Just wanted to say thanks to those who answered my question on the thread that got closed. I posted from home and dial up is really slow so I didn't come back to the thread after posting.
Wanted to say that our last trip was paid for before DH's job took a nose dive. It had been up and down but not to the extent that we couldn't make our payments. We were on a 12 month plan so we still had June & July. When we came back from our trip the job they had been working was finished and they haven't had much since then. We don't owe a huge amount but I don't have the $$$ to write them a check for the balance right now. In the meantime the transmission in DH's truck (used that was replaced earlier in the year) continued to cause problems and ended up having to have a new transmission. DH has submitted at least 100 applications, been to job fairs, etc.
We both have worked very hard to pay for our children's education, I worked after care at the school for 3 years to pay part of the tuition on top of my full time job and waited tables on the weekend until a couple of herniated disc left me unable to continue to waitress. DH, on top of the electrical job (he's not an electrician so he doesn't make big $$$$, he's an apprentice) worked cleaning the church gym & activity building which equalled about 10 hours a week......with the down economy though......so went the money coming into the church through tithes and the church had to discontinue any paid position as of such and ask for volunteers.
So, it's been one thing after another. What is the saying, "when it rains, it pours."
As for our December trip.......friends invited us to stay with them so accomodations = $0. Have contacted cousin & wife who work for Disney and they will get us comp tickets for 4 days, so tickets = $0. Kids will get money from in-laws for Christmas, so souvineers out of our pocket = $0. So that leaves food & gas. We eat breakfast in the room, can survive in the parks for less than $50 a day. So max is about $500, of which will come from a bonus my DH is due from the National Guard in December........that will also cover the cost of paying off our school balance if we haven't already done so. We could cancel it, but if you knew your DH was being deployed to Afghanistan for a year in 2010.....you'd probably take the trip too.
So thanks again everyone for your input. I'm calling the school today for an appointment to see what can be worked out. Had already been in to meet with the principal & assistant to talk about the coming year. We have always been very involved with the school and they were sad to have us leave but they understand that financially at this point we couldn't obligate ourselves to $950+ per month for tuition.
Oh, and in case anyone wants to bring up the thread were we had to take our DS's dog to the emergency vet for a snake bite Tuesday night that cost us $431+ we were able to work out a payment plan with them. I couldn't let the poor dog just lay there and suffer and possibly die a slow painful death.
Yes, the kids did already start school, yesterday was day #3 in fact. Immunization records, etc. were provided. Yesterday when I got home there was a message from public school saying they received a letter from the private school stating that they could not release the records and if they didn't get the records the kids couldn't go to school there.
Also, I guess the title and what I was asking wasn't very clear. I did not mean to come off as sounding like I was asking if I could do anything. The question was 1) Could the other school legally hold the records and not provide them to the public school and 2) Could the public school not allow them to attend without those records.
Again, we do have every intention of paying our bill and have conveyed this to the principles and last years administrator. My guess is somehow that didn't convey over to the business office. Our goal is to still maintain a good relationship with this school in the event that circumstances change in the future and we feel lead to return the kids to school there.
Sorry to the mods that I started a thread that went crazy!!!!!! You can go ahead and close this one as well if you'd like, I'm sure there will probably be someone to point out all the things we are doing wrong.
