...are you able to request them when you make your ADR? For example, can it be stated on my reservation that I am requesting a car table if possible? Is this redundant, because why would anyone go to Sci Fi and not WANT a car table???

i don't believe it's necessary. that's a request you'd make when checking in as specific tables are not generally reserved for individuals, but the ratio of cars to tables is so large that it's not something i'd worry about. i've never heard of someone making an ADR and not getting a car. the 'rumor' used to be that walkups would be the ones more likely to get tables (of course that may have well been the case when space for walkups was reserved).

there are a few reasons why someone might opt for a table, but that's their concern. if getting a car is yours, i wouldn't worry about it.

Large parties are more likely to be seated in tables if they want to remain together, and families with high chairs sometimes request the tables instead of the cars. We have always been seated in a car and have never made a specific request.

Oh, there are reasons not to want the car tables. My mom is overweight and carries all her weight around the middle, and we always ask for a regular table when she's with us because the cars aren't comfortable for her. And I know my SIL commented on not wanting to sit in the cars when they were there, because they have 2 kids in high chairs. I'd imagine the cars would also be tough if you are travelling with a couple kids who still need help cutting up food and such, because of the way the seating is arranged.

We've never had a hard time getting our seating preference, whether car or table. :goodvibes

Are the cars smaller then a "regular" restaurant booth? I do just fine with those, but if they're significantly smaller... well, I just don't see the point of going if we can't sit in one of the cars. :/

I didn´t even know they had tables. I made our ADR so we could sit in cars. Hope we get to, even though we´re 6!

I know once before, I called for a last minute ADR and they said all they had was a table, not a car. So they did make reservations for non-car, but I knew it before we even got there.

When I made our ADR for our October trip I requested a car and the CM said that they couldn't guarantee that - that we should request a car when we check in at the restaurant.

The whole reason we're going to Sci Fi is for the atmosphere (since I hear the food is mediocre) and my DS12 and DS9 most definitely would prefer a car! I don't really anticipate it being a problem though.

I wouldn't say they're significantly (or even noticeably) smaller than a regular booth. My mom prefers tables over booths everywhere so it isn't an indictment of the car booth size that she prefers a table there, and I've never had a hard time with the car tables even though I'm not a small woman myself.

Every time we have checked in with a reservation they have asked us when we checked in if we would be willing to sit at a table/car (They even show you a picture.) If they do not ask just let them know what type of car you would prefer. Usually they will tell you it takes less time to wait if you take the table car than the normal car.

We walked right in, no reservations, but no waiting either. It was only about one third filled. Naturally we got a 'back seat' car, and you can get the best photos by turning around 180 degrees and putting your elbows out like you are driving in a convertible. Just ask your wait staff to take the photos for you. Really fun photos!

I too didn't realize that they had tables. I would prefer a table since there's just the 3 of us and I always seem to end up in the back seat by myself. DH and DD sitting up front just chatting up a storm.

the tables are all along the back by the concession stand / kitchen

I'm eating there tomorrow. I hope I ahve a car. never been before and althought the menu isn't that great for me, I know my Dh will love it!
