Tuesday
Woke up on Monday to a sore left glute (high up) and a sore left arch. Figured I probably pushed it a tad too hard on the 15+3 the day prior, but didn't have any of these issues crop up on Sunday after the run. The issue would remain present for most of the week, but was never a hinderance to the training.
Conditions -

Overcast clouds, Wind 6mph to 8mph
Start: Temp+Dew = 43°F + 39°F; FL - 40°F
End: Temp+Dew = 44°F + 40°F; FL - 40°F
Time to start some heat acclimation training in advance of Princess Weekend. Figured the temps might be toasty for racing in the morning, and nows a good time to try and prepare my body for it. I'm using the tried and true method of overdressing for the conditions, and then wearing a poorly venting jacket to trap everything around my skin. Just trying to create an environment that forces me to sweat more, and maybe thin out my blood a bit as well.
So while it was 40F outside, I dressed like it was 10F. When I finished the easy run I had sweat built up in my jacket that poured out the arm sleeve.
Wednesday
Conditions -

Overcast clouds, Wind 7mph to ?
Start: Temp+Dew = 33°F + 28°F; FL - 26°F
End: Temp+Dew = 32°F + 27°F; FL - 26°F
I looked through the Daniels book to see what he recommended the week prior and week of 10k race week. He had a 3 x 2 miles T workout, a 6 x 4 min I workout, and a 3 x 1 mile T workout leading into the race. This was actually a touch less aggressive than I was going to be, so I decided it was a good idea to follow his workouts. Especially since I was going to do them using HAT as well.
It was 26F outside and I dressed like it was 0F. Since I was so bundled up it didn't make it easy to run fast. I'm never a fan of running fast in leggings. They just feel so restrictive compared to shorts that end above the knee. Probably a psychological thing. This was a tough tough run. The wind was a touch higher than it was for the last T workout. I hit the first split at 6:37 and then gently faded to a 6:41. That's not all that bad, but I'd be lying if I wasn't a littler perturbed. Did the next set after a short 2 min RI. I did the first rep in 6:40, and then ran hard to finish the second rep at 6:48. A bit slower than the first one. Decided that I would play the third rep by ear on whether to cut short based on fading. I was at about 6:52 pace at the 0.25 mile mark, and got it down to 6:49 pace at the 0.75 mile mark. I decided to cut it at 1 mile and pushed really hard for the last 0.25 mile to get it down to 6:45 pace. I was doing 6:10-6:25 pace during that last stretch. So while it felt incredibly hard, I did have more to give. I averaged 6:43 for the 5 miles which is only 6 seconds off goal average despite being bundled up like a helicopter parent's kid on a cold winter day. I wish I was a touch faster, but it's about as I should have expected given the conditions. Wrapped up the run with a cool down and headed home.
Thursday
I think there was quite a bit of snow and ice on the roads. Made the conditions not great for running, so I hit the treadmill. I decided to run without the fan on to try and ramp up the HAT. I probably should have overdressed by more because I didn't sweat as much as I should have. An easy 60 min run altogether.
Friday
Conditions -

Clear sky, Wind 3mph to 7mph
Start: Temp+Dew = 19°F + 10°F; FL - 15°F
End: Temp+Dew = 17°F + 10°F; FL - 15°F
It was 15F outside and I dressed like it was -10F. Another easy day and I sweat buckets. There was still a decent amount of snow/ice on the road as well.
Saturday
Conditions -

Broken clouds, Wind 13mph to ?
Start: Temp+Dew = 37°F + 26°F; FL - 29°F
End: Temp+Dew = 37°F + 26°F; FL - 29°F
The roads were still icy/snow covered in the morning, so I pushed the run to the afternoon. We went and saw Ant Man 3. When I got back home the roads were mostly clear and I decided to try and run fast outdoors. I had planned on doing 6 x 4 min I. I overdressed like it was 10F except that I wore shorts hoping it wouldn't restrict my running as much.
The goal was 6:07 pace. I attacked the reps at full force and hit 6:06, 6:09, and 6:11 through the first three. Despite hitting the fourth rep really hard I was at 6:17 pace when I finished. Although I really do partially question the accuracy of this since I was a mere step or two from the same place I finished in 4 mins on the other reps. Regardless, the four reps together were showing a bit of a fade. So I gave myself a 2 min rep on the next go around and hit at 6:10 pace. Then I did a lot of self talk ramping myself up for the sixth rep. I attacked it hard. Probably too hard since I was running 5:30s pace through the first minute, and then faded to 6:10-6:30 pace for the last two minutes. I was at 6:03 pace at the 2 min mark, and then 6:07 pace at the 3 min mark. So I cut the rep at that point. In all I was aiming for 6:07 pace and I hit 6:10 pace. So only a smidge off the ultimate goal. I did a total of 21 min of I work with 9 min of fruitful work (anything after a 2 min rep is "fruitful"). All in all a decent workout with HAT and some good wind working against me.
I looked at my Alphafly post workout and one of the "pods" has popped and the whole bottom of the shoe tread has collapsed. So those are probably done way too soon. I didn't ever really like the Alphas as much as the Next%2, but this really seals them as not a great shoe in comparison.
I did LIIFT4 Chest/Back afterwards.
Sunday
Conditions -

Few clouds, Wind 10mph to 20mph
Start: Temp+Dew = 39°F + 28°F; FL - 32°F
End: Temp+Dew = 40°F + 29°F; FL - 32°F
Just an easy 6.5 miles. At about 3.2 miles a small dog with a "cone of shame" came out of the abandoned lot and barked at me in the road. I didn't see any person around so the two of us played the game of me trying to get close and him running away. He ran into the road twice. I saw several other people, but no one else seemed to recognize it. I chased it through a few yards, but it eventually evaded me. Despite looking for another 20-30 min I wasn't able to find it again. Hoping for the best.
I did LIIFT4 Arms/Shoulders afterwards.
I'm in a good place heading into race week. The weather doesn't look any better than last year, but maybe with some better pace expectations going into the races maybe I won't burn up so soon. Almost time for this voyage to begin.
