I think what he meant was Dorney Park is owned by Cedar Fair which owns a lot of other parks about the country. They make the same rules for all the parks no matter where they are. I think he just meant Hershey can make their own rules about ages since they are the only Hershey Park out there.

The thing is, I've done tons of research on amusement park rides. Most times, height requirements are decided upon my the manufacturer of the ride and not the park. Their ride and they know what is safe as far as height.

I wonder if the parks are packed because of an end of summer rush. Squeeze in something local before school starts?

I know Hershey's been having lots of ads. I think they have the new water rides that some love. The people I talked to today are season pass holders who are retired!---older than me! :rotfl:
I think you are right about the ride requirements. But still, Hershey certainly would not want to do anything dangerous or unsafe for the riders. I'm sure they pay enough insurance!

Did you get a lot of rain today--oops--yesterday? You were in the flash flood watch. I think Mon is going to be rain free.

Just found this Kyle smilie! He did at least talk after coming in 2nd again on Sat! He didn't like it though...

I had better try and get to sleep. Must get up early...I did set the alarm...I hate days like that!

We had some overnight storms and on and off rain all day. It would look like it's going to clear up and then more clouds would roll in. Actually, it really all has to do with Musikfest that I posted about. It doesn't matter what week in August it is held, it always rains. Almost every day. :rotfl2: Kinda makes me feel sorry for the people who travel here for that.....NOT. :lmao:

I'll say one thing, after gong to Dorney, I really miss Hershey. It was just so relaxing there all while we were having tons of fun. I'm really going to miss it when we got to move. :headache:

OMG!!! I am so adding that somewhere else. :rotfl2:

Have a nice night. My warning expired yesterday. Maybe I'll go surf the other threads tonight. :rotfl2: :rolleyes1

Just like it always snows during farm show week---not really but it seems like it!

You'll have DW nearby...you won't need to miss Hershey too much. I guess the free candy in Chocolate world...after all--that is dd6's favorite ride!

Night.........

Be Good!
I did see one about closed threads that you could get in trouble with if you tried hard enough!!!

Good morning friends! I'm back! I haven't had a chance to catch up on all that I missed....

I had to sign a non-disclosure agreement re: Millionaire. But I think that a lot of you can guess that since I'm Dis-ing from NY and not WDW, you can pretty much guess what happened....

Wednesday afternoon, despite the monsoon-like weather, a towncar showed up at my house. I felt like a rock star! The driver came with the umbrella and escorted me to the car and then got my luggage. Even with the weather, we made good time to the Upper West Side and the Lucerne Hotel.

The Lucerne is a very-boutiquey place in a great avenue off of Amsterdam Avenue. Upon check in, I was told that I was reserved for two nights--which was great! I thought that I had one night on Millionaire's tab, and the second night I'd stay at my sister's across town. But two nights for free was awesome! I was put in a deluxe double corner room on the top floor. Awesome! Even with the rain I could see the Hudson from my window.

I had some time to play before my sister and friend arrived. I spent time playing with the television and reading my trivia books. My sister came after work, and we braved the rain, wind, lightning, and thunder to find a good restaurant nearby.

We found a great Mexican place and my friend who came up from Maryland met us there. They wouldn't allow me to have a sip of their Margaritas! How cruel! We had a great dinner and by the time we were done, the rain had stopped. On the way back to the hotel, we stopped by a Bodega for some more drinks, as we waited for my nephew to show up.

My nephew. His life sucks. He had left Atlanta at 10:30 that morning, and was stuck in Fort Lauterdale for the rest of the day. He finally departed for LaGuardia at 9 pm, and got to the hotel about 1am. I was fast asleep at this time, but glad to see him. I had a big day in a few hours.

Thursday, Millionaire day....

I had to be at ABC studios by 8:30am, but was wide awake by 6:30. I left early and decided to walk the few blocks and get some breakfast. By the time I got to the studio entrance, there were several others already waiting. I had spoken to my producer the night before and knew that I didn't need to bring my guests with me that morning. Apparently I was the only person who knew that.

There were about a dozen people there, all showing off their manila envelopes of "official Millionaire" information. There was a hot HOT guy there, but he quickly revealed that he was a big jerk. He made a big show of opening his bag and showing that he was a medical student. He also wasn't friendly. There was this behemoth of a man, all straggly and dirty, who was blatantly hostile to everyone. Didn't like him either. Pretty much liked everyone else though.

All the contestants (there were 20 of us, ten for each show) were sequestered in the green room (which by the way is not green at all) all morning and most of the afternoon. We were interviewed repeatedly by the producers and the staff, and had meeting with everyone from PR and lawyers about the show. They did feed us bad bagels and stale sandwiches. The best part was really getting to know the other contestants. Although we were battling to get into the hot seat against each other, we cheered each other on.

I had hair and makeup done. I thought it would be much cooler. The lady said herself she didn't know how to do curly hair. She ended up pulling my hair back. It looked ugly and poofy.

We were taken down to the studio and sat our seats for the show. We even got to sit in the hot seat and practice getting in and out. The executive producer came to talk with us, and from everyone, it really seemed that the show wanted us to win. It makes good television.

Finally, about 4pm, we were marched down to play Millionaire! We got to meet Regis--who is tiny and an unholy color in real life. Rather snarky, but had kind words for all of us. I got to see my family in the audience. It was great.

