To rent a car or not to rent a car...

... that is truly the question...

So, we are going to be at POR in October. We usually stay at WL but can't afford it this year. :sad2: We love POR but HATE the busses from there to the parks. We were thinking of renting a car and will have a Diamond Parking pass from AAA. Do you still have to pay to park at the parks? If so, how much is it and do you use the busses or swear by a rental car.

Thanks so much! :)

Disney resort guests do not have to pay parking fees at the parks.

We rent a car. We'll take a bus once in a while but we generally just go to parks we can access by foot, boat or monorail.

What is the best rental car company to go through? Do you pick up at the airport or at the Disney Car Care Center? Thanks!

I like the buses. How many days? I miss the wow transportation when we go with our car.

We used WDW transportation for all of our trips except this last one. We wanted to go to Universal so figuring in the cost of getting from the airport to Universal and then to Disney ended up being the same as having a car the whole time.
Anyway... we LOVED having a car. Disney transportation has never bothered us and we've generally found it acceptable. But with the exception of the Magic Kingdom, getting everywhere else was much faster and easier. As long as we can find a reasonable price we'll continue to get a car.
Find the dedicated thread for the month you want to go on this board (generally there is one) and you can see the rates everyone else is getting and discuss the codes to use. We were very happy with our Alamo rate but I am not adverse to trying one of the other companies if it's lower.
We picked up and dropped off at MCO and the entire process was very easy.

I'm sure you'll get answers on both sides of the issue here, if past threads are any indication.

Those that use the bus are happy to let somebody else to the driving. Those who prefer a car enjoy the convenience. If you do decide to get a car, only the MK is a little inconvenient as compared to the bus.
