To DIY or not to DIY that is the question?

In the pondering mode at the moment.

Having just been quoted just over $400 for 2 weeks minivan hire from dollar, was thinking of doing the DIY thing. I have only ever done it once before and it went ok, apart from the villa we were meant to have being vandalised 2 weeks earlier before our arrival and us having to travel down to Southern Dunes (which was a good resort), anyway I'm sidetracking.

Our party will include 6 adults and 3 children.

We are looking at the beginning of September 07, 2 weeks of course.

We need a 6 bedroom villa and the flights of course.

I rand TCD yesterday and they said I couldn't get a villa without car rental!!

they quoted me £4517 without attraction tickets, is this good?

I like the fact that DIY is a bit more of an adventure, does it all go to plan or what :confused3 .

What do you think??

I have done DIY myself this year for the first time instead of the usual package holiday. So far its been easy and I found it to be much cheaper, just hope all goes well when I reach the other side. Good luck with your planning and let us know how you get on :thumbsup2

I have done lots of DIY trips. It always works out much cheaper than package holidays. Take your time, do lots of research and I'm more than sure you will be happy with the final results.

It wouldn't do any harm to price everything up as DIY to compare with TCD.

We always do DIY as we find it works out much cheaper. Also on the Villa front you know exactly which villa you will be staying and will have been able to ensure it has all the facilities you were looking for.

Good Luck

We always go DIY unless virgin have any offers for a package.
This August 3 of us went for 25 nights total for hotel, full size car with platinum Insurance and flights was £2,100ish, package with Virgin was £4,280
Ok we had a 2 hour stop in Chicago each way but it saved us £2,180.

Out of season is a different matter we have had very good package prices in oct.
I love searching for deals like the hotel we have booked for Xmas £20/night incl breakfast but some people would rather just do a package for the convenience.
Do what you are most comfortable with.

WE've only been to WDW twice both times in a villa we are a family of at least 5. I say at least 5 as last time we went we were 6 as we took DS girlfriend.

on our 2nd visit we did DIY & didn't regret it. The biggest bonus for us was that we choose our own villa. If you go on a package you get allocated a villa on arrival & then have to find it.

We knew the exact address of our villa & had worked out a route before travelling. We knew the exact layout & had seen lots of photos of the interior too. Which didn';t lie!

It worked for us , we used TCD for flights cheapest i could find at the time for direct flights & a local to us villa rental company. We booked our car through the villa company too. We saved money this way too though not a lot.

Get as many prices for various DIY options and packages, and go with the best fit for your party!!

We always do DIY
and I always price package this year even with a child free price , DIY is working out cheaper

it is good fun doing it DIY , get ready for a lot of chopping and changing :rotfl2:

I usually DIY the whole holiday but I found that our trip for next August was cheaper to go with virgin holidays than it was to book separately. But I have booked the car DIY :thumbsup2

We always DIY. That way you get EXACTLY what you want.
