Please use the highway on ramp to get UP to highway speed so that you are not a hazard to those that are already on the highway.

Thank you.

...or a hazard to those behind your slow butt. I can't tell you the number of times I almost get creamed because the person in front of me on the on-ramp can't find the accelorator. By the time we hit the highway Slow Poke gets on okay but I almost get run over by the semi.

Tip: If it takes you a half mile to get up to 40 MPH you probably shouldn't drive on the expressway! :teacher:

Biggest. Peeve. Ever.

(Well, one of them. ;))

One of my very first thoughts to myself in the morning as I drive to work is, "Do you REALIZE that we are getting ON THE FREEWAY?"

Some people need to stay home.

Can I add...if you are merging, please be in front or behind the car in the next lane. Merging while directly next to the other car very rarely works.

And everyone in the far right lane please be aware that people are trying to get on the freeway. Don't tailgate one after the other. Either get over into the next lane or help the incomers merge in.

One of my many driving pet peeves! And why do I always end up behind these drivers. :sad2:

And WHY is it that you can always tell you are behind one before you even get on the freeway on ramp? It's like, "Oh no. This idiot is going to get on the freeway in front of me. CRAP!"

Let me add another:

If you are driving along in the right lane and no one is in the left please move over to allow those in the merge lane to actually merge.

I usually always move over to the left lane when a merge lane is coming up.

My pet peeve is that the people on the on-ramp don't realize that THEY have a "Yield" sign. Traffic already on the highway does not need to move over, slow down, or speed up to let them in.

It drives me crazy when people try to bully their way onto the highway, and get upset when people don't let them. See that YIELD sign, please review what it means!!!

Thank you!!!! They seem to think that because they are coming onto the highway everyone has to stop, move, speed up or slow down for them. Um, no honey. The people on the highway have right of way, it's your job as the merging driver to adjust to the highway traffic!! :headache:

People need a merging lesson. I've found that the further south you go, the less capable people are of merging. :headache:

Amen to that. I love the South but I hate how we drive. Why oh why do people merge 2 miles before a lane ends, then try to block other people from using the open lane???

None of you are probably from Long Island NY where we have the SHORTEST on ramps in the country. Some of them are one full car length to merge onto a highway where cars are going 60+ (speed limit 55).

However, there is a specific "trick" to it and there are frequent idiots-

the steps:
1) STOP at the beginning of the ramp
2) look back to wait for an opening, NOBODY behind you will honk/get impatient, they will do it too
3) See a large enough opening that's as small a risk as possible however there will always be cars
4) FLOOR IT and merge

Whatever you do, DO NOT inch up until you are at the end of the on ramp with cars whizzing by at 60 miles an hour and STOP
Thank you!

That's one of the things ingrained into my brain from my driver's training instructor when I was 15 years old...you use the entire ramp to get up to speed before merging over.

Oh. If you'd written this yesterday, I'd have thought you were behind the same dangblasted trash truck I was!!!!! Thirty five quaking miles an hour all the way up the lonnnnnnnnnnnng merging ramp onto the 65 mph interstate AND HE STAYED AT THAT SPEED!!!! No, there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, the problem was the asinine DRIVER! Even if the issue had been mechanical, the problem was STILL the driver!

And of course, you can't change lanes - the other three lanes are full of cars going at least the speed limit!

I love you, Toad.

and don't get me started on the left lane slow pokes, or the folks who feel like the have to move over as SOON as they see the sign that says "Lane Closed Ahead - 2 Miles".

I'm sure you can do that if the road you are traveling on is not very busy, but during the morning rush hour in Philadelphia, you better get over as soon as you see enough space. If you wait until the end of the exit ramp, you may never be able to get over.

And for those already on the highway, please allow those coming onto the highway to get onto the highway safely. Don't hog the highway, thinking you're the ONLY PERSON ON THERE. Well. Newsflash. You're NOT. If someone is having to STOP on the on ramp because you won't move over, it creates a safety problem because then that person has to accelerate from ZERO right at the highway, causing the other drivers to get upset and they have to slow down or quickly move to the other lane, again a safety issue.

This is what I was talking about, though. If I'm the only around, then, yes, I'll be courteous. Honestly, though, I don't have to be courteous. The ramp has a "yield" sign, so those on the highway are under no obligation to let anyone in. I'm sorry if you have to stop on the on-ramp, but sometimes that's the way it goes.
