So we have DVC points. Dec use year. We have loved having them.... but we just bought a camper. So all of our future trips to WDW will be camp trips. I have tossed and turned about this and we are going to use them this one time for camping but i KNOW its not the best use of them. Should we sell?
The kids are 9 and 2.5. Help!

ALL input and opinions are welcome. I'm torn.

I might keep them and maybe rent them out for a year just to make sure the camper works out. We tried the camper thing and the novelty faded and we decided hotel trips were better.

As a camper and a DVC owner.....NO....I wouldn't sell. We love camping...but Disney is not the place where we want to camp. (granted....I'm not towing my camper to Disney from NJ). Camping is fun, but when I'm in Disney, I love my resort. I know a few people that camp at Fort Wilderness and love it, but it's not for me.

As far as the sell...I agree with the PP....Rent your points out. Use David's if you don't want the hassle. I'm not sure if you financed or whatever. For me? Ours is paid off, so if I wasn't using it, I'd rent and still bring in a little above points cost (purchase plus dues per point). Then I could pay for my camping trips with that. If you like camping better.....by all means sell if you want to dump it.....but it could wear off, or you might find you like to do both

I agree with the above sentiments. I wouldn't sell and would see how it goes. Whether you want to sell in the future depends on how things are working. The one situation where I would sell is if you'd really prefer something else anyway, esp if you have a higher end or easier to sell option such as a smaller contract. Worst case scenarios are you rent them for a couple of years then sell or you sell and buy back in a couple of years.

We are serious campers as well as three contract DVC owners. I would hold on to your DVC points. We love to do both! We live in Colorado and have pulled our trailer to WDW twice. It really isn't that bad of a deal with the points, not the best, but we spent two weeks at Ft Wilderness for only 160 points and there is no extra fees like exchanging into other Disney collection resorts. We typically spend two weeks In the trailer each year, almost always at the Grand Tetons, and then use our points at DVC resorts. We love both types of vacations and couldn't imagine giving up either of them!

We are campers and DVC owners since 2005. I personally would not sell. If I were you, I would do as suggested above - rent out your points for a year or two to make sure you really do not want DVC anymore. If after that time you realize you don't miss DVC and want to sell, then go for it.

I also think a factor in my decision would be whether or not my contract was purchased resale and how much I paid. For instance, my first contract was 200 pts @ SSR and purchased direct back in 2005 for $83pp. I purchased 200 more points on the resale market a few years ago at same resort and use year for $50pp. Based on what I paid and the amount I used them so far, if I had to sell I would not lose my shirt selling on the after market.

With that being said, if I shelled out $100+ dollars per points for a contract direct from DVC and knew I would get significantly less than that on resale, I might just rent my points forever :)

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do!

Yes, hang on them for a while, rent them out and assess after you have been camping a few times to determine if DVC is not for you any more.

I also am a DVC member and I also have a camper and you can always do both together or separate . I however would not ever want to camp at fort wilderness, camp sites are to close together and if you got a really big camper may have a hard time getting it into a space .I would suggest that you tour this camp ground if you have not already just to make sure .

Thanks yall, I didnt even think about renting them out until yall brought it up! Looks like thats what i'm doing. I did consider that I have had numerous trips to WDW with just me and my kids (without husband) and for those trips, resort is the ONLY way to go ;) thanks again!
