I was just wondering about these "smoking optional rooms". I never knew they existed.
"smoking optional" is just the new more politically correct way of saying you can puff away to your heart's content in this room!
I guess by changing it from "smoking" to "smoking optional" it means you aren't forced to smoke just because you stay there.
I taught first grade for several years and teachers come to easily recognize students whose parents smoke. Not just by the smell, but so many of them have that awful telltale cough. I taught in a small, rural school and knew these parents.
I too have taught elementary age children in a rural setting where I knew the parents. I've never, ever noticed that "awful telltale cough" you speak of nor have any of my peers ever made mention of it. I'm not arguing that children should be exposed to cigarette smoke or that it's not harmful, but I think to say that you can pick out a child whose parents smoke by an "awful telltale cough" is a bit of an overstatement.
There are simply limits to what we can do as far as how other people raise their children. Quite frankly, from my experience in dealing with children, whether or not their parents smoked was the least of my worries.
I doubt that a " Non smoking night" would work. If a facility allows smoking 6 nights a week, not having smoking one night would not be able to be tolerated by folks that cannot be around smoke. The place would pretty much have smoke odors imbedded {not sure about that spelling} in everything. My DW is one of those and becomes ill in the presence of smoke.
That's not what I'm trying to do. No it isn't. I am not.
Don't get your shorts in such a bundle and have faith in yourself that you are OK with people having opinions different than yours. Sorry op for going so off topic and I did not realize how uptight some people would get about others expressing their views.
