TMI question about antibiotics

If I'm unforunate enough to get a yeast infection from taking antiboitics, will it happen after a few days or with the first day or two?

Depending on when this might happen, depends on when I start taking it.

Take acidophillus (sp) pills and eat lots of yogurt, then maybe you won't have to worry.

Yep. I eat one yogurt a day and I don't get an infection. I used to get one EVERY time I took an antibiotic.

The only problem is I hate yogurt.

As someone who is unfortunate enough to know exactly what you're talking about, I've found there is no "usually" aside from usually not the first day. For me it could be the third day, toward the end of the treatment, after the antibiotics....

The whole thing is just depressing.

It seems that whenever I'm given Cipro or Levaquin, I get a yeast infection (never experienced it with other ABs). Usually the infections have started later on in the treatment, definitely not the first day or two as I remember it. I'm at the point now where when I pick up any of these antibiotics I also get yeast inf. medication--I usually need it.

For me, it took a few days of taking Zithromax (sp?), and then I got a really bad yeast infection. Your Dr. can perscribe a pill that makes it go away pretty fast, though. I found that the creams didn't work all that well...at least, they didn't work quickly enough.

Usually for me, it's around day 3 if I'm going to get one.

I agree with this. My pharmacist recommended acidophillus pills to me to take alongside the antibiotic and I haven't had a yeast infection from antibiotics since. Ask your pharmacist about doses - it can depend upon the strength of your antibiotic.