At the end of our show, a celebrity came out to answer a question to win some money for charity. Our celebrity was Vanessa Williams, who is tiny too! I don't know how she competed on the Beauty circuit being so small. Her hair is pretty haggard too...but she was nice. During a lull, someone from the audience screamed "I love you Vanessa!" and she said "I love you too". I totally knew it was my friend---and we started laughing.

Overall, I figure I had a great experience, and the Disney company gave me a trip for once! My name apparently will go into the contestant pool for another two years, so there is still a chance I may get called to compete again. Two men from my show were second-timers. So you never know!

Oh, coolness. At the end of the show, we were given fake checks with our names on it and signed by Regis. So, dear friends, at least you can say you had a friend who was on Millionaire! My show will be on August 10. Just ignore how ugly I look! :lmao:

Friday/Saturday/Sunday....I win something

So the car came to get us Friday morning, and it was lovely not to drive. We had headed down to the Village after the show and went to a Japanese dive bar. This place is not for the faint of heart. The food is good and cheap, and the drinks are cheaper. The posters on the wall are rather AHEM racy, with plenty of anatomy showing. The bathrooms do not identify themselves by "ladies" or "gentlemen", but rather by body parts!

I had a lovely green tea/Kahlua drink---only one. Wow was it good! The food was great too. When the check comes, they give everyone a little cup of sugar---which my dinner companions thought was another drink and wanted to shoot. No! You take it outside to the machine and spin your own cotton candy!

Anyway, that one drink really got me. I woke up with the worst headache. I was nauseous the entire ride home. But by the time I got back upstate, the water and the Tylenol had kicked in. My family was great about it and I told them everything.

Saturday morning, my friend Quincy and I headed over the mountain to Kingston. We were going to attend the event at the Tonner Doll store, the dolls that we are both fans of. Upon entering, they had you a ticket for the raffles they have every 15 minutes! And guess what? I won the first raffle! My friend, and the other we met there, were rather jealous. Had a lovely day though, looking/talking dolls. by the time the even was over, Quincy still hadn't won anything. I asked if he wanted me to rub his belly. And then he won the last raffle! We were both winners!

These dolls were normally over $200, so to get them for free was awesome.

We had dinner at the local casino, it was seafood night. I used my points to score us some free food. Crab legs and shrimp cocktail for free! Yum!

Yesterday was a down day, I ignored everything I was supposed to do. It really kinda hit me what an exceptionally amazing last few days I've had. Granted, it could have gone WAY WAY better, but at the very least I won a free trip and a free doll!

Just had a heart pounding moment a little bit ago. I went to the track at our town's High School to get 30 minutes of exercise and on my way back home I came across an accident of some sort. I slowed way down because I saw cars coming towards me from the oppisite direction having to go around a car parked at the side of the road. Off to my right was a car on a side road that looked like it was waiting to pull out into traffic and a motorcycle with two people off the bike parked next to the car. Right near the bike was a woman and child screaming bloody murder and a man pulling the child up off the ground. I thought someone had hit the kid! As I got even closer I noticed a small black furry body.:sad2: I guess one of the 3 motor vehicles must have hit the kitty and it either belonged to the people screaming or they just witnessed it. What a horrible thing for that little boy to have to see.

Welcome back Kitty! We're still very proud and happy for ya! :thumbsup2

Hope Sukie is enjoying her cruise. :lovestruc Love the present you sent Pikester!!!!

Everyone!

Thanks for your support everyone. Now I feel worse that I'm not taking us all on a cruise!

I forgot to say that while we were waiting outside, this HOT girl came over. Short skirt, tank top, the works. The people I was standing with were like "uh-oh". Everyone thought she would get into the Hot Seat for sure. Its all about ratings! Check her out on the show.....I guess I'm not cute enough!

D&D...you can totally have our rain. We're working on a nice schedule...rain every other day. Its been a terrible summer. My tomatoes don't have a chance!

Pikester Poor little kitty. :sad1:

MagiKitty Glad you had a fun time. Even if you didn't win the million, you had an experience that most of us won't have. :flower3: BTW..that bar wasn't very Disney appropriate.;)

Hey DL55....yeah, I wasn't feeling very Disney after the show. Besides, Disney wouldn't have given me a sushi platter for $8 or $1.50 Sapporos!

It was really cool though to get my travel documents and have it say that I was sponsored by the Disney company!

Magikitty You know I was just teasing you. You can go where you want. You're a big girl now. :thumbsup2

Of course DL55! The only good thing about getting old is not having to worry about being carded!
I see you're less than 3 weeks away from your cruise! Excited yet?

D&D...you can totally have our rain. We're working on a nice schedule...rain every other day. Its been a terrible summer. My tomatoes don't have a chance!

I'll only take SOME of the rain. The only reason my tomatoes are doing well is because I am watering them daily.
Got the first tomatoes and cukes of the season off the vine yesterday. Made a great salad w/ our spaghetti. Nothing like the taste of fresh veggies.

If they continue to do well, I'll have to send ya some.

:yay:I got another job interview for Wed. Assitant Principal:banana: Hope this one pans out. They would like someone who speaks Spanish, but not required. God, I wish I would have taken Spanish instead of Latin in high school. :sad2:
