To EMH or not.

So we are making our first ever trip out west. We will be at DL for 3 park days Sunday 8/26-tuesday 8/28. Figured 2 in DL and one at DCA. It sets up where we could do EMH each day we are at the park. So DL experts, do we EMH or not?

Yes, but if you're spending two days at DL, you'll only have EMH there on Tuesday, and it's not nearly as good as the EMH at DCA (which is limited to Disney hotel guests - DL gives all guests with 3-day tickets a MM that can be used at DL only, and only Fantasyland and Tomorrowland are open). So I'd do EMH at DCA on Sunday or Monday (probably Monday, I guess, to break up DL days?), rope drop DL the other day, and then EMH at DL on Tuesday.

EMH at DCA will probably be the highlight of your trip, ride-wise!

EMH are great. Use them.

Ok, so the cm I spoke to while making dinig reservations told me the schedule was changing and it would be emh sunday for DL, monday for DCA and tuesday for DL. Did I get bad info? I orginally planned out our days based on the info I found the Disney website.

That would be news to me. It's been rumored that they'd go to 4 days with DL, but I don't believe that's been confirmed? What are your dates?

By all means, go to EMH! and may I suggest park hoppers?! You can't go wrong with the flexibility park hoppers give you. You do not want to be in one park feeling stuck there while wishing you were doing something or eating something, etc. in the other park.

It might be a one time thing for that week at they are doing. Several months ago they switched EMH on Saturday and Sunday for the parks just for that particular weekend. No idea why as there was no holiday or special event that I knew of going on.

Sunday, 8/26, is the annual CHOC Walk at DLR. The opening hours for the parks may be a little different because of the Walk, which starts at 6 am on Main Street, goes through both parks, and must end by park opening. 14,000+ walkers can make quite a difference in getting the parks ready for regular guests.

Oh yes, EMH is always at DL on this day, right? That would be in range for dining reservations by now, so maybe it’s that weekend and that explains it...

Yeah, you’re there on the CHOC Walk day, which is why the EMH is different (and I think it, and park opening, will be late that day - I haven’t CHOC-Walked in maybe 7 years, though). I bet @theluckyrabbit knows more. You should definitely use EMH to get as many park hours as you can that day; just be warned that it’s a crazy day.

One big difference between WDW and Disneyland is that WDW gets most of their traffic in the morning, in Disneyland they roll in about noon. You can get a lot of the top rides done if you get there early. The afternoon and evenings are a complete zoo, all the way till closing. Get there early, ride the top rides and work the fast pass

Does the aftermath of the choc walk effect the crowds at both parks or is one better than the other?

DL is usually more crowded, but with Pixar Pier recently opened, DCA may have its fair share of crowds, too. The parks will be summer, Sunday crowded (= very crowded, but definately manageable with good planning). If you have anything that needs to be done at the ticket booths, try to do that the night before (or at the desk at your hotel, if that's possible). The esplanade will be very crowded after the Walk with Walkers lining up to buy their special discount tickets.

We will have our passes and planning to get max pass as well. Maybe add the hoppers so we have more flexibility.

EMH at DL is kind of a bust for us since the entire west side of the park is closed. I'll never understand why they do this.

If you plan to upgrade to hoppers, try to do so before the morning of the 26th. Avoiding the ticket booths on the Sunday morning will save you so much time! And MP will allow you to book FPs for either park no matter which park you're currently in. So park hopper tickets would allow you to take advantage of that feature right away.
