Walter is so photogenic! He's just so yummy! I can't wait to hug him (and everyone else too....)

Wait, Daytona is an entire week of festivities? Now, that sounds cool...kinda like a mini-Olympics.

I do love spring thru fall here in NY. There's really only two weeks in August that are unbearable...but saying that, after missing Thanksgiving, I do like to have a white holiday season. Not just crazy icy blizzard white. Hmm..is this all fanciful thinking? Is there a place that has snow but not a crazy cold winter?

I used a coupon at Macys for a really good blender. I love it! I've made a mango smoothie and an avocado shake. Next, I'm going to figure out how to make an orange julius...we don't have of those around here anymore and I loved them as a kid.

Here is a new pic of baby Walter. :lovestruc

what a cutie!!! I am a sucker for a gum smile  he is so beautiful!!!

Thanks for all the well wishes on behalf of my BIL. I think he is going to be just fine. He is probably to ornery to die yet. Love him. He is a great guy but at 73 he is still a cad.

I got a "collect call" this morning from the Harris County Jail! :scared1: Couldn't think of anyone I knew there and even if I did I decided I probably did not need to be talking to them anyway. Turns out there have been a lot of people getting the same sort of call in our area. Some scam that ends up charging your phone. Pretty unusual way for me to start my day.

Kitty, those Disney Dream Weddings are beautiful but it is just crazy what some people will pay for a wedding. Not exactly proud of it but I am on my 3rd marriage. I've done the huge ceremony, a small one and also just showed up in from of the JP. Doesn't really matter which way you go or how much money you put into it. Just make sure you put the right people into it! BTW, the small ceremony was the one that actually took. I like your idea of putting that much excess money towards a house!

Sukie, your DH must really love that snow! Mine used to think that he wanted to live in Colorado but I think he has finally decided that even he does not like the cold that much.

JOCAmom, staying in where it's warm sounds like a good plan! Cold is one thing but when the wind is involved it is so much worse.
Awww, a vow renewal would be really sweet.

Mkgaapril, nice to meet you. I think I may have showed up to the thread just about the time you went AWOL. Anyway, hopefully I will be seeing more of you around.
My DH brings home those coffee packs from the hotels too. So far the coffee supply here at home has never got so low I had to dig those up but it is nice to know they can be handy in case of emergency.

Pikester, you are right. I think it is a trade off where ever you live that you get some sort of bad weather. Texas, of course, we get tornadoes. We do have poisonous snakes too. I guess I am better suited to put up with those a couple of months a year than cold weather. Of course, summer here sucks but I love spring and fall here. Plus, this is where our families are from so I just cannot imagine ever living very far away.

LITC, YAY! A new Walter photo! He just keeps getting more handsome! Is he always so happy?
Toting those precious kiddos around is enough to give you a back ache.... but so worth it. I hope you don't ever get a serious back problem cause then they tell you not to lift anything remotely heavy. I am always thinking HELLO! I am a mother! Just how am I supposed to not do that? Thankfully my DD is beyond me being able to lift now but there are still so many things that moms have to do. Back aches are really very, very inconvenient!

Hi DL55, D&D and anyone else out there!

Got this one in my e-mail today. I thought I would share it with any of you who can relate to being electronically challenged like I am.... of course, I try not to relate to the senior citizen part.

Challenged Senior Citizen

I thought about the 30 year business I ran with 1,800 employees, all without a Blackberry
that played music, took videos, pictures and communicated with Facebook and Twitter.

I signed up under duress for Twitter and Facebook, so my seven kids, their spouses, 13
grandkids and 2 great grand kids could communicate with me in the modern way. I figured
I could handle something as simple as Twitter with only 140 characters of space.

That was before one of my grandkids hooked me up for Tweeter, Tweetree, Twhirl,
Twitterfon, Tweetie and Twittererific Tweetdeck, Twitpix and something that sends every
message to my cell phone and every other program within the texting world.

My phone was beeping every three minutes with the details of everything except the bowel
movements of the entire next generation. I am not ready to live like this. I keep my
cell phone in the garage in my golf bag.

The kids bought me a GPS for my last birthday because they say I get lost every now and
then going over to the grocery store or library. I keep that in a box under my tool
bench with the Blue tooth [Blue tooth but it's red] phone I am supposed to use when I
drive. I wore it once and was standing in line at Barnes and Noble talking to my wife as
everyone in the nearest 50 yards was glaring at me. Seems I have to take my hearing aid
out to use it and I got a little loud.

I mean the GPS looked pretty smart on my dash board, but the lady inside was the most
annoying, rudest person I had run into in a long time. Every 10 minutes, she would
sarcastically say, "Re-cal-cu-lating." You would think that she could be
nicer. It was like she could barely tolerate me. She would let go with a deep sigh and
then tell me to make a U-turn at the next light. Then when I would make a right turn
instead, it was not good.

When I get really lost now, I call my wife and tell her the name of the cross streets and
while she is starting to develop the same tone as Gypsy, the GPS lady, at least she loves
me (after 50+ years I certainly hope so).

