To all our DVC neighbors in the NE...

We are still having problems here in Niagara Falls. The power is going on and off in certain area's. Our poor visitors. Hotels without AC - elevators - food. Now the Falls themselves are not running normal....not quite sure if water is being devertied for extra power or what but the Falls base in the gorge is four feet lower than normal and the Maid of the Mist Boats just ceased operations for the day. The Cave of the Winds trip did to as people were stuck On the bottom last night and had to be rescued. Most of us seem to be back to normal but I know at home it went out as alarm was flashing this AM. Pam is right - everyone, turn off whatever you can to help this problem get solved. Maybe I should get off this computer at work and go home!!!! I am going to see the Falls now as this is a once in a lifetime view, more majestic than normal.

I am glad many of you are getting your power back. We lost power for several days during & after hurricane Floyd four years ago - thank goodness for generators. Our electric company is running 15 minutes on & 15 minutes off with our a/c this afternoon, but at least we have it. Try to stay cool.

I was at the ocean with the kids when we heard about the blackout- We live 2 hours east of NYC on Long Island and my first thought was Terrorism (still quite jumpy here in NY!) and my second thought was about all the meat in my freezer!! We made our way home- took a little longer because of the combo of rush hour and no traffic lights. We hooked up the generator for the fridge and lit lots of candles. It was a little warm but not too bad. My DS age 6 was completely bored without TV, PlayStation2, etc. so he rode his bike around the yard awhile and we read some books before it got too dark. We BBQ'd dinner, and I have a gas stove and Town water so we could shower and cook inside if we had too. It was kind of fun but scary and weird at the same time. We all sat around and talked in the candlelight until about 11 pm then went to bed. The power was out 12 hours and came on at 3 am.

We live in a southern suburb of Cleveland. We got our power back at about 9pm last night, however, many did not get power or water until this morning and are still experiencing rolling blackouts. We remain under a boil alert for our drinking water for the next 24 hours.
Clevelanders have handled the situation very well.
Right now, we're just thankful to have the lights (and A/C) on and the water running!

When we lost power, I was looking at the Orange County Comptrollers site for our new deed. I was in suspense until this morning, but the deed was there!
We regained electricity at 3a.m. It was warm, and my Siberian husky was panting, but what if it had been in Arizona!
The blame is off Niagara Falls now; the news now says it originated in Parma, Ohio.

I am in the Detroit area and we got power back in our suburb late this afternoon. However, we have NO water at all. Lucky for us we have some bottled water, but we are going on another day with NO baths or showers here and the dishes and laundry are piling up!

It was hot and humid here today and the lines at gas stations were 2 - 3 hours.

Another southwestern CT'er here, (Newtown) we lost around 4 and it came on around 12:30 last night! We had a backup generator on so really no big deal for us, nice that hubby is an electrician!!! But when the power came back on, our alarm system totally freaked out!!! it woke up the neighbors!!

Well, we didn't get our power back until this evening! Over 24 hours without! And we still don't have one drop of water coming out of the faucet! I am grateful for the pool, we are bucketing the water in to flush the toilets!

TerryS,

In case you miss some threads that were active while you were out of power...

I just wanted to say thanks for posting about getting your BCV pts and MB. I never would have called my guide if I hadn't seen your post.

Thanks.

Our power went back on some time early this morning. I thought for sure we would be out the entire weekend.

floridafam... I just posted on your other thread. You are certainly welcome. I am glad everything worked out for you! I just love BCV and hope that you will too! Isn't Jim great?

I didn't think we would have any power all weekend either. I am grateful we do. I can live without water for another day or so since we have some bottled. Although we are all going to start to stink soon!

Terry,

I may have to come over and grab a bucket or two of water from your pool!

Feel free Pin! Seriously, just PM me and I will give you my address! I have already told some other people to as well! Before we thought about, it was getting pretty gross, and it works really well, just like normal!

Terri,

Thanks so much for the idea! I just had DH ask the caretaker of the apartment complex behind us if we could "borrow" a couple of pails of their pool water and he graciously agreed. It is much more pleasant around here now!

Any idea when we are getting water back? The city was here yesterday shutting off valves down the street so the water mains wouldn't blow out when the water comes on.

Man, what I wouldn't give for my DVC jacuzzi and a couple of BASIN bath bombs right now!!!!

We are getting a bit of water right now pin, but it is all full of air and it is gross looking!

Ahhhhh power and water...life is good again!!!

I work for a supermarket company with store in ME, NH, MA, VT and upstate/Hudson River area NY.

Yesterday I was sitting with one of our engineering folks at lunch and he was talking about when the power went down the day before. We have a Central Station that monitors all the facilities and he said he got a call from them and the guy said - there are stores losing power in NY, one by one starting from the west. He said that they just went one after the other across the state.

He also said some smart thinker in CT saved the rest of the New England states by shutting down the power grid that connects the rest of NE to the ones that were going down. If it wasn't for that, the rest of NE would have gone down too. I think only our VT stores were down in NE.

Hoping everyone is doing OK!

We were out for 12 hours. My sister works in NYC and had to walk down 28 flights of stairs. She spent two nights at a friend's apt. since getting home to NJ was impossible.

It was "fun".;)

And Routeman Dan, 4 hours?? Oh the horror!!!

I finally got power at 6pm yesterday, that's 26 hours after. No running water during the time, and I lived on 18th floor. I walked up and down 5 times to release my doggie. I'm so fit right now. Ha ha.

Actually once we know it's not terrorist attacks, people loosen up, and was actually kinda fun. My neighborhood was having a big block party, everyone singing and drinking beer. That kept me up all night!
