I have read many stories here about incentives DVCers have received. I would like to know which was the best incentive offered to BLT buyers. I know and understand what many say "they buy where and when they like more", and it is OK. But after knowing that some AKV buyers did receive double developer points, I would like to speculate how DVC marketing works, and wonder if it would be posible to BLT buyers to obtain double DPs later.

It would be logical that first buyers receive better incentives, but with BLT it seems to be the contrary as first buyers received less than the second incentives (the $5 of p/p and matching DPs), buy those buyers (of the second offer) received less than that: $1,000 gift card and 5 or 3 nights (depending on amount of points).

So, can somebody speculate on how this works? or if it could be a little predictable when time to purchase would be the best to obtain the best incentives??

Thanks

ILIKEWDW,
I think the best incentives were offered on the DVC member cruise. There is another post around here outlining what was offered.

I'm wondering what will be offered at the Rochester NY traveling show .... (Because I like to torture myself. :lmao: )

I guess we'd be considered among the 'unfortunate' ones ( but let me say that our family has never felt unfortunate when it comes to our DVC membership ) because we never got DPs or any of the other sought after incentives with our DVC'ing. In our opinion, the "incentive" was not to continue to spend money on accommodations for our frequent trips to WDW and have nothing left to show for the money we'd spent on accommodations when those trips were said and done. So we feel the "incentive" factor that DVC has afforded our family is the type of accommodations we can have and flexibility it gives us to often travel to WDW and we are very content with that :goodvibes We are considering and add-on at BLT and/or SSR (due to upcoming THVs) so don't get me wrong, if those future add-on(s) give us the opportunity to get in on an incentive offered then that would be GREAT, but if not, that's okay too because it wouldn't stop us from continuing to add points if that is what we decide at any given time is best for us to do. Time spent waiting for the next best or possible incentive is time lost utilizing points for more DVC fun !!

I just purchased yesterday and was offered the following:

1 - $5 discount per point in the form of a Disney Gift Card, to be used towards Down Payment
2 - Matching Developer Points to be used by 10/3/09 at SSR, DLR or II.
3 - Feb Use Year...BLT opens in Sept. I will get another allotment of points in Feb.
4 - Annual Dues...I don't have to pay until September, when BLT opens
5 - I did 2 contracts of 160 points each...only had to pay $330 (approx) in closing fees

Right now all the buy-in/add-on changes happening seemed to be (maybe indirectly) aimed at increasing AKV sales. Therefore I can't imagine double developer points being offered at BLT for the time being. I'm not saying "never" but I don't think it's likely.

Actually, the new incentives are not better than those expiring tomorrow for AKV and are only marginally better for BLT, but only if you purchase 160-200 points. The $1000 gift card is a $6.25 per point discount off the current full price for 160 points. And 3 nights in a 1-br isn't equal to 160 points unless it's during xmas week. (I believe it's 3 nights for 160-219 points and 5 nights for 220+ points.) We purchased 280 points, so the $5 per point discount netted us $400 more in savings that the new incentive would have.

So, can somebody speculate on how this works? or if it could be a little predictable when time to purchase would be the best to obtain the best incentives??

My best guess is that they were caught by surprise at how BLT sales cannibalized AKV sales. I suspect sales are slightly down overall given the economy, but I'd be surprised if AKV was selling better than BLT overall. That's a total guess because I don't have any access to the sales figures. I can only go by what I've heard from others here and from my guide. My guide said he was surprised developer points were offered given how good BLT sales were.

I think it's easy to get caught up in the incentives, but the only one that is really important is a $ off per point discount. Developer points are great, but they just get you down there to spend your money before your DVC is open. If you're planning on paying cash for a pre-DVC trip (like we were planning on), then it's a good deal. But if you aren't, the DVC marketing machine has done it again, IYKWIM. ;)

I don't think it's to DVC's advantage to make incentives very predictable, and I hunch they use some incentives to increase quarterly or end-of-year numbers...sort of the ace-in-the-hole strategy.

Did you get the Founders Tile and Why did you have to pay closing cost?

I purchased 2 weeks ago and didn't have to pay closing cost.

Did you choose your use year or were you assigned Feb? Just wondering if you can choose whidh UY you want at this point?

NOPE, no Founders Tile. That was for existing members who purchased 160 additional points at BLT.

As for closing costs...they just started making new members pay minimal closing costs a couple of years ago. But it's ONLY on your first contract. If I ever add on, I will never have to pay closing costs again.

I was assigned Feb...but I have NO CLUE about Use Years, so it was fine for me. We will use/rent our BLT for stayes Sept on, and then we get points again in Feb.

I agree. DH and I bought 160 pts. We got $800 off (gift card) and with our 160 DP we booked 11 nights (5 in January, 6 in April) at SSR in a studio and actually still have 11 points left that we won't use. I'd much rather have 2 vacations than 3 nights in a 1 BR and another $200.

Hello,
We just purchased today and we received the same as what In Luv with Disney received.
However we went with 225 points with a Feb. use year.

Thanks,
Ken

We purchased at BLT about four weeks ago - 225 points with a Feb. use year. The only incentives we received were the $5/point discount and two $15 disney gift cards. Did you have to ask for the developer points or were they offered to you? Is this something that I can request from my guide or is it just "too bad, so sad" for us? I am a little confused since we recently purchased and this type of incentive was never mentioned.

No, the developer points were offered after your purchase. You can ask for them and it's possible to likely that you will get them. But they won't come back and offer them to you now.

I read on another post that if you ask for them you will get them, but they are not calling anyone. The poster on that Thread was able to get them. Good luck!

Is there a difference between Double Developer points and Matching Developer points. If you buy 160 AKV points do you just get and additional 160 points to use before the opening of AKV? Why are some people using the term "double developer points". Thanks!

We purchased BLT in late october at the Disneyland DVC and got $5 off a point, 2 Annual Passes, $200 in gift cards, matching developers points, February use year and Founders fountain tile. February use year was all they were offering for new members but I think it will work out good for us. Oh, also we get first crack at the Grand Californian Villas when they start selling them. :cool1:

Because some people got 2x their buy in in developer points. So for a purchase of 160 points at AKV, they also got 320 developer points.
