To Fly or not?

My husband just flew for the first time this past June. In the past, we have always driven to WDW because he did not fly. After he flew in June, we decided to fly to WDW for our first visit as members (WLV). I just bought the tickets on Saturday from Delta. Now I'm not sure what to do, go ahead and fly or just drive. We are going next month. Is anyone else in this situation, what are you going to do?

We're not 1st time flyers but are flying out on 9/29 to cruise and visit BWV. I wouldn't let it stop me.

If you had asked me yeaterday, I would have said, we are driving. Now that I have had time to think and calm down, we will be flying to Orlando in 1 week from Friday.

If the airlines are back on some kind of schedule, flying on Saurday will be fine. If safety is the issue I can understand your hesitation but there will never be a safer time to take to the air.

If the FAA allows flights to begin, contact the airline as soon as possible to see if your flight is scheduled. Many aircraft are in the wrong locations and it could take a few additional days to correct this.

One thing is for certain, flying is convenient but this drive will be one of the most memorable.

Be safe.

We bought our tickets for our December trip less than 12 hours before this tragedy happened. My dh never liked flying, but has done much better now that we've flown to Disney 4 times. We've only superficially discussed what we'll do come December...we've been too consumed with what's going on to think about it right now. :/

I *DO* know that if I'm being held by hijackers with small knives I'll learn from this and will NOT be going down without a FIGHT!!! Of course, those on the planes yesterday probably figured they'd just be taken to the wrong airport and never thought they were destined to die.

God bless America!

I have a flight booked to California in November. You betcha I'm thinking long and hard about it but in the end I'll probably go. The trip will be in 3 hops EWR-ATL, ATL-IAH and IAH-OAK and I feel that in the short run (like the next year) air travel will be safer.

My other concern is whether or not my plans will be affected. The news is saying that with the new security requirements airlines may have to reduce the number of flights they have going.

You should fly-if you do no tthe terrorists win. That was the whole point of these attacks. If people want to do there part in helping the country, do not let the terrorists scare you into not doing something you otherwise would. I am going to the world with my family, I would never intentionally do anything to harm them, but to let the terrorists win would be bad for our great country. The risk increases only very slightly and flying is still the safeist mode of transportation. We all must take a stand and let them know they can't win, or they already have.

I would fly also.

As lyndon1 noted above, this is probably the safest time to fly. Security will be incredible, I'm sure. You'll want to give yourself at least three hours at the airport before your flight.

Best wishes for a nice visit home.

I will definitly be flying. To change my plans admits defeat. And we are not defeated. Throw their threats back in their face and live your life the way you are accustomed to. In this way we win and our patriotic ideals survive.

For me, it's not the flying. For one thing I don't think they'd hit the same way twice. It's being at WDW, a place with all those people in one place.

We're re-thinking our early November trip to the Food & wine Fest at Epcot.

DS and I were also going to run down to see the Christmas decorations 3 rd week of December - beginning to re think that one also.

I'm having some anxiety about our trip in November, but I feel that I have to get on the plane. I can't let these tragic events paralyze me. I know I will feel an array of emotions from now to November. We will all get through this.

mikesmom-
I've been thinking about what you said about WDW possibly being more likely to be a target.
It's being at WDW, a place with all those people in one place.
But I think there is always a chance that something terrible can happen anywhere so IF that does happen, I'd rather be with my loved ones on a magical WDW family trip!

We're flying from NY tomorrow morning (if we can.)

My husband was two blocks from the WTC; we're determined to get out of NY For a while and take a well-deserved vacation.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I echo the sentiments of several people here, if you don't fly, you let these awful terrorists win again!! I sure will not let it stop me. I hope you don't let it stop you. Have a good trip whatever you decide.

DH & I are having a slightly different debate. We are scheduled to go, at the end of Oct., for an "adults-only" anniversary trip. Our concern is the strain on our 2 DSs (14 & 7). We always feel sad when we leave them (in the loving hands of grandparents) but we are really concerned that they will be stressed about their parents flying w/o them. We had been really looking forward to this trip, but not at the price of the kids worrying for four days. We are DVC members and all of the planning for this trip worked out perfectly. We even joked that something had to go wrong. In our wildest dreams, we never dreamt of this horror. I even feel guilty compulsing about my vacation plans when there are so many people facing such personal tradegy.

My trip is in a couple of weeks, and I can't bring myself to get excited about it anymore. I'm just so sad. :(
