I'm not big into the "pixie dust" thing, but I am hoping that something positive happens soon. I hope you get a good response from the resumes you've sent out.

Poor thing... I can give you some practical advice about the resumes..

What did you do in the past?

How long has it been?

What skills did you do?

You may want to go to a career assessment workshop. They are held all over the place, mainly at community colleges, or unemployment offices.

They will assess your resume, and then help you finetune it.

I will be in the ranks of the unemployed soon, I know your pain.


And you know what, my oven died on Thanksgiving day, while I was cooking the turkey.. it can't get much worse than that !!!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your son-in-law's friend. It's terribly sad. And I'm sorry to hear about how things are going for you and your husband.

I have an idea that "may" be helpful. If you have a technical center nearby they may work on your dryer and/or oven as part of their class experience. (The students are supervised by experienced instructors...) They might do it for free or at a reduced rate. It might be worth a phone call to see.

What type of job are you applying for? What kind of work experience and training do you have? I may have some ideas...

Well, just wanted to say I'm thinking about you and hoping good things are right around the corner for ya'll.

I'm like SeaSpray. If I knew how to fix the stuff, I'd be making a road trip NOW!

Now, about T-Giving...Do you have a grill? I can remember a couple of Thanksgivings that my Dad cooked the bird on the grill, to free up the stove for other stuff. If not, can you change venues to your DDs? You could cook, just at her house? Not sure if that will work or not, given how your SIL is feeling.

I second checking out any technical training centers (or even Vocational Technical Schools)

I was just watching TV the other night and there was a nice young couple that tried to cook thanksgiving dinner and their stove broke! The in turn, cooked in on the grill. while that may not be the BEST solution, it's a way of cooking that baby.

Heck you may start a new tradition in your family.

Can you get some part time Christmas employment for now and then maybe with that experience you can move on to another position. While retail may not be your idea of a great job, at least it will ease the money situation for the moment. If you work at some of these large stores, they may even give an employee discount for that much needed stove.

For the Thanksgiving dinner, I'd be tempted to just order one from your favorite grocery store. I noticed in the sale flyer this week that one of our stores has a meal that serves 7-10 people for $35. We're going to someone else's house, so I don't have to cook dinner, but I'd at least consider that if I were cooking.

I'm so sorry you are going through all this. Hopefully a silver lining will start showing through that big old black cloud. In the meantime, throw the turkey on the grill--you'll be surprised how good it is and virtually no clean up (now THAT'S something to smile about!)

You may want to get on your county school's sub-list for: bus driving, cafeteria work and/or substitue teaching. It could be a foot in the door to continue subing (for next year) or for bus driving or cafeteria work when the new school year begins (if you were interested). Or just income until the job you'd like opens up for you.

I was going to suggest what Kermit did. The grocery stores and Walmart have a great deal in their Thanksgiving dinner ads. And it's all cooked for you!. Cracker Barrel has a deal to do that also. I'm not sure if you have to pick it up the day before or if they're open on Thanksgiving though.

Sorry about your SIL's friend. Losing a friend is never easy. And when one seems like part of the family, it makes it much worse. {{hugs}}, prayers and ~pd~ for his family and all of you.

{{hugs}} to your dh also. I think apologizing to you for him getting sick is his way of telling you thank you for all you do for him.

I'm sure you'll get a job real soon. Hang in there. {{hugs}}
