I think part of it may be denial, but most of it is just her. If something is for her soldiers, she'll move heaven and earth to get to it, do it, whatever. But the rest of us can go to heck.

Now she's giving him a hard time about having to make space for his supplies. Hello? It's his house too! She's taken over 3/4 of their closet, plus all 3 closets in the other rooms. Not to mention you can barely get into my room at all it's so full of her stuff! Ay yi yi, this is not gonna be pretty...

MK, would that be the nephew from the last Tker meet? Truly a boy after my own heart.

You've never been to the beaches in FL?? You really must add that to your list. I've been to both on the east and west coast and I definitely prefer the west coast. A lounge chair, umbrella, cold drink and a good book listening to the waves hit the sand. Add in a good man and some great music and it's like a little slice of heaven here on earth. :cloud9:

JOCA...that does sound like heaven, especially with the winter we've been having! Do you just do beach or do you go into the ocean also? I've heard really nice things about the gulf coast off Texas also. Mmmm...

Yes, that would be my little daredevil nephew. Don't know where he got that crazy streak from!

Wendy, when does the training start? Did you have a family meeting about this? When does your sister go back to Turkey? (which I heard also has amazing beaches). Ok, I think something really may be going on with your Mom now. She's fretting about supplies? I think it is denial or a another coping mechanism. Tell her you'll take care of the supply closet if she goes with you Dad.....

MK, I'm not usually much of an ocean person. I have a problem if I can't see my feet in the water. Growing up going to the Jersey shore, it's not usually the nicest beaches/oceans around. Don't get me wrong, I love the Jersey shore. I love the whole atmosphere there. But the beaches in St Pete's are beautiful. The water was nice and fairly warm. The water was clear which is so important to me.

Wendy, is there a bit of hoarding going on with your mom? Taking over that much of the house with "her stuff" can't be healthy for either of them.

I went to the one in Virginia years and years ago. I love it there. It's just so pretty. And that is even on my list of options for this year. Not much cheaper than Disney with all the stuff we would want to do.

The one in Tampa looks cool too. And being a roller coaster "freak", I think they have some good ones.

Usually every time we go to Orlando, we go visit my BIL and he takes us to St. Pete's. Absolutely beautiful there. I could just sit on that beach all day and then hit one of the local restaurants beach side for some good seafood.

I've actually mentioned not doing the cruise to my stepsis. She is worried about being able to afford it since she only works seasonally at the local amusement park. She said the cruises aren't going anywhere and neither are we....what's it really mean to put it off for another time. My dad and stepmom are the others who are suppose to go. Stepmom hasn't been very keen on going, she has irrational fears of icebergs. It's funky wedding stepmom. :rotfl:

Off of Florida?! :rotfl2:

I took Dad to the dialysis center again today. His dressing was coming loose, so they redid it. We scheduled his training starting Feb 1. It's 5 or 6 days in a row, 3-4 hours a day!:scared1::scared1: So that totally screws my life for the entire first week of February.

OK, now I need to vent. I am SOOOOO furious with my mother right now! Are you ready for this? She's not going with my Dad for the training! She refuses to switch her gym time (which would be necessary 2 of the days), and it's just too much time for her to spend. ***??? She's been married to this man for 50 years and can't be bothered to spend 15 hours with him, learning how to do something that is necessary to keep him alive?? :furious: I don't know what upsets me more, the fact that she won't go, or the fact that he doesn't expect her to. But no one seems to think there's anything wrong with ME giving up my week, traveling 45 minutes each way. NOT that I mind. I offered to go. I think it's important. Important enough to make the effort. I also will stay there the first few nights he does the dialysis. He can't understand why, and I told him "in case you have any trouble". He thinks it will all be just fine. well, here's a problem. He has a very large stomach, and the port goes in UNDER that. He can't even SEE it! So how is he going to do this on his own? My sister is a basket case over this. She doesn't know how she can go back to Turkey knowing that he has no help (and they won't accept any outside help). How the heck do we handle this?????:confused3

OK, vent over. Please return to your regularly scheduled day...

Can't be bothered with your own husband of 50 years?! :scared1: I feel sorry for him. What I'd like to tell you mom probably won't do any good any way. :grouphug: to you for being a loving daughter.

I've been to Busch Gardens in Tampa. We had a great time even though the roller coaster we really wanted to ride was closed. I always have a good time. :)

:hug:Whrgn!!!
It does sound wierd, but when my dad got sick and my mom had to take care of him she did some wierd stuff and refused to do some things that myself or brother/sister had to help with. Said she "couldn't do it any more" I was shocked that my mom would say thing seeing as they were inseperable while married 40+ years. Then he got sick and something changed. Not that I think she didn't love him any more. Just wasn't used to being the one to take care of HIM as he always took care of HER. Plus, as others have said, it was probably denial and a way of coping. Hang in there girlfriend. Parents do wierd things some times, but deep down they still LOVE.

I agree. The beaches on the west coast are so nice. White sand and seemed cleaner than the east coast. We stayed in a hotel on the beach in Treasure Island (outside Tampa) for our honeymoon and it was FANTATIC. Watching the sun set on that beautiful beach from my balcony was breath-taking!!!:cloud9:

I got a PIN code for free dining in Aug-Oct. too. We are debating going again even though we just did this in Dec. :scratchin Might get DH to agree if I suggest we go alone - as a couple and get a sitter for the kids.

