To buy or not to buy? Help!

I need your views to help sway my decision on this one please!

I recently offered on a VGF resale, which was countered and I walked away. It was a decent price but not quite the deal I was searching for.

The broker has now come back (5 days later) to let me know that the seller has reconsidered and is prepared to accept my original offer. It is a good price which works out to $10.93 per point over the life of the contract (ignoring dues inflation).

However, in the meantime I have had another offered accepted for BLT… at lower cost per point which I fully intend to go ahead with (assuming it gets through ROFR). I wanted monorail points to add to my existing SSR points so this does the job.

Question is, should I take a chance and buy the VGF points as well? I feel like it is a good price for a smallish contract which I may not see again once VGF is officially sold out.

I don’t NEED more points right now, but can imagine they will come in handy in the future, and I may be able to rent them out for a couple of years if I don’t use them.

All thoughts gratefully received!

I cant say for sure whether you should go thru with it or not, but i would keep in mind the high point chart at VGF and whether a smallish contract makes sense there.

Good point. It would be enough for 6 nights in a studio during my usual travel dates… so not too small to be useable.

Good enough for me. if you think it will go thru ROFR maybe go for it? Also does it match the UY you have or if not, does the UY work for your travel habits? If it checks the boxes and you are comfortable with the $$, then give it a go... :-)

Here is how I would look at it....buy both assuming they are good prices and in a few years if you don't want one, then you can always sell for just about what you paid or even a slight profit if prices keep going up.

All too often people think of DVC as a long term buy (keep until the end of the RTU date), but there are situations where is could also be a shorter term ownership.

These are completely different strategies. I wouldn't buy either as SAP, I'd buy them because you want home points. If you hate the BLT pool and theme, then maybe those aren't the points for you.

I wouldn't be in a rush for #3. DVC has plenty coming up, it could even be better to wait to see what DVC does with Poly2. They're already sitting on a whole lot of points they haven't sold yet, and the trailers will be online soon. This pricing will impact resale, of course.

Just a note to add that if you are looking at studios, are you OK with the hotel rooms (Resort Studios) in BPK or are you wanting the original studios in the Villas building? The Deluxe Studios in the original villas seem to be going right at 11 months much more of the time since the addition.

That's a good price but I don't think it's a steal. Why would you buy points you don't need?

I appreciate that DVC has held its resale value; I don't think you are at risk to lose a significant amount of money. Maybe you will even make a small amount of money renting and then selling or using the points. But why buy points you don't need?

$140pp is a very nice price. Is it less than or more than 100 points? Is it in your desired use year? Does it have 2022/2023 points still on it?
It was 120 points with some 2023 points remaining (not all). Yes it matched my existing use year.

I have decided, in light of everyone’s very insightful comments, that the answer is not to buy in this occasion though…

I own BLT, several contracts, all resale and I like it. The studios are smaller than the original studios at VGF, but they work for me. Particularly the Theme Park view ones. Great view of the fireworks sitting on my balcony.
