OK!:thumbsup2

;) Hint taken;) :goodvibes

I have a funny story re smarties.

The blue ones are a fairly recent addition. There was some concern rumour over the colourings used. I used to tell kids that they had to leave the blue ones in the tube (they come in a little tube like the insert of a toilet roll) and not eat them. I used to tell Ellis and his friends to leave them for the Smartie fairy so she would be kind enough to bring another tube soon.:rotfl2: ....If you havent already guessed..... I was (and still am) the Smartie fairy;) :rotfl2:

They believed me for months:rotfl2:

It was only when my friend told her son that there was no such thing as a Smartie fairy that they found out it was me:rotfl2:

She was at home and noticed her son picking out the blue ones and putting them back in the tube that she asked what he was doing:rotfl2:

She's a fool.. if she'd have been cleverer she too could have become a Smartie fairy;)

That is brilliant!! :worship: A women after my own heart.

Karen, too funny about the Smarties Fairy!! :lmao: You are a smartie pants :rolleyes1

Everyone always likes the blue ones!!! They always go first :rotfl2:

Actually, I give Kira Dark Chocolate M & M's when I change her diaper (#2) because she is bad at laying still and and they are a good distraction...she always asks for the blue ones

Our Smarties come in a re-sealable box :thumbsup2

Blue was the last color they added for M&Ms too. Guess it took them awhile to find blue coloring that wasn't fatal :faint:

I REALLY like the resealable box idea. Only the mini-M&M's come in a re-closable plastic tube. I belong to a professional group where one of the officers always gives you a tube of mini-M&Ms if you ask a good question at one of his lectures! I ALWAYS come prepared :thumbsup2

So does that mean vegetarians buy them and then throw out the red ones or did they save them for Karen as well? :rotfl2:

Have they changed the red dye to something more animal friendly?

I have a feeling that Vegetarians didn't know, but they have now changed the dye.

I don't know if you have seen this, but they have a website where you can order custom made M&Ms, with your own message printed on them! I know some people who did this for wedding favors and the were a big hit! Now they can even put pictures on them!

Holy Moly!!! They even have Disney ones now!!! http://www.mymms.com/Disney/Selling_page.asp

Hiya Everybody! :wave2:

So here we were on our last night in WDW :sad1: . But the good news was that we had reservations at my favorite Disney restaurant, The Flying Fish Cafe! :yay: FFC is my favorite restaurant not for the view (Narcoossees, California Grill and Artist's Point for the view) and not for the ambiance (once again Narcoossee's, Victoria & Albert's and Citrico's for ambiance) but for the two most important things: FOOD & SERVICE! I have NEVER had a bad meal at FFC, but I have actually had some extraordinary meals there. The chef seems to be especially daring and they have some unusual dishes right along side of traditional ones. Our waiter (we'll get to him in a minute) explained to us that the Executive Chef actually gives the lower ranking chefs a chance to create a dish that will be included on the menu. We had one of these lower-ranking chef's desserts, but more on that later (hey, we haven't even had a cocktail yet!).

We took the car over to The BoardWalk, since it was still raining pretty hard and it's such a pain to move between resorts on the buses, since you have to go to one of the parks or to DTD to get another bus! We were able to walk through the hotel (ahhhhh, don'tcha just LOVE The BoardWalk?) and only had to step out in the rain for a few feet to make it into the restaurant. We checked in and made our usual request: WE WANT CHRIS! And we are willing to wait for him! Now this only works if Chris is working that night and lucky for us, he was! We ended up getting a bonus because Russ, our second favorite Disney waiter was sharing tables with Chris! :yay:. Here's Chris and Russ:

DSCN1275.jpg

Now Frank and I met Chris several years ago at the FFC and we were impressed not only with the service he provided, but his knowledge of the menu (he LOVES to talk about the menu) and his ability to chat and be friendly and still give all of his tables great service! :thumbsup2 We noticed that he had a special pin, that we had never seen before (or since!), on his name tag and we asked him what it signified. He got kind of choked up when he told us that that pin was awarded, by the other Disney servers, to the best servers on property. So it was a peer award, which made it very special. And if you are ever lucky enough to have Chris wait on you, you will see why! If you look closely at the picture above, you will see Chris' special pin on his name tag. We also met Russ several years ago and he is also a very fine waiter and very funny! He works with Chris a lot - they are assigned the best section of the dining room and the often work big tables together :thumbsup2

A little background: The Flying Fish Cafe is located on the boardwalk, at The BoardWalk. You can see the neon sign flashing as you ride the boats between Epcot and MGM. The decor is based on Coney Island and there is a giant ferris wheel at the back of the restaurant. I thought the chandeliers were kind of interesting:

DSCN1264.jpg

So Frank and I settled in a most excellent table (Chris' tables are always in the best location:thumbsup2), located in the back room, off the main dining room, which resembles a big circus tent:

DSCN1263.jpg

Cocktails first, of course! Frank ordered a Flying Twister: Champagne, Southern Comfort and Peach Schnapps. Obviously, I was driving home!

DSCN1266.jpg

Wow, that drink looks huge!!!!

I asked for something non-alcoholic and fruity and the bartender whipped up a very nice fruit punch for me!

