I'm here for what is probably my 10,000 post

But there is a real question. We have 550 points, and we thought we had enough. Our family didn't want to go with us to WDW until the children were older, but then they did decide to come and we had a great time. Of course we borrowed.

We're planning 2007, fewer trips than we're used to, and more trips off site, using free Marriott/Starwood points. That is not why we bought DVC, we bought DVC to stay at Disney. If we stay with the trips for '07 that we're planning, ( a 4 night WDW trip with some of the extended family, DGC family, perhaps DMom is included) that will leave us 168 point total for '08. Now, '08 is a long time off. It's when DH and I want a Beach House at VB (We'll have enough points for what we want, most of the 168 are VB points), because we'll be celebrating 40 years of marriage :lovestruc There's nothing "wrong" with borrowing. We could pay cash for say 25 - 50 points right now, and I probably would stay with VWL points. This wouldn't be addressing the whole borrowing points "problem" but it would be a start.

Should we wait or add on now? DH just called, we've been e-mailing about DAunts birthday dinner plans (Her daughter is in "charge," we're just providing some of the rooms), and DH asked if I've called our guide. We're like kids!!

Me? I would add on. But then I am the add on Queen. (I just talked DH into getting 100 VB points so we can stay in a beach cottage every other year).

I figure if you add on now the price will be less than in the future and you have the extra time to use the points. So I say go for it!!

Where will you buy?

Add-on. We did just that to have the luxury of bringing guests regularly. We are not upper income bracket folks, live a simple life style, but DVC brings us such joy that we splurge. Actually the upfront costs are less of a concern now than the $4000/year dues. So if you can come up with the $$, I say go for it. 10,000 posts tells me that your heart already knows what it wants to do! Go for it, Bobbi!

5 DIGITS!!!! I am not worthy... :worship: Please, oh great bobbiwoz, tell me what I should tell you... :beach:

I might wait to see what happens in October. There was a rumor about an October announcement regarding a new DVC resort. popcorn::

Otherwise, I think you should buy -- your p/p ratio is low (points/posts) at only 5%.

Due to changing seasons we are going to need more points for '08 as well.

Because we always stayed CR-Tower prior to DVC & are partial to that resort, we are waiting a bit to see what the next DVC resort will be before doing another add-on.

If VAK or CRV hold no appeal for you I would buy now before another price increase & bank away.

Yes, I realize that there are probably going to be announcements, perhaps in October. I have also decided that part of my reluctance is our younger son's desire for non-Disney vacations. We need to have a better plan for family vacationing with him before we committ to more Disney points.

I'm glad I asked, it caused me to look deeper into what I want.

Thank you for your thoughts. Most of my posts have been word games, I like puzzles.

Doggone it. I hate it that there are so many other great things to do besides WDW. It's why we're gonna have 3 years between trips, which is way to long for me.

When we raised our sons through the 1980's that's what we did, WDW was an every 3 year destination. We're empty nesters now, and have discovered the joy of going there to enjoy the festivals and special effects. I don't think DH or I could wait 3 years between trips now.

This particular son really wants us to do some skiing vacations out west like we did do. I'm finished with skiing, but I'll be happy to go for the sightseeing and eventually our little DGC will want to do that too. I think we have to look at another sort of timeshare for those sorts of experiences.

We COULD go more than every 3 years except that my wife doesn't really like WDW that much -- which is another topic. My kids are always asking to go -- and so am I :yay: .

We used to go skiing one week EVERY year. During those years we did WDW about every 4 or 5 years as an extra vacation.

But the cost of a ski trip is enourmous for the 7 of us so we're on the every 3 year plan for that. AND WDW is over $5000 even with DVC so we can't afford to do that and ski in the same year. (Next year is the first of 16 years worth of college tuition, room and board.)

As I get older (46) I have more desire to visit WDW for sentimental reasons as I grew up down there and it was an integral part of my childhood. I suspect that will happen to your son.

One irony is that we actually bought a ski condo in the new Intrawest development at Winter Park and using the condo is almost as expensive as renting because we lose a week's earnings -- so we still won't go every year.

PS We DO go to HH every year now and the whole family -- myself included -- enjoys that as much as WDW, and DVC makes it very affordable. We don't use all our points so we save them and when we do go to WDW we can get a GV and invite friends/family and STILL do HH the same year. So DVC has worked out GREAT for us and my wife actually loves the points due to HH.

I would rent points and transfer them into your account. They they are yours to use and you can bank or borrow but you don't have the obligation of dues in future years. Good luck with your decision!

I was a full time teacher for many years, and the only time we could go skiing was between Christmas and New Years, and you know what the charges are during that time! We bought our Cape May home in 1998, and before that purchase, we had looked into Winter Park, Steamboat Springs, and New England for a condo/vacation home. Congratulations on your purchase! I know that our sons, both of them as well as DH would have loved it if we could have managed 2 purchases. We had 8 years of college to pay for, but that's behind us now, best wishes, to you who have those costs looming ahead.

And thank you for the suggestion WDWorld2003, yes, I think that if we had to, a transfer would be a more prudent thing to do.

I just have to remember that in 2008, when we have the 168 points, that we will have the 550 2009 points to borrow, and so it goes...
