To Laptop or not to Laptop ...

I took mine on my last trip (2 weeks) and ended up not using it.. I decided it wasn't worth the 9.95 to do it. As far as transfering the pic's. I had a total of 4- 1 gig memory cards with me so I didn't have to worry about transfering the pics. My husband went home after 5 days of the trip, so I sent the lap-top home with him. The first part of my stay, 2 nights, were at the Comfort Inn on Palm Parkway. They had free service if you sat in their lobby. My DD used the computer there so she could talk to her friends. Then for the remaining 12 nights at Disney (that is when my DH came up) we did not use it and sent it home with DH.. in fact, I didn't even take it out of the car. We transfered it from one car to the other Had it got stolen from the car, it would have been covered under my car insurance, so I wasn't too worried about keeping it in there.

especially dell. For $500-$600, you can get a nice PC. e.g., Dell Latitude D531 14.1 inch 512MB 80GB laptop $599 at www dot dealstudio.com/viewtopic.php?t=26423

We always take our laptop to download the pics we take daily, but I always have my Palm on me and it connects to the www via a national service I already pay for. I don't pay for wifi.

We take ours. The main benefit for us is the ability to save our photos immediately and have a fresh card to use the next day. It is less likely that you will 'lose' your photos. I take a lot though, almost 1,000 during our Feb. trip. :upsidedow

EXACTLY!

That's precisely why we'll bring ours...we can transfer the pics to DVD (our laptop has a DVD burner) each night. Then, the night before we leave, pay for 24 hours of net access, and upload the servers to walmart.com, and have the prints ready for us when we get home.

Are you sure about this? I thought personal property is usually only covered under a Homeowners/Renters insurance policy. We are pretty careful about not leaving anything in our car just for that reason as we don't want anything stolen that would turn into a claim on our homeowners policy.

I don't plan to take mine. I know if I did, I'd feel compelled to check in on work in the evenings, and I'm not completely comfortable leaving my laptop in a hotel room all day. We picked up a "photobank" - a small, portable hard drive with a camera card reader and a small LCD screen - for dumping the camera cards to at the end of the day, and I think that's all I'll need.

I don't like to take laptop, but DW does.. I am too cheap to pay $9.95/day, but she pays for 1 day, and checks email, does any online banking, etc, to make sure she is not late on any payments....

But as far as me using it.. nah!! I would rather be at the parks, a lot of my day at work is using laptops, I want to stay away from one on vacation!!!

I keep a free "Juno" account open all the time. Then, when I'm out of town, the system can dial their 800 number to find local dial-up numbers. I choose a couple/few numbers, and let my computer connect through dial-up. Yes - it's slow, and yes- I only get 10 hours a month . . . but, it's free, and I rarely need 10 hours to check e-mail and local info real quick. ;)

I take my laptop and download my digital pictures and videos. I took over 7000 pictures last year during our two week trip. DS now has a nice digital camera now too. I suspect we will be taking tons of pictures this year and I love that I can download them nightly.

that is the question ... :)

Hi all ... I've never brought a laptop to WDW ... never owned one before!
Anyway, I would love any and all opinions ... I would use it maybe for movies on the plane (the kids anyway). I thought it might be neat to access these boards (of course!) and maybe Deb Wills (menus, etc.).
Any thoughts? Is it more of a hassle than it's worth? :confused3
I know there is a per diem fee in the room (we'll be at OKW).

Well ... thanks in advance ...

Dave

We have a laptop but never take it with us to much hassle and we would never use it. I have my ipod with me in the car so if I really really needed to transfer pics to something I can use that I bought the adapter for it so I can hook the camera up and transfer pics. As for accessing things while you are there why bother you are on holidays no need for teh internet etc that just ties you to your room when you could be out exploring even if it just around the resort. For the menus etc just print them off and stick them in your luggage before you leave then you have them with you while you are on your trip.
