Century is a really fun value resort. I think you would like it there. Enjoy! :goodvibes

That makes 2 votes for Pop! My TA is gonna be going on vacation so I wanted to make a decision tonight on what to do so I can get it booked before she leaves. I appreciate everyone's answers so far!!:yay:

I say go for it! 500 dollars is a lot of money! I think you would be surprised at how nice a Value resort is. I also believe they will not charge you for a medication fridge. I could be wrong on that, but I believe that they don't.

Take a look at the POP FAQ page, http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1629396
page 1 gives a lot of great information about the resort.

Also, check out the All Star Music FAQ page. Some say it is the "quietest" of the Values. I don't know if I agree with that or not, but it is worth checking out all of your options. http://disboards.com/showthread.php?p=20509150

We split often and I'd do it in a sec to save 500.00. Disney makes switching between hotels a breeze. Just let the clerk know at check-in and again the day you move. You're very smart to start value and then mod.
I hope you and your son ahve the trip of a lifetime!!!!!!!

I definitely feel your pain on the airfare costs from Hawaii to Orlando. We are getting married at WDW in October and the airfare prices are ridiculous :scared1: . Also my fiance and I love doing split stays because it makes it seem like two different vacations. I think it is always best to start with the value resort and then end with the moderate or deluxe. Doing it in reverse leaves you open to a possible disappointment. And as long as you don't mind packing up and moving in the middle of your trip, a split stay is a good opportunity to experience two very different Disney resorts. I haven't stayed at any of the value resorts yet, but some of my family stayed at Pop Century and loved it. Good luck in your decisions. :thumbsup2

A big mahalo to all of you for your advice and experience. I've decided to go for the split stay and request Pop for the first week and POFQ for the second. All of those great links provided were very helpful, as well. :worship:

Island Mouse, Congrats on your upcoming nuptials!!!! We'll be there at the end of October and we're looking at airfares in the $750 range/pp. I can't seem to get it cheaper than that, so we're gonna hold off on booking for a few more weeks to see what happens. I hope you have a magical wedding and honeymoon!!! :wizard:

We're so excited to be seeing a different side of the Mouse!!! :cheer2:

Great decision!

Splitting is not big deal, especially if you're there that long. You might just be ready for a change of scenery, and starting at a value, then "moving up" will feel pretty special!

Have you booked? ASMo is pretty cool for kids too!

Best wishes for the trip of a lifetime!

Thanks for the congrats. We just bought tickets last week for some of the wedding party and paid about $730. We had hopes of getting them for less than $700, but didn't want to wait too long and pay $800. I just checked today and the same tickets we got last week are over $760 now. In the last few weeks I have been checking and there were a few 2-stop flights for under $700. Keep looking and hopefully you can find the right price.

I would also suggest requesting a POP room away from the pools like 70's facing the lake. You may have to walk a little further to the bus or food court but it is on the backside of the resort and will be quieter and seem less crowded.

Just wanted to add that you can request a fridge for medical purposes at a value resort and there is not an extra charge. Or at least that is what they told me for our upcomng December trip (DH and I are diabetic).