We were served some very yummy warm bread and then this arrived:
DSCN1268.jpg

Chris always sends us ‘a little something’ as a starter and this was the latest: A poached quail egg on crostini, with caviar and bernaise! (Wow, I can just picture Mikey barfing about now!) I did what I did with all things like this: I popped it my mouth and hoped for the best. It was actually very tasty.

We decided to split a caesar salad, because we know that their salads are HUGICAL! If you ask the waiter, they will split it for you in the kitchen, which prevents a potentially messy situation from taking place. They put a big slice of baked parmesan cheese on top and the croutons BIG! Unfortunately, I got so excited when they brought the salad, I forgot to take a picture until I had already dug in, so imagine that everything is neat and there is a big slice of baked parmesan cheese on top, instead of all mushed around:

DSCN1269.jpg

We were then served Guava Sorbet, in very pretty glasses, to cleanse our palates before the entree was served (because you don’t want to have a dirty palate when your entree arrives!)

DSCN1270.jpg

MMMMM, good! Next came the very special entree: Sesame Encrusted Tilapia:

DSCN1271.jpg

Now when I say ‘very special entree’ I’m not exaggerating. The special thing about this tilapia is that it was actually grown/spawned/born? at The Land!!! Yes, indeedy, this tilapia once swam around in The Land pavilion at Epcot! How cool is that! Disney is actually supplying their own fish to some of the restaurants on property!

If you ask Frank, I believe he will tell you that this was the most delicious thing he had ever eaten at FFC EVER! (And he’s eaten there a lot – more than me, at least.) Maybe even in his WHOLE LIFE (ok, so maybe I’m exaggerating). It’s true that it couldn’t have been any fresher, since they only had to haul it over from Epcot. Hmmm, I wonder how they catch them? But I digress. I really liked it too, but not as much as Frank!

Now we were ready for my favorite part of the meal: DESSERT!!! We were ready to try one of the desserts created for the ‘Celebrate’ theme, that was actually created by one of the lower ranking chefs. Look how pretty this is:

DSCN1273.jpg

OK, are you ready? Real Key Lime Pie, with an Oreo crust topped with Vanilla Panna Cotta (not whipped cream) and Lime Zest, with fresh Pineapple sorbet served in a cookie, with chocolate accoutrements! I had the same religious experience with this dessert that Frank had with the tilapia – it was definitely the best dessert I had all week, and I had some pretty fine desserts (hey, you’ve seen them all!). Chris told us that the piece was originally twice the size, but the servers had to tell the chefs to cut back because no one was finishing it – it was too rich! This was definitely a great way to end a fabulous meal!

Holy Capuccino Batman! I can't believe I forgot to include this little beauty in this TR:

DSCN1274.jpg

Unfortunately, left-handed people would have difficulty with this. (Poor Lori, food touching AND a right-handed capuccino cup!)

We paid up and took our leave of Chris & Russ, with hugs all around, until we meet again.

We highly recommend the Flying Fish Cafe! If you go there, make sure to ask for Chris or Russ. And tell them the Hoffmann’s sent you!

Thanks for reading along!

I'll go, ask for Chris and Russ, then order a double religious experience!

Another great update Kathy. Of course, my eyes went straight to the dessert. I have to ask, was that Flying Fish thingy on your Key Lime Pie actually chocolate? I would've eaten that first! :cool1:

If I had only known, I would have skipped the entree and had TWO desserts! You will LOVE Chris & Russ!

Yes, the Flying Fish thingy was, indeed, made out of chocolate (that was part of the 'chocolate accoutrement') and I did, indeed, eat that first. (You know, it's scary how 'in sync' our brains are - maybe we are twins separated at birth? :lmao:) Those stringy things on top of the pineapple sorbet were also chocolate.

I am usually such a chocoholic, but this dessert was REALLY special!

Sounds like it was a fabulous experience :thumbsup2 But where are the pictures of the rain Kathy??? :sad1: :confused3 ;)

My bad, Cass! This was my first trip report and did a very poor job with the photographic documentation. You and Karen are sooo good at that! :thumbsup2 Now the I know that this is my weakness, I will try harder next time. I also have to remember to take pictures of the food before I start eating it! :lmao:

This is the closest I have to a rain picture - you can see it on the railing. Tis was just a good old rainy day and not a thunderstorm:

DSCN1258.jpg

Kathy...looks like Rick and I are gonna try Flying Fish in October based on your trippee. The food looks wonderful.

Kathy,

Great report! I have always wanted to do this but my DS has always been afraid of clowns. :scared1: Too bad he will not be on the cruise with us so that you could provide clownphobia sessions. I know he is a strange person (we will blame it on his Dad) :lmao:

:lmao: :rotfl2:
robins afraid of clowns too.:lmao:
one time i had a bunch of clown stickers and placed them all over the house.
:lmao: on the phone, on the shower handle....:rotfl2:

Unfortunately, they were missing one of the usual performers who does most of the singing and also plays the bodhran (an Irish drum). But we were treated to some excellent fiddling and singing. We were also treated to some incredible step dancing, courtesy of the lovely Danielle (who was wearing a RED dress;) ) she spins around a lot and it's really hard to get a good picture of her:
