Tell me what you like about your Nook or Kindle. Can you read in bed? or do you need a "Booklight"? can you vary the size of the font? Do you like the variety of free books? How does the price of E-books compare to the hardbound book?

Are there any drawbacks to the one you chose (Nook or Kindle) that makes you wish you'd chosen the other?

Thanks for any insight.

I received a Nook for Christmas. So far I am really enjoying it.

You do need a booklight - once I get that I can see reading in bed. I like that I can get a book whenever I want even at two o'clock in the morning. E-books are less expensive. I bought The Confession for $9.99 but the hardcover is $16.92. You can also borrow books from the library. It makes me want to read more for some reason.

I've had my kindle for about a year. I read in bed with my bedside reading lamp; same as I would a book. What I like best is the size and weight. I travel a lot and it's easy to carry and I love that I can hold it and turn pages with one hand.

I got a nook for Christmas. I love it. Yes, you will need a light for reading in bed. I got a snap on one with movable light. I love the selection of free books on B&N. Go to the search and put in 0.00 for nookbooks. It pulls up like 1.8 million free books. I have 75 or so books and I only bought 3 of them. I have read 3 books so far. My daughter also loves to suduko (did I spell that right?). I put some music on it and a disney pic for my wallpaper. I really love it and use it every day. I love reading!! I was unsure if I would really use it or if I would miss the book. Nope, I love it!! Can you tell that I love it? In fact in a little bit I will be going to take a bubble bath and read.

Have a Nook and love it. Need a booklight (have one) and that's OK because if it was backlit my eyestrain would kick in.

I love everything about it so far. Nook lets you borrow from the library and I like that feature. I like changing the font and being about to look this up in the dictionary on it. I also like having so many books in the palm of my hand. I like having a variety to choose from without lugging a bunch of books around.

Yup, I'm sold on e-readers. :)

The Nook color is backlit and you can read in bed without another light. You can adjust the brightness of the screen as needed.

I've had my Kindle a little less than a month and so far I'm REALLY happy with it! I spend a lot of time laying in bed reading it with just the lamp beside the bed on and it's fine. I love how easy it is to turn pages with it. It's super easy to download books and so far I've found some pretty good ones for free. And so far I haven't paid over $10 for anything I've downloaded and most things were either free or less than $5. I don't have any complaints at all yet. Oh you can change the size of the font, I have mine on the smallest size because I read really fast and that way I can change pages a little less.

I got a Nook for Christmas and I have to say that I'd have been equally happy with a Kindle, BUT what threw me over the edge to Nook is the fact that I can read other types of ebooks on it, borrow and lend books with friends, and get library books on it.

I've already started talking to friends who got Nook for Christmas and we're comparing libraries to share books.

As far as freebies go, I have several ereader apps on my iPhone, so I've been downloading free books since last spring. The most by far is on my nook app. I have about 120 books between all the freebies and sale prices. So, in my opinion, Barnes and Noble is a little bit better with the free books.

I have owned both and IMO the Kindle is far better than the Nook. In fact I gave up on my Nook and gave it to a friend because I could not stand the horrible user interface.

The only thing the Nook has going for it is the epub library function. Now that I have figured out how to get library books onto my Kindle I will probably never touch a Nook again.

On the other hand I know nothing about the Nook Color since I have no desire to read on a backlit LCD screen. You might want to go to a Best Buy if you have one nearby. They have all of them and you can play around and see which one works for you.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have another question.... can you download magazines to the Kindle or Nook?

Ditto everything you said except I got it for my birthday yesterday.

So far I have no complaints and I am loving it. I still need a clip on light but I wanted a pink one and they were out. I really wanted the e ink or whatever its called because there is no glare and the screen doesn't light up and strain my eyes.

I've always wanted a kindle, but got a nook for Christmas and I have to say I'm very pleased with it. I've downloaded and read a few books for free from B&N and a few from the library as well. I like that option with the nook.

I imagine you can't go wrong with either one.

For those who haven't been keeping up, the Kindle now has the same lend feature that the Nook has had. You can lend certain books - IF the publisher allows - one time for 14 days. Once your 14 day loan period is up, the book "returns" to you and you may not lend it again.

A feature I really like on my Kindle is the "text to speech" feature. If it is enabled - again a decision made by the publisher, NOT Amazon - the text can be read to you using a mechanical voice similar to your GPS. You can specify male or female, slow down or speed up the reading, etc. Although it's a nice feature, what I really like is enabling it, turning the volume all the way down, then putting my Kindle on the bar of my treadmill. I can read while I am walking and the Kindle will turn the pages automatically. A nice feature!!

I've had a Kindle since Oct-09 and loved it so much I bought my mom one for her birthday. I can highly recommend Oberon covers and kindleboards website for lots of great info on both.

I received ai iPad for Xmas and love it too :thumbsup2

(can't believe no one followed "the rule!") ;)

One question not answered yet...While I'm not sure about the Kindle, you can adjust the text size on a Nook.

Yes, you can adjust the font size on the Kindle as well.

I think for most of these kinds of features you will find that Kindle and Nook have the same capabilities. They also have access to most of the same "free" books - unless Amazon or B&N run a special on something new and current, the free books are mostly going to be public domain titles easily available from many sources on the web.

The big bonus for the Nook is the ability to get library books in epub format, which Kindle does not support. The big draw for the Kindle is the text to speech and the 3G which I believe Nook does not offer outside of a B&N bookstore. Amazon also has a larger product line with the Kindle DX.
