:)Sorry just needed to get my thoughts out there. The hubby gave me the ok to do an add on since he's now getting the itch to go more often then we had planned on originally doing.

Now I was thinking we'd do an add on for BLT since the price is going up to $140 June 7th. Also since the annual dues are cheaper, and we would like to stay there lol. We were thinking of only 50pts, but that small amount at BLT doesn't get much unless you bank and borrow. We can pay for almost all of the points out of pocket and put the remaining balance on the Disney Visa at 6 months free interest which would be paid off before that time.

Then I got to thinking well... is 50 enough(yes I know common question lol). I think if we're going to add that small amount on we should just add on to our home resort of AKV, but I like the idea of having points at a different resort for another home resort advantage. Plus I already pay enough in annual dues for AKV that I'd like to drop that a little bit lol.

So I told my husband I'm thinking we should do a100pt add on at BLT this way we at least have a little bit of a choice with banking for a year and using the current years worth. This would also bump our total up to 350 pts combined resorts at 7 months if needed. He didn't have a problem with the 100 pts which again we can still do without having to finance, but he's now thinking should we do it at BLT? His theory is now that the Grand Floridian "may" be getting DVC rooms BLT's availabilty will open up a little more for 7 month ressies. He said since SSR is so cheap maybe we should add on there. I told him to think about where he REALLY would want to stay and that's where we should add on. I don't mind SSR's but I'm not looking for home resort advantage there.

Of course you know now I have the thought process of is 100pts enough LOL. I keep looking at the 150pt incentives and hmmm more points is always better right lol. Just kidding. I'm just trying to figure out if we want to do this or not before our trip June 5th. I want to call our guide and have this taken care of so we have a chance at getting 2010's points since we have a June use year.

Yes I know resale is cheaper, but please don't suggest for me to go resale as we cannot do this option fully out of pocket :), and we're not looking to wait for the right contract to come along.

I really didn't think I'd be adding on this early from joining, but the bug had bitten me and now I just need to get my ducks in a row. :)

Thanks for reading. I just needed to put that all down somewhere lol.

It's a tough choice isn't it?! We finally did an add on in March and I'm soooo happy we did! I spent hours looking at the point chart and went over every typical scenario of a trip we would like to take and came up with that 60 points would be perfect! We bought SSR because the $99/point was awesome!

Good luck with your decision!!

I guess I am not sure why purchasing a resale is not an option...

If you are planning on buying 100 BLT points without financing (current incentive for 100 points is $12.00 per point), so it's then $118 per point or just about $12,000.

There is a 120 point SSR resale on one of the sites at $65.00 per points. So that comes out under $8,000 (depending on who pays closing and MF's).

The SSR resale is $4,000 cheaper. AND 20 more points!

Personally, if it was me. I would buy BLT direct. Easy of purchase, instant access to points not a huge savings for the effort right now.

If I was buying any other DVC, I would buy resale.

So if I am reading correctly you are currently at 250 points at AKV. I would agree that is nice amount to have at that resort and if planning an add on I would do it at another resort for the home resort advantage. As far as BLT being harder to get in at 7 months, pretty much all of the resorts have a category or time of year that makes them attractive for a 11 month window. The question is which of those is most desirable to you, then that is the one I would go with. I think regardless of it is a GF DVC or another DVC that the next one will take some "hype" from BLT and it would be easier to get at 7 months. So the question remains where to do want to be? (which is what you told your husband ;)) Price has to play a role, but I wouldn't buy SSR unless you are looking for just more points or THV booking, which it seems you are not. You appear to have thought it through pretty well and BLT appears to have the upper hand. I also think your plan will work well with borrowing and banking. You possibly mention 150 points instead of 100, more points always sounds better. Not sure what the incentive is to move to the next level, however remember you will be saving money upfront on the purchase but will have to pay dues on those points for nearly 50 years so in the long run unless you really think you need the extra points you might be better off with just the 100 for now.

Whatever you decide good luck! :thumbsup2 I am sure you will figure out what works best for you guys and it will work out just great! :goodvibes

Thanks guys for the advice! I do appreciate it. I'm crunching all numbers to see what's best for us. I just think my head started to get a bit wonky and I needed to get all the thoughts out in order to re-focus lol.

I know I won't do anything unless I've thoroughly thought it through. I think 100 extra will be good for us. So back to hitting my pricing sheets lol. Thank you again for the advice/pick me up!

