To Carry On or Not to Carry On?

Hello there! I'm leaving for WDW really soon - in a few days, actually! And I'm kind of looking forward to this trip because I just want to relax, have fun, and enjoy myself, along with having some great experiences!

But I'm not there yet - the first stop is the airport. I was wondering if it's alright not to have a carry on bag? I know that it's possible but I'm just kind of looking for assurance here. I've taken one every single time I've gone to Disney but I don't really need anything for this trip. I'm not taking a camera or anything, and I don't know why I'm freaking out. I guess I just need some assurance that this is okay?

My DH hates dealing with carry on bags, so we don't usually travel with them. I just take my purse on the plane.

My only concern would be, what if your checked bag gets lost or delayed? I always pack a change of clothes, pjs, toiletries in my carry-on just in case.

That said, I know that American Airlines allows passengers with no carry-ons or just a "personal item" (purse, etc) that fits under the seat to board ahead of the "regular folks" filling up the overhead bins.

is take a carry on even if it is small.

A few years ago we had a beach trip with my family. We added three days at WDW in front of the beach stay. My bag was mis-routed to Newark. My destination tag was switched with another. I never took the bag from the airport but the lady that owned the other bag held it until her bag arrived.

We bought clothes and the necessary toiletries at DTD the first night. The airline is required to pay a reasonable amount for replacement clothing. Still it was a hassle to head back to DTD late the second night when my suitcase was still not there.

Even a small carry on should carry what you need for one day.

Hey its your trip you do what you want Are you using Disney's Magical Express? If so just make sure you have the tags you received attached to your luggage, if you want Disney to deliver them to your room. Otherwise I don't believe it will matter that much.

To me checking bags (no carryons) is a bigger plus on the trip home. Coming back from Disney is when carryon's are a pain. Most everyone is bring more home then they brought so that makes the overhead bins golden chests

I hate checking bags. By carrying on, I don't have to worry about me going to Disney and my bag going to New Orleans. I also don't have to wait for an eternity for my bag to finally come down the conveyor belt. So much easier.

I don't like carry on bags either, they're a pain. The way security checks are now, the less you're carrying on the better. I really don't want to have to worry about whether or not my toothpaste is the right size and if it's in the proper size ziploc bag, etc... I would love to do zero carry on, but I still do end up with a small backpack with swimsuits (I figure if my bag gets lost I have the shorts and T-shirt on my back for the parks and a swimsuit for the pool and toiletries I can pick up in the gift shop in a pinch), headphones for the plane, a few small toys for my DS (his tablet, puzzle books, etc...) and a few snacks (granola bars and gum to help with the plane air pressure) and that's about it.

In terms of toiletries. I bring a toothbrush and buy the rest when I get there. I use the same bag each trip so I already know it fits in the overhead compartment. Then I get off the plain and right to car rental.

Even if you are checking your suitcase, I always think it prudent to take a small carry on bag. Even if it is a small day bag backpack. If your checked bag is lost or misdirected, you'd be up the proverbial creek, much like DD who ended up in LA with only the T-shirt and shorts that she wore on the plane. Didn't get her luggage til 3 days later.

So I always have a set of underwear and an extra shirt in my carry on. Of course any medication I need. Headphones for the plane. Any paperwork I need for the trip. And because ME doesn't deliver your luggage until a few hours after you get to your resort, I include whatever I will need for that time. Usually that means whatever we will need for park touring, but it might mean bathing suits if we will be hanging at the resort. And of course, a travel size bottle of sunscreen (I refuse to pay resort prices for something as essential as that).

Exactly. And if you are like me (solo traveler with no kids) I carry on everything. I have seen friends check their bags twice and end up going most of their week on vacation with no luggage. Not fun.
