To all smokers and non-smokers

I agree with ducklite. People need to be respectful of others. Perhaps then I wouldn't get so upset at smokers smoking around me. However, when I go swimming in a resort pool and my 2 yr. old DD picks up a cigarette butt and we later find a lighter at the bottom of the pool, it makes me mad. When I'm walking through a Disney park and someone is smoking in a designated non-smoking area, I get mad. I've had the same problem with smokers smoking in a non-smoking section of a restaurant or right outside the door of my non-smoking hotel room at Disney. I take precautions to keep myself and my family away from smoking. However, when someone else chooses not to respect my choice not to smoke, and instead chooses to violate the rules set up by that restaurant or park, then I have no problem supporting a law like the one passed here in Florida. Again, if the smokers here in Florida wanted to smoke with dinner, they could have turned out at the polls just like I did.

from mep319:

" To call someone's parent a mindless drone is certainly way below the belt and I won't even stoop to that level. "
If you read it closely, this time, i said that they weren't mindless drones. they thought for themselves & made choices.

"I'm sure you have no mindless drones in your family."

you would be wrong. I do.

"I won't even try to have civilized conversation with someone who has to be insulting just to get his point across."

no big loss.

I spoke to someone who said the were not enforcing this and he saw 5 people smoking at MK. I was disappointed to hear that so hopefully CMs will tighten up on this. I have been burnt several times by someones cigerette while standing in line at fairs, etc. Some people I'm sure watch, but some do not.

When people can't have common courtesy for the safety and well being of other citizens, then it's time for the government to interfere.

Second hand smoke kills. And if it means governmental action to keep the public safe from people who are committing long term suicide, and in it's course produces a homicide, then that's fine with me.

And yes, I said homicide. When the smoke of a smoker induces fatal illness in a non-smoker, the smoker has by their actions commited a murder.

I agree 100% ducklite.

Does anyone know if it is against the rules to smoke outside your non-smoking room? We were at WDW last fall, and although we had a ground floor non-smoking room at ASMu, it seems that almost everytime we left our room, the two guys from the room next door had moved their chairs outside and were smoking (of course their door was propped open so the smell was also going into their non-smoking room). Not only did we have to subject our kids to this disgusting smell, but we actually had to request housekeeping to sweep up the butts they left all over the place. One time someone even kicked them all in front of our door  Just wondering if I would have a valid complaint. Thanks.

hi maryliz- it's not against the rules at all.. in fact if you ask for a smoking optional room and are given a non-smoking room instead the CM's will tell you that you CAN smoke outside your room. This happened to us in Feb '03. We were given a ground floor non smoking room and told to just smoke outside the room. We felt that we would be bothering those non smokers if we did this and asked that we be placed into a smoking room instead.. or even if that wasn't available in a non smoking room that was close to smoking rooms...I guess we asked nice enough that our request was accomodated AND we were upgraded to a preferred building at the ASMu.
:bounce: :Pinkbounc :)

Thanks for the info! I thought that I had heard something about totally non-smoking buildings, and that it would include "outside the doors" as well. How nice that your wanting to be considerate to others got you a preferred room:)

KDawnLily&maryliz- We too stayed at POR in a non-smoking bldg, but there were ashtrays sitting all around the bldg outside the doors. My DH smokes and did smoke outside our door but there was an ashtray so we assumed it was ok. I always wondered what the "exact rule" was on this scenerio.