Yes, she is a hoarder. She still has my grandmother's clothes 28 years after she died (none of them ever fit her anyway, and are now hopelessly outdated), she still has all of her stuff from her teaching days, even though she retired in 1992. God forbid she should give anything away. They built a room onto the house for all her soldier stuff, and it's so full you can't even get in there, so she does the packing all over the rest of the house.

I think she's definitely in denial, and also she is definitely not used to being the helper. She had a really hard time last spring when my dad broke his shoulder, and that was not much more than helping him put on his shoes and socks!

We haven't had a family meeting yet, but I think we need to. We will all be together Wednesday evening, so that might be a good time. My sister goes back to Turkey on February 10. She can extend her trip a bit if need be, but she can't stay forever.

And yes, Turkey has AMAZING beaches! (but I still like the Caribbean best) We are going there this summer, and I'm looking at prices for flights. Egads they are expensive!!! Trying to find the best option.

Evening ladies...the weather was insane today. During the morning, it was almost warm, but come afternoon, it got really cloudy and started to mist. Then it started to sleet and now its just ice all over! And of course, none of this was in the forecast.

Did anyone else have a difficult time getting on here today? or was it just my computer acting all wonky? This is the first time all day I've been able to get on here....

I've been able to get on here tonight but it's been super, super slow. I thought I saw a thread earlier that they were going to be doing some work on the search feature here. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I see you have a new ticker!!! Does that mean you've book it???? Aug 15th???

I sent a request to a TA that Pikester told me about. DH said yes and I'm giving him a chance to change his mind.

We are planning to arrive in FL on August 15th. I think it will be a nice little break before school starts again.

Why not through Disney? Does the TA give a better deal?

No, you usually can't get a better deal through a TA. It's just more for convenience. Disney's website always works horribly for me and I'm not a phone person. If I can have someone else take care of booking, the more time I have for other things.

Good Monday morning ladies! Freakish weather here today. Its warm, and rainy, and super gusty. Still lots of snow and ice on the ground though, so its treacherous getting out to the car!

JOCA! You rock, woman! Just mentioned the Disney trip and up goes a ticker with a tentative date! I'm quite impressed and so excited for you.

This going between laptop and netbook is really screwing up my typing skills. I have to switch between two different sized keyboards, and the communication between my brain and my fingers isn't going too well...

I did get my netbook skin over the weekend though! Its so so cute! I couldn't find a netbook sleeve at the store, so I turned to Ebay and it was cheaper AND Hello Kitty! It'll take the slow boat from China to get here, but I'll wait.

Let's have a great day ladies!

MagiKitty Hello Kitty cover :thumbsup2 I thought with the battery pack you couldn't get a Hello Kitty cover. I can't blame keyboard size for my lousy typing skills.

Looks like we'll be heading to Hersey. :yay: He's planning to visit upstate New York and visit Niagara Falls too. I just had a thought though that we'll end up traveling over the 4th of July holiday. :scared1: We always try to stay off the roads on holidays plus the campgrounds will be full of inconsiderate (noisy) people. :headache:

OMG DL55! What great news you'll be coming to Hershey! Where in upstate NY are you going? This is so exciting!

Niagara Falls has a special place for BF and I...we had our first getaway vacation there. Its been years though, but there's this little free trolley that takes you through Niagara State park that we really liked and gave us different views of the falls. Of course, I love the Maid of the Mist! Are you going to the Canadian side?

I had to go up a size for my netbook cover...I sent a message to the seller about my concerns and he got back to me and advised that I get the 12 inch cover so it'll fit my excess battery butt....

My reply disappeared!

Sounds like a lot of us. :lmao:

DH wants to go to Cooperstown. I'm looking forward to the falls. They are a classic. :) Not sure if we'll go to the Canadian side. By then we'll have been on the road for a couple of weeks. A couple of weeks without the DIS!:rotfl2:

I went to college about 40 minutes from Cooperstown--where my twins are now in Binghamton. I can totally help you. I love going to the Baseball Hall of Fame and during the summer there's the Glimmerglass Opera. Its also quite possibly the cutest main street ever. I recommend the bakery across the street from the museum.

The Soccer Hall of fame is nearby also, in Oneonta. And you'll have to try Spiedies--a local grilled meat on a bun. Really good.

Don't forget to get REAL buffalo wings. But I can't remember the bar that claims to have created them....

Driving from Niagara Falls, if you're interested, there are lots of wineries in the Finger Lakes region, and I'd recommend the Corning Glass Museum in Corning NY. If you go up past Ithaca, where Cornell is, there are some great hiking trails and the gorges are famous. There's also Moosewood, which is a great restaurant in the Cornell area. Its famous for its vegetarian cookbooks.

You'll be passing by Rochester, where you can visit the Kodak museum and the Toy Museum. Syracuse may have the State Fair at that time and you can visit the butter sculpture! There are also great outlets in between.

My sister will be moving to Rochester in June so I'm sure I'll be able to give you even more info soon!

Oh! And Caprica was on SyFy last night. Its going to be so good! I must admit, aside from my love of all things BSG, Caprica has Eric Stoltz who I have loved forever! And now I get to see him every week? Happiness!

What night?

:cool1::cool1::cool1: Yes! I'm so excited! Now you've got to get on FB!

Carpica will be on Friday nights, but I'm sure they'll run in again sometime during the week, SyFy seems to do that a lot.

My gushing about Caprica has FINALLY brought my BF around. Usually, he just brushes off my science fiction tendencies...this is all stemmed from the fact that he's a Star Trek fan and I'm Star Wars. He liked Caprica and is willing to commit to it. I can't tell you how attractive I find it!
