To pantyhose or not to pantyhose? Help!

I'm happy to hear they are starting to be "acceptable" again. I'm no spring chicken.....and I have white, pasty, chubby legs to prove it. I have been avoiding dresses for the most part since the "no hose" trend started.

I have a wedding next month though & I'll be glad to put on some nice sheer hose (of course, I'll be glad to take them off too - they're not exactly fun to wear.....but I will sacrifice for vanity). :lmao:

This was talked about a few weeks ago, and it was determined that pantyhose are out. Bare legs are in. :)

Who said that? :confused3 They are way behind the times.

Kate Middleton, the new Duchess of Cambridge, has made pantyhose in style again. her hose tend to have a slight shimmer, like the pair with the grey dress. Someone here said that Kate's pantyhose cost about $60 a pair. :faint:

Personally, unless your legs are tanned and polished wear some sort of hose.Nothing looks worse than bare skin with all its imperfections. I know pantyhose are out but really I went to a wedding recently where the mother of the bride wore no stockings and frankly all I could think of was dried up chicken legs. Sorry. Just like strapless (don't get me started on that one) unless one has the body for it don't wear it. No one wants to see it.

OT That goes for guys without shirts too. My pet peeve is this really fat hairy guys walking around with no shirt. WTH way to gross me out. There ought to be a law!:rotfl:

I agree.

I never like pantyhose. I loathed them. I used to take them off in the car as soon as I was done with work or whatever event I went to. Awful. Shudder.
I wished for the day those things would go out of style.

I never thought I'd say this, but most of the time for a "dressy" occasion hose does look better than bare legs. JMHO.

Wear them if you want! If it'll make you feel more comfortable, go for it!

I don't wear pantyhose during the warmer months, but I much prefer skirts and dresses over pants when I dress up. So during the colder months, I wear dark tights. I don't do true pantyhose in the winter because I don't think they offer as much warmth as a thicker tight.

Anyway, who cares if you wear pantyhose or not?

I agree. A dressy outfit without hose looks like someone didn't finish dressing. For dressy occasions, it's all out the details.

It's not nice to post these leg pics when people are worried about ghosty-white, not perfectly toned legs. Anybody ready for petticoats & hoopskirts to make a come-back?

For those who hate pantyhose, you probably hate the horrible binding panels or whatever they call them. Thigh high stockings will set you free.

Sorry, my bad. Very insensitive of me. :lmao:

YES! I had the thigh highs. :thumbsup2

Except now, I will need the super-duper, hold everything in, so you can't breathe, control top pantyhose.

Perhaps try the Spanx hosiery one stop hold it all in until you turn blue accessory

Well, if you don't want anyone to recognize you, then I would definitely suggest pantyhose.

I was just at a fancy wedding, and few wore pantyhose. I hate wearing them, but I also hate the way my white veiny legs looks without them. I got around the issue with my longish skirt.

I can't imagine going bare legged in winter though, and if there's anything I hate more than pantyhose, it's tights. The crotch always ends up around my knees. I will not do tights, no matter how fashionable they might be.

And pantyhose with no toes? I don't think so. How weird would that feel?

OP, you should do what makes you feel the most comfortable.

Oh, gawd, no. SO uncomfortable. To me, anyway. I'd rather have a waistband than two thigh bands. If you don't like "binding panels," don't buy control top pantyhose.

I don't get how the pantyhose with no toes work? Wouldn't they end up riding up by the ankles, the way the crotch ends up by the knees? :confused3

No, :lmao: there is a little loop that slips over one toe kind of like the fingerless gloves that cover the back of the hands. The toes remain hoseless but the legs are hosed. I thought they would feel/look weird but they didn't and my bare toes peeped out of my shoes while my hosed legs looked smooth and nice.

Thanks for the explanation. I thought women had to take off their sandal and yank on the hose to pull them back over the foot, the way we always had to discretely try to pull the crotch back up. :headache:

I went to a private school where pantyhose and dresses were mandatory for Jr/Sr high. The crotch trick we learned and one I used with DD and tights was to put a pair of panties over the hose, voila....no more falling crotch.
Obviously don't do this with something tight/form fitting or the horror of panty lines will be our next thread but under a lined garmet or with a slip no worries

Any of you ladies wish me to give you my opinion of what youre not wearing, just let me know......

Ironic Humor. As I type this, the add is Tights, Leggings, Dancewear and More.

Amen! I agree with you on all counts. If Kate Middleton can banish bare legs with dresses and the strapless wedding gown, then she's my new personal hero and bless her!

I've never stopped wearing panty hose and I won't. I recently went to my 30 year hs reunion and sat in the front row for a photo--I didn't notice it at the time but the photo really showed off all those middle aged imperfections in bare legs. I'm glad I was wearing pantyhose.

Try traditional stockings that require a garter belt. No rubber/lace band to contend with. Just smooth silky goodness!!!

Kate Middleton isn't a fashion pioneer, she is just following the long standing dress code. You are only hearing about it now as there is a young royal out and about. Anyone who is a royal, or attends royal functions, must adhere to the dress code which requires pantyhose and closed toe shoes.
