I received a catalog today from Marshall Fields and found this in a framed print and thought it was so beautiful and spoke to me. I hope it helps you also.

An Eskimo legend:

"Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy."

When my DFIL died last year, we received a card with that quotation on it and a beautiful picture.I wanted to frame it, that's how pretty it was, but I was afraid people would think I was a morbid nut.

If only it were so...............:(

Humans, including our dear Eskimo friends, will go to ANY extreme to DENY their mortality:rolleyes:   ........

What a beautiful thought!! :)
Thanks for posting it

Geez, EROS, you seem so positive about this. You have proof that there is no kind of "afterlife?" And "life" could mean something totally different than anything we can even imagine, don't you think? I don't know if there is or is not an afterlife....no one truly knows.

d.kurz, for THOUSANDS of years before Jesus Christ walked the earth, a host of cultures came up with "religions" and "GODS" to explain the unexplainable:) . It's simply part of the human condition to NOT accept that death marks an END of existence. That's OK................it IS frightening for many people to confront mortality. It's sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much easier to think that our "spirit" or "being" moves into another dimension:cool:   ..............

I think BOTH scenarios are possible, EROS. So maybe I'll see you on the other side...or maybe not!!!:D :D :D :D

You're a sweetheart, but my "friends" on the DIS tell me that it doesn't look soooooooooooooooo good for EROS in the afterlife. I think that you'll be going UP, but I'll be going DOWN :smooth: :smooth: :smooth: .

"Them's the breaks":) :) :)

RNMOM, That is a lovely verse. It is a pleasant way to look at things.. I like it that way..

and EROS, remember there will be a line at heaven after I die,
so please have patience while you are waiting at the gates....

I think it makes life just a little bit easier to live when you have faith that there may be something else to do once you finish this life.

Hey Eros, buddy. I have to agree with you about the heaven and hell thing but.... I think we gotta go somewhere. I can't imagine all this energy that is a human just vanishes so....

I think there will be a big bunch of your DIS buddies tapping you on the shoulder and saying:

"WE TOLD YA SO!!!!" ;)

You will like this story, EROS.

Our brother-in-law, also an avowed atheist, was recently pinned underneath his tractor in a terrible roll-over accident on his farm. Now, I don't know how much you know about tractor roll-overs (being a city boy, you know ;) ), but the general rule is that you don't survive them. Period.

By some miracle, brother-in-law did survive. The stick shift smashed through his face but missed all vital structures in his brain and neck. His arm was severely twisted, and he sustained some significant brachial plexus damage, possibly permanent (still has little/no use of this right upper extremity, with no recuitment on EMG).

As the ambulance was taking him away, he was barely conscious but becoming encephalopathic. He began perseverating about a fire "where's the fire. . .do you see the fire . . .it's so hot . . ."

Since most near-death experiences describe a light or a tunnel, we figured that since he was an atheist, he was going to the "fire" . . .

DEB, I don't know where "he was going", but I'm thankful along with the rest of you that he survived. Perhaps GOD wasn't vacationing in CANCUN that day and somehow intervened;) .
