Okay, I am planning ahead for our 2011 trip in early June and have been reading, researching, and reading more on the boards. I am getting kind of worried because of people talking about having their 11 month reservation 'lost' while MS tries to book a different resort at the 7 month mark.

I am planning on booking our home resort, BLT, at 11 months so that we have something (and won't be sad if we are 'stuck' there). At the 7month mark we would like to try BCV or BWV as we anticipate going to Epcot and the Studios more for this visit and really would like to start trying some of the other DVC resorts.

So, my question is- Do you think it is better to risk them losing the 11 month reservation by trying to book a different resort?
OR
At the 7 month mark, just put a waitlist on another resort?

What do you do?????:confused3 Feel free to share your past experiences of what has worked and what hasn't.

Thanks in advance!

Myself, for an early June reservation I really wouldn't worry about it. I've also switched at 7 months during a busy time for a busy resort and did not have a problem. There certainly can be a lost reservation b/c of the system not allowing a room to be held while MS cancels your other reservation but a lot depends on when you're going and if it's a difficult reservation you are trying to get.

Agree, don't worry about it for June unless you have something REALLY in demand and are moving to something REALLY in demand. In which case, I'd stick with what you have.

(i.e. I'm not sure I'd trade a BLT Standard View room for a BWV Standard View room).

I also think that for a June reservation 7 months out, you will not lose both of your reservations. When mine were lost we were 2-3 months out (April for June), and I wanted a VB inn room (any view) and I gave up a BWV standard studio. This was for a 4 night stay after some original time at VWL. Until 2 nights before our trip began, what we had were the 4 nights in SSR after the VWL. FINALLY, I got a call from a supervisor 2 days before we were leaving for VWL, saying that they could accomodate us at VB. That's what we really wanted (we had been to VB in March, but we had just about a week of solid cool weather and rain, so we were hoping to go back in nicer weather!), but so close to the date we had to make lots of adjustments to that trip, like get a rental car!

Thanks for your replies. I am feeling a little less nervous about it all.

I too am nervous. I would have no probllem staying at KV again but we will stayed 3 times and want to tey something different. We are looking for Jan 3-6 in a studio at either BCV, BWV, VWL. What are the chances? Good bad or stay put?

I think you will not have too much trouble. Just ask ahead of time about the availability of the resort you are giving up. As long as there are still rooms there, you should be fine.

When I lost my reservation, I was also calling only a few months out and they did tell me ahead of time it was possible. I was trying for opening weekend at BLT so I knew that those rooms would go fast.

Don't touch the original reservation until your switch is booked.
