To all you "I must have BLT'ers"

Maybe its just me, but is a monorail perk realy worth it? Where can you find a walk as enjoyable as from the contemporary to the MK? And at the end of the day, by the time you fight the lines and wait for a monorail ride back to BLT, you can just take a leisurly walk along the lake. Just my opinion. Also keep in mind that the CR is a convention location and it has been know to have some loud guests. Granted, it is away from BLT but they are still connected.

Why not? BLT buyers can book 11, 10, 9, and 8 months in advance before non-owners. Why isn't that "going to cut it"?
If I am going to pay $140 per point I want more. Without a super-booking advantage, there is really no need to pay this kind of money.

When I've stayed at the Contemporary I've frequently walked to the park rather than take the monorail. So a monorail to the Magic Kingdom is of little use as far as I'm concerned. The fact that I can walk is a bigger bonus than the monorail as far as the MK is concerned.

BUT, I use the monorail all the time to go to the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian. The result of the monorail is that guests at these resorts have easy access to six really great restaurants: California Grill, Kona Cafe, Luau Cove, Narcosee's, Citrico's, and Victoria & Alberts being the top of the pack, and another dozen "good" dining options.

Access to EPCOT is also much better and easier from a monorail resort than from a bus resort.

I was initially excited, but not so much now. I'll gladly limit my usage of a pricey BLT to an occasional tour of the premises and maybe a meal at CR - and ride the monorail for free. For us, it's not worth an inflated price.

A few years from now, BLT is going to be just one of the DVC resorts. Yes, it'll be on the monorail, but it'll have all the usual complaints about bad housekeeping, worn furniture, snippy CMs and how it isn't really "deluxe". Some owners will love it, others won't - and resales will be available. By then we'll all probably be carping about a rumored $200+ for a new DVC at Poly or GF.

You assume..

What if they do offer this as a seperate "product" and the only way to stay there is to BUY there?

It's not beyond the realm of possiblity that this is being set up to compete not with CURRENT DVC but with Four Seasons and as a new "product" Deluxe Disney Vacation Club anyone?
I've had this thought in the back of my head as well, but didn't want to say it.

You hear all sorts of speculation on BLT, and we won't really know the truth until they announce it. There are four big questions to me:
  1. How much per point?
  2. What will the point-per-night cost structure look like?
  3. What will the maintenance fees be?
  4. Will booking be limited along the lines Carol raises?

It doesn't really matter to us. We don't want to own there. If we can stay there, fine. If not, that's fine too.

Half of the BLT draw is convenience (that the location provides). Many people do not think it convenient to pay a premium to advance plan. Why can you not use your convenience whenever you want? Why should someone that paid much, much less get the same convenience as me?

1) A view of Cinderalla's Castle is the most magical view Disney has. Some BWV owners get all excited that they can watch the top of the fireworks, over the Inn from the standard view rooms. A less obstructed view of the MK fireworks would seem to be much more magical.

2) It appears that the Contemporary is the most convienent location to get anywhere in WDW. You can walk, monorail or boat? to the MK and VWL. You can monorail to EPCOT, (and busses to the other parks), You can take the monorail to the great dining in Poly and GF.
plus you are a short walk from the MK bus-stop, which generally offers the best bus service to all other resorts. There is no other resort that has those built-in transportation advantages, that would save a ton of time if you are trying to make an ADR at another resort.

Assuming they have different categories of rooms, the BLT owners will have first crack at the MK view rooms. Seems fair for the extra cost. So for non-owners, that view will be hard to get.

I personally have no interest to buy there, I'll keep my BWV with an easy walk to Epcot, boat to MGM. Plus I only paid $65 (in 1999).

Sorry I have to disagree with this I have stayed at the Contemporary many times and the Poly more and the bus service is bad at best and the rides are very long. Yes it is very easy to get MK and reasonable to get to EPCOT -no more time than most other resorts if not all. All three resorts have great views but that is where I would draw the line.

I would enjoy DVC more if they would make it much more difficult to "resort hop," either by reducing the window for staying at a non-home resort or by charging a fee to stay elsewhere.

I don't know about how anyone else feels about this, but the fact that I COULD easily "resort hop" among DVC properties was one of the main selling points for me when we purchased BCV in 2002. I specifically remember asking my guide if this would or could ever change and he said, "not with the current inventory, but possibly with future properties." He also stressed that "a point is a point" and that could not change "with the current inventory."

Anyone else want and/or think they might take away our ability to stay at other DVC resorts? Or change the way we are able to? Or charge us to?

Hi Guys,

Last week when I saw the new building a few questions came up...I'm guessing this is the place to find the answers:)

While we were on a boat in Bay Lake from the water the building is a half circle so will the balconies be on the outside of the 1/2 circle or on the inside which seems to me that you would be looking at your neighbors across the way unless you are in the very middle of the circle looking onto the water.

The glass walkway looked like a nice feature but then we said whatever that floor is with the walkway is going to be so loud at all times of night & day.

Does anyone have any idea what the pool is supposed to look like? Will it be in the middle of the 1/2 circle or on one side?
Are there floor plans or room decor anywhere online?

TIA;)

I wondered about this, too. Maybe any future on-site DVC will be a "next phase" of DVC resorts and not open to past owners - or not without some form of qualification - like an extra charge, or a home resort point would be worth less than a BLT point or whatever. I'd really hate to see that happen. A point might not be a point.

I doubt that would happen. Keep in mind that BLT owners with this plan would not be able to reserve at the other DVC resorts. I just don't see why this resort is so much more special than the other DVC resorts that it deserves special treatment. Maybe if it was located actually IN the Magic Kingdom. Keep in mind only about 1/4 of the rooms will have a MK view. As someone pointed out, the rooms on the Bay Lake side will be looking more at their neighbors.

I want my BLT! :goodvibes

I want the MK view, walking to the MK, the views of Bay Lake and the Seven Seas lagoon, and monorail access.

The only logical reason for "special" is potential increased rental prices.

You keep rubbing that $65 in our noses! LOL

I wonder if they'll upgrade guests staying at POP, on a MYW deal for $49 a nite with free dining to BLT?

Just to add a comment on possible booking windows for BLT.

HGVC's (Hilton Grand Vacations Company) system is much like DVC's point system. With HGVC, the booking windows are 12/9 rather than 11/7. Now, HGVC is building a VERY expensive property in New York City, and for this property they've changed the booking windows. It's still 12 months for NYC owners, but only 44 days for non-owners, which, IMO, pretty much shuts them out. I wouldn't even mind so much (since it is a VERY expensive property), except that NYC owners can still use their points to book my Hawaii property 9 months out, but I can only book their NYC property 44 days out.

Might BLT work something like that? Who knows?

That doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to me - Bring in Four Seasons, detach the property from RCID for them, have them develop a luxury hotel and vacation homes on a golf course and then try to compete with them head to head with a "Deluxe" DVC property?:confused3

If they wanted to do a deluxe DVC, catering to Four Seasons type clientele, they could have just done the development themselves and kept Four Seasons out of it.

If anything, I could see BLT serving as the upscale end of the DVC system and marketed to those who are affluent, but not affluent enough to sport the coin for Four Seasons level accomodations and ownership. More of a substitute good than a comparable one.;)