If you decide on 50 points, I would recomment just adding on at your home resort. Fifty points won't get you very far, unless you're willing to do a split stay (even if you bank). If you jump up to 100 or 150, then I'd ask if you have enough at your home resort to get you the reservation you want at the 8-11 month mark? I would want to be able to book the reservation I want first, then opt for a 2nd home resort advantage rather than having the ability to book partial reservations at two resorts.

Not sure if you've stayed at BLT or any of the other DVC resorts yet, but what's funny is DH and I differ in our preferences. He likes the hotel style resorts, and I like the condo style. With that being said, after staying at all of them, the next resort we'd probably look to purchase is BCV. We've been members since 2007, and if you would have asked me a year ago, I would have told you that's the LAST resort I'd look to buy. I had no interest in staying there, and because I make the reservations, I waited forever to book. Much to my surprise, I loved it. I just mention this because if you're in no hurry, stay different places with your existing points and see where you'd like to have a home resort advantage. Like me, you may surprise yourself! :goodvibes

Best of luck with your decision! :flower3:

The reason why we can't do resale is because we need to put a small portion of the purchase on our Disney Visa. I didn't think you could purchase resale with anything other then cash. Granted I am only assuming the Timeshare Store as they seem to the people I revert to when looking resale lol. Also I agree that BLT would be the only resort I would buy directly. Which is what I think we've narrowed it down too :).

My husband and I talked about it last night and we both agreed that we can add 50pts at any time and if we do we'll just do it at our home resort of AKV. We also agreed right now it would be good to add on 100pts at BLT. We just returned in April from a stay at the Boardwalk and while I LOVED it's location I wasn't crazy about the hotel feeling. We walked around the Beach Club since it was right across the way and I think our only pull to stay there would be Stormalong Bay pool and again location to Epcot.

I think adding BLT's modern theme to our AKV's theme gives us a good contrast in what we like in our hotels. I'm thinking of calling our guide to do our add on closer to when we leave and finishing the process down there. This way if we want to change anything we can talk to him face to face. Plus with tomorrow's webcast I can see if any of the incentives have changed lol.

Thanks again for the advice it's much appreciated .

This is to funny, I am in the exact same situation as you!! I am also going to BLT in 21 days and meeting with my Guide! I am also doing the May 17th video on Aulani! So me watching what you may be doing is interesting for me to see! (I am doing this alone)!
so good luck and keep me posted!! lol

We did similar (granted we started with 160 not 250) and couldn't decide on home resort. We owned at SSR and I like staying there and have no problem if that is where I spend all my vacations. But BLT was being sold at the time and the prices were very similar (before BLT was under 100 a point). Our guide was helpful and we ultimately decided to add at BLT for additional home resort advantages. We added 100 points and figured with banking and borrowing we could get whatever we wanted.

As for buying another resort expecting availability, don't count on it. Here is the basic facts of the matter, as more resorts open, more members join. As new members join, they will resort hop more than longer term members. Everyone that gets into DVC is excited to try the different resorts....as time goes by and they have tried the other resorts, they find what they like and what they don't like. They tend to go down to their favorites and are less likely just to take something to try it. Also, for new resorts, they get booked very heavily when they first open up.

I expect that the GF point totals will be more than BLT....it seems to be the trend, that the point costs and number for a villa go up with a new resort. If that holds true, BLT will be the better valued monorail resort and its bookings could go up.

I just got off the phone with my guide! We added on 150pts at BLT!! I know the annual dues will be there each year, but my husband looked at me and said "I WANT THE 150!" I can't argue with that now can I?! :cool1:

This is definitely something to help bring my mood up today since we've had SO MUCH RAIN ALL WEEK!!!! I hope you are all having a wonderful day! Thank you again for all the help and advice!

Congrats on the add on. :cool1::banana: We also live in NJ. My DH and I have decided not to fly to WDW, we are just going to use the arc we are building.

Congratulations, addons is the perfect way to cheer up these dreary days! Did you add on through the webcast? They really had great incentives, if not sign up and watch it today to get that pricing!!! Enjoy your points!!!

Congrats! You definitely thought it over and you and your husband came to a great decision! I am sure you will enjoy your new BLT points. And excellent about adding the 150! It really is true you can't have too many points! ;)

Enjoy and have fun planning that trip with new points. :cool1:

We did get the webcast pricing :cool1:. I called my guide right after watching on Tuesday morning. We couldnt pass up the $19 off per point. I was debating getting 150 before the webcast but after put it right over the edge!
