We leave in 18 days (!!!!) for a week at WDW. As I'm starting to set things aside to pack, I'm wondering if lanyards are useful? I know some people use them for pins, and although we aren't collectors (yet) I'm wondering if they are still a good idea for us? It's me, DH, DS9, DS7, DD5. Thanks!

If you're going to participate in any of the EMH hours, you have to use room keys now instead of braceletts. You might consider putting your room key on a lanyard, just so it's convenient to get to.

you buy starter sets of pins ON a lanyard if you decide youwant to do that...my kids love it ages 13 and 9...they only use the lanyards for their pins - nice to have them our and around their neck when they want to make a trade - kind of like wearing a necklace for "decoration" - makes them feel like they are in disney...can be expensice for 3 kids - starter setw with a lanyard I think are around $20, but you get 4-5 pins and can trade them for anything

I used my lanyard primarily to hold all our key cards (very handy when the cards are needed!) and my boys used their lanyards for pins.

Have a great time! :goodvibes

The lanyards are only helpful if you plan on wearing them. You can buy non-Disney lanyards that have small pockets at the end that can hold credit cards, room cards, fastpasses and other stuff you'll be carrying around.

Ideally, a lanyard could be the only thing you bring with you to the park. If you're already bringing a purse, stroller, or backpack, I don't think a lanyard will save you any time. It really depends how light you're willing to travel.

My DH wore the Lanyard & held both our cards. We do not collect pins and it was nice not to have to go digging every time we needed to get it out.

I bought my parents two lanyards and two plastic holders (one with Sorcerer Mickey and one with Tinkerbell) for their room keys and park tickets. I bought these items from Downtown Disney before I returned to Chicago, and they cost $12 for each set (lanyard+ticket holder). These items will last for at least a few trips, and it is very convenient for the ticket checks, especially during EMH, so we think it is worthwhile.

(Prices were the same in the parks and the resort, but I had a Passholder discount at the World of Disney.)

You can buy non-Disney lanyards at some sporting goods stores.

Respectfully, I disagree :flower3:

I always had my Heys travelmate bag with me, but having the KTTW cards and fastpasses in the holder on my lanyard saved me time and stress. Having the cards/passes handy was wonderful!

You can buy Disney lanyards cheap on disneyshopping.com or ebay. There is a stitch lanyard on disney shopping now for $3 that my daughter has and another for $10 that comes with a pin. I won't go back without a lanyard for myself now to hold all of our KTTW cards because of needing them for EMH. It is very expensive to buy the lanyards, pins and lanyards with pins when you get there. If you think they might want to collect, start on disney shopping and you get free shipping on pins and access. on Mondays, and a discount with a disney visa.:thumbsup2

You can also buy plain lanyards at walmart, claires and the dollar store. I think you would benefit from having one at least one.:)

I'd definitely get a lanyard. I wasn't sure where to keep mine during EMH and was afraid it would fall out of my pocket. Although, beware...you might just get sucked into pin trading!

Lanyard is the way to go. I was worried that with pins on it might become uncomfortable but even in the July heat it was fine. Very handy for holding my AP, room key etc and it is great if you are into pin trading. On my last day I was wearing three lanyards all full of pins. Talk about BLING:lmao:

If you do pin trading make sure you get some locking pin backs. My daugther bought them herself after she lost two really good pins at WDW and Dollywood. She got hers on ebay(there are not the kind with the key.) You just pull on the back and they work Great!:thumbsup2

We like using the lanyards, yes Disney ones, for our room/park cards and fastpasses. We did add the little plastic envelope to hang from the bottom.
During the day we do have a bag but still use the lanyard it is so easy to get the card out for fastpasses or buying something. We tuck it under our shirt for the wilder rides.
In the evening we just wear the lanyard so no bag check.

Go to Ebay and buy one, much cheaper and there are tons to choose from, lots of disney ones or you can get plain ones too. If you have a favorite sport team go to your local sporting goods store and you can probably find a lanyard there for under $5.

Didn't read the whole thread so forgive me if this was already said....
If you DO use a lanyard for pins, be sure to invest in some good "backs" for your pins so you won't lose any. It is terrible to "love" a pin and then lose it!
Have a great trip! I bought FANTASTIC locking backs on ebay.

We've been using our lanyards since we won the YOAMD lanyards and free pins  We collect them now too! Wish we had started the lanyard thing many years ago!

Thanks everybody for the great responses. I wish I could be one of those folks that didn't have to carry a backpack or purse, but I really like the idea of having my key and passes handy! Less digging through all the kid stuff!

My daughter was given 3 pins by CMs while we were there last week and then, of course, wanted to pin trade. The my ds was given 2 by CMs. I'd already brought lanyards from home. I use them for ID for the kids with our names and cell number, in case they get lost.
