Staying at ASM...

I know to use WDW transport when visiting MK, since it actually drops you off at gate, instead of transport station, but what about the rest of the parks?

We'll be there april 18-23 in the parks. I will have my truck, so it's not an issue of renting a car.

I think on our first 3 days, (AK, MGM,Epcot) we're going to want to hop over to MK since Thurs and Fri it closes early...I figured we could drive to our original park.....drive back to resort hop on WDW transportation later that evening to head back to MK?

Insite appreciated!

Thanks
brandy

The only time I drive when staying onsite, is when I'm going to a resort (other than the one I am staying at) for dinner. Otherwise, I let the mouse play chauffer. Less hassle, more fun. Allows for a glass of wine with dinner, too.

We drive ourselves to WDW, too but always use their transportation. I'm not sure about now, but at one time they even had buses that went from one park to another, because we went from AK to MGM halfway thru the day.

We also consider it part of the entertainment! When my DS was 7 he made friends with a girl sitting adjacent to us on the bus and the 2 of them entertained us all for the whole trip telling each other what they did that day and what they saw! Also riding the monorail from MK to Epcot (or visa versa) is also a must-do for our family.

Have fun!

We used to drive to Orlando when the whole family (5!!) went to WDW, and then when some of us started staying home:crazy2: we would fly and rent a car. It was a total waste, we don't even bother with a car now, we have never driven anywhere once inside WDW!!!!

We also have a good time, taking the monorail from MK to Epcot, the boat from Epcot to MGM, etc. That's part of the fun for us!!!

We drive to WDW, so we always have our car. It gets parked when we arrive and we get back in it when we go home -- we use WDW transportation for everything.

Why deal witha huge parking lot and have the worry of navigating our way around when you can hop on a bus and get dropped off at the front door?

Enjoy your trip!:bounce:

We always allow Mickey to drive us everywhere. If we are going to a resort that is not on the Monorail line, then we will drive, but as a last resort. Where else but WDW can you relax and let someone else worry about the traffic, etc. This makes our vacation much more relaxed. The kids look forward to riding the monorail and the buses -- it's a kind of tradition.

I heard that if your going to Downtown Disney that it's more expiediant to take your own transportation....does anyone know if this is true? I've planned on using resort transpo the rest of the time, but heard that going to Downtown Disney was a pain.

We never drive once we board the plan for Orlando (heck, most of the time we get a ride to the airport so the non-driving starts even before then...)

It's so easy to just get a car service or take the Mears shuttle to your resort and then, like everyone above said, let the mouse do the driving. A couple of times we've gotten some really interesting bus drivers how spew out facts and figures about the park, etc or that just like to entertain their guests. It's fun.

I've never had a problem with going to Downtown Disney using the bus system. You can pick a bus up to go there just like getting a bus to any of the parks.

On suggestion if you feel like taking a more leasurely pace would be to go from a park to Port Orleans (either one) and then take the ferry to Downtown Disney. I planned a night this way while on our honeymoon - we had dinner at Boatwrights and then hopped on the ferry to DTD. Very nice - and the boat drivers are even more likely to give you "the tour".

When we park our van at our resort, we don't get in it again until the day we leave. :D Not having to drive is as much a part of the vacation as anything else, especially for DH. We don't have to worry with parking lots, hot cars at the end of the day, or traffic. We always strike up a conversation with someone interesting, and it's fun to listen to the kids do the same.

We have both used bus transportation and have driven and I MUCH prefer having a car. It's just so nice to be able to go places off property. We are not the type of people who want to have a large meal every night, so being able to drive and get fast food, or stop at the grocery store is a real big bonus. Plus at the end of the day, when we are really tired, the absolute LAST thing we want to do is have to wait for a bus. :D