To be perfectly frank, I am still trying to learn how to use the cordless phones in our
house. We have had them for 4 years, but I still haven't figured out how I can lose three
phones all at once and have to run around digging under chair cushions and checking
bathrooms and the dirty laundry baskets when the phone rings. It was a lot easier when
it was connected to a cord (for the kids out there reading this, yes, there used to be a
cord attached to the phone - and we only had one phone in the house! I won't even go
into "party lines" but older folks know what I'm talking about).

The world is just getting too complex for me. They even mess me up every time I go to the
grocery store. You would think they could settle on something themselves but this sudden
"Paper or Plastic?" every time I check out just knocks me for a loop. I bought
some of those cloth reusable bags to avoid looking confused but I never remember to take
them in with me. Now, I toss it back to them. When they ask me, "Paper or
Plastic?" I just say, "Doesn't matter to me. I am bi-sacksual."

Then it's their turn to stare at me with a blank look.

Evening. I do have one good thing to say about winter...being indoors curling up on the couch is completely acceptable. I plan to play catch up with magazine reading tonight. Mail stuff too. Get as much done as possible before the Olympics--coz then, I'll be completely occupied.

Marie, I would want a smallish ceremony just to celebrate a life's milestone with those I love. But no dreams of $10,000 dollar dresses or gold flaked six tiered cake for me. Good food, a must. Great DJ for lots of dancing. Open bar....just lots of love and laughter. That's what I want.

MK, yes, Daytona is a whole week of festivities. Today was qualifying for the Daytona 500 but only the 2 fastest guys are guaranteed their starting position. On Thursday, the hold 2 races to figure out where everyone else will start. Tonight is also the Bud Shootout. That's just really a race for bragging rights and a lot of money. And for a lot of those who do go to the races, it's just not for race day. It's the whole weekend of events you go to.

LITC, looking at the picture of Walter and I just help to think by his expression that he knows he's a cutie. You're gonna be in trouble when he gets older

Marie, scary about the phone call. It's amazing the scams people are able to pull off nowadays.

Got the new TV today. Wow!!!! What we have been missing all these years. Its so beautiful. Like getting new glasses or contacts. Everything is so clear.

Congrats on the new tv. Those big screens sure are wonderful, aren't they.

OMG!!! DH's boss just called him and told him to look up this guy who just got fired from their company. He's wanted on charges of sexual assault of a 6 year old child!!! DH's company usually has events that the families are invited to. We never go but just the thought that that person could have been around my kids makes my blood boil. And I know there were other kids he was around there. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with people???

That's just disgusting!!! It really bugs me that there are people like that EVERYWHERE. :sad2: SICK! SICK! SICK!!!!
I've had many a talk w/ the boys about what can happen and what to do if it does. Don't know what else to do.

Congrats on the new tv D&D....and from what JOCA has told me about Daytona, with the Superbowl, Olympics and NBA all-star game coming up, you have perfect timing!

JOCA...that is just so creepy. Why wasn't it caught before? So scary. I can tell you horror stories about what crimes I've seen done to children. I will never forget I was involved in a case of sexual assault against an 8y/o girl. She was just so tiny and fragile. My partner at the time was a guy and he was asked to leave the room. She looked at me and asked if he was my boyfriend. I told her that he wasn't, but that he was a really good guy. There was just that fear in her eyes and my heart broke because she'd never feel the giddiness of first love. Her world was changed forever.

It makes me sick to my stomach. DH was totally in shock. We always talk with the kids about that stuff. But it seems it's not "stranger danger" so much anymore. Everytime I read about these type of things, it's always kids that they knew/were friendly with.

That is so true. The stranger abductions/assaults are the ones that get the news coverage, but in general, the assailants are usually either family members, neighbours, or someone that they already know. That's the sickest part of it--these monsters know how to gain trust, to blend in, and to do the unthinkable.

You both are giving me the creeps. Now I'll never fall asleep tonight.

Sorry D&D.

You're right about them knowing their victim. It was a child that his wife babysat for. The police say that he is a flight risk which makes me fear that he won't ever get what's coming to him. And in my opinion, there is no punishment great enough for these monsters.

Sorry D&D! I know its a terrible thing in this world....

I've taught my cat to fetch a straw. Only now its her favorite game and I can't get her to stop! She brings the straw to me, puts it down and STARES. I feel bad, but I'm not above hiding the straw on her so she'll just leave me alone. I swear she has her own stash though...

That's funny, MK. Our dog could play fetch all day if we had the energy. I swear she never gets tired of the game.

I was just on facebook and Gina and Pikester were talking about taking a ghost tour of Gettysburg. Is that something you would be interested in?

I definitely would...but isn't the only day we could all do it is Wednesday? And weren't we planning to do the picnic then? I thought Thursday was Hersheypark...and everyone is leaving me Friday....

I've looked at the website for the ghost tours and most don't start until 8pm or even later.

I really doubt Wednesday night would work but Thursday might be an option. I pretty sure we (my family) won't spend all day in the park. I love HP but there's only so much park I can take in one day during the summer. M&N is there anytime she wants to be and I think by then it will be Pikester's 2nd day at HP.

And here's website Pikester passed along.

Sounds great to me! Can we carpool? I don't think I'd want to be in the car by myself after a spooky ghost tour!
