To soon to talk turkey?

I use a turkey bag.....the best invention since the oven. (IMHO)
Me too!

Today we picked up our free turkey from Shop Rite. My sister and we bought the $400 worth of food to get it free.

I follow the recipe in Thanksgiving 101 by Rick Roger with softened butter on the skin and onion and lemon in the cavity- have brined in the past but don’t think it is worth the mess and effort

I have found the best way to handle turkey preparation is to let my mother in-law do it. From what I hear, she already has a plan in place. :rotfl2:

Separated into parts is better. Different parts can be removed as they’re done, before they dry out.

I’ve decided I really don’t want the hassle of a whole turkey this year. It might only be my husband and I. So I’m just going to do a turkey breast in the crockpot with gravy. Nice and easy.

I've decided on just a turkey breast this year too. Our usual guests aren't coming, my dd might not be able to be here either, and my one ds will be working until 5PM. I was even thinking about not even cooking a traditional Thanksgiving dinner but decided I will, pretty much for the sides and fixings.
I may have to try the breast in the crockpot, I've never cooked one before and I'm worried about drying it out if I do it in the oven.

We earned our free ShopRite turkey breast last week by combining our and stepdaughter's purchases onto her card.

Now we're working on a free ham to save for Christmas using our card. It might be a close call, but we should make it. If necessary, I'll buy extra jumbo packs of paper towels, toilet paper, or big bags of dog food.

I normally get a turkey breast and rub inside, out, and under the skin with butter. I stuff it with lemons and under the skin too with chopped italian parsley, rosemary, oregano, minced garlic, & extra virgin olive oil mix. Bake on high heat of 425 for 20 minutes, then lower to 375 until done. If it's 5-6 lbs it's normally 2.5 hours until done.

This year with food inflation, turkey shortage, DH has to work overnights on Thanksgiving, etc. We decided to order takeout from Famous Dave's BBQ on Thanksgiving Eve. Less time, hassle, and plus won't have a ton of leftover food waste after our normal traditional Thanksgiving meal that I always feel guilty tossing.

Brined, stuffed and roasted in the oven.

*best turkey - taste wise, it was so juicy!- was the turkey we had the year the youngest came home from the Army on Thanksgiving day! Against my better judgement I put the turkey in the oven and then we left to drive a bit over a hour to the airport. Waited for him to arrive, and then after greeting him and getting his bags we headed home. All told gone about 4 hours - all of which I was worried I'd come home to a fouled up turkey or be a story on the evening news about not leaving a turkey to cook unattended and burning your house down.....damn if that wasn't the best turkey I've ever made. Never been able to replicate it!
