Morning...

Love the ladies Holly!

DIS really was a pain last night. JO I'll post those recipes on FB for you.

Good morning ladies! No warning on the Dis being down. I was literally posting the recipe.

Let me warn you...Paula loved bad food. And I love her for it.

Here it is:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/ladys-fried-mac-recipe/index.html

Its both the recipe for the mac and cheese and then the "leftovers" you can fry up. I'll admit, I've made this recipe a few too many times! And I hate to fry. But I can't resist it.

Something different I like to make and pick at is something I had at a tapas bar. I take an almond, stuff it into a date and wrap it in bacon. Then I bake it at 350* (coz baking is healthier!) for about 25-30 minutes. Keep the seam side down and let the fat drip into the pan. Its sweet and salty and really good. I serve it with toastettes and some speadable cheese of choice.

It has FINALLY stopped raining! Still chilly out there, but it looks like the clouds are breaking up.

Fried Mac & Cheese wrapped in bacon...WOW!! Can feel my arteries clogging.

I know! Its absolutely terrible. Try to counter the deliciousness by going for a walk. Otherwise, enjoy!

Ok, so I have my first mystery shopper assingments. I have to go to two different groceries and talk to associates and make a few purchases. I'll get reimbursed up to $11 at a time. I figured I have to run out and get stuff anyway and I may as well work while doing it. Plus, I love to write complaint letters if necessary. I have to shop either the meat, deli, or produce aisles. Perfect coz I was planning to make pork chops anyway!

Holy Moly! I was just on the DCL website looking at the cruise that Mom and I will be going on and the price has gone up $180! So glad that I booked when I did. The room is a Cat11C. I also noticed that right now for some reason you can book a 9B(204sqf) Deluxe Ocean View Stateroom(sleeps 3 or 4)Deck 2 for $2152.34 but an 11C(169sqf) Inside Stateroom (sleeps 3 or 4) Deck 2 is $2162.34 :confused3

Good Luck with that!:goodvibes

woo-hoo Pike! All that research paid off. That's money for the spa!

It seems as though the rest of your immediate family is going so I think I would just suck it up and make an appearance. It could a wonderful time for you to spend some time with your mom.
Just go with what your heart is telling you though. You can never go wrong that way.
If only..........my mom is going to the wedding alright, but my sister has her renting a room at the hotel so she (my mom) can take the kids up at bedtime and she and her husband can enjoy the wedding. WTH??? So basically, my mom is just their personal babysitter. :sad2: I already had it out with my mom on this one. I asked her why she'd want to leave HER OWN RELATIVES wedding early just to watch sis's kids. I could never ask my mother to do something like that. If my infant niece needs to go to bed early, just bring a stroller to the hall or GO HOME EARLY!!!! :headache:

I agree....go with low expectations. Worst thing, they meet them.
And being family, you'll probably get the insider ticket. Get to see all the meltdowns. those are always the best.
And there's alcohol, right? free alcohol?!
The free alcohol is the only thing sweetening the deal right now.

Sounds like I'm with LITC on this one...no amount of free alcohol will make up for a horrible night with people I hate. I'm past the age with I care what people think one way or the other.
I am almost to that age and can't wait to get there.

OK and as for my evil opinion:

My first thoughts were
1. Just dont go screw it, if they threw that other party with out you, they will manage this one without you and you will be happier.
2. (My favorite) RSVP yes, (so they have to pay for the food at the reception) then don't show. :littleangel:
3. Go (for food and free drinks) and don't bring a present.
4. Go and spill red wine on the bride.
OK FLAME ME, I know I am an awful person.....
God I love ya LITC!!! :worship: You made my day!

Now out of your list....I would do 3 & 4. And I would eat a ton of food and drink enough alcohol to make the reception fun. But make sure you spill the wine before you have a lot of alcohol. Don't want anyone whispering that you are a sloppy drunk. :rotfl:
Sloppy drunk...:rotfl2:
I'm thinking I'm going to need Bopsmom's t-shirt to wear "I swear to drunk I'm not God" Love it!!!!

I have absolutely no recipes for Thanksgiving. I'm usually in charge of the ham and some potatoe dish. And I have no luck with anything sweet potato, which is cruel because I love it so!
I have a rockin' recipe for sweet potatoes. I'll go look it up and post. It is a total hit at TG. Just don't look at it's calorie count or nutrient value.

This smells sooooo good baking and tastes out of this world good!!!!:yay:

Roasted Sweet Potatoes w/ Cinnamon Pecan Crunch

1/2 C Packed brown sugar (divided)
2 T Orange Juice

In a small bowl mix flour, remaining 1/4 C brown sugar, and remaining cinnamon. cut in remain 2 T butter with folk until coarse crumbs form. Stir in pecans. Remove sweet potatoes from oven and stir gently. Sprinkle w/ pecan topping.

Bake uncovered for another 25-30 min until sweet potatoes are tender and toppping is lightly browned. Makes 8 servings.

If you are bringing the dish to the host house, you can prepare the first half up to the point of the pecan topping. Finish baking at the host house

D&D, it sounds like this wedding is getting worse and worse. Maybe you could go and just stay as long as your mom is?

These recipes are wonderful. I started saving them all into a text document to print out.

MK, have fun doing your mystery shopping.

Pikester, that more like alcohol money for me instead of spa money. Bet you could get some pretty fancy drinks all week with that money saved.

D&DDisney that wedding is sounding like a soap opera! :sad2:

LITC loved those suggestions. :lmao:

If you all are going to talk recipes for the next month I'm glad I won't be reading for awhile. :surfweb: It just makes me hungry. We are thinking of just going out for Tday. DH doesn't care for most of the traditional items and doesn't really like leftovers either.

Thank you all for the kind words on Walter, as always!!

Hi Pike!

Glad I could make your day D!

Good to “see” you Holly!

HI DL, and thanks!

I've just got one of those families you want to get
16.gif
so you don't have to deal with it all.

Evening ladies!

Well, I've returned from my first mystery shopper assignments. It was actually pretty fun. And I had to be super observant. It was a good test of my memory. I've submitted my report and we'll see if they accept them.

There was a brief respite from the rain but its started up again. Perfect weather for cocoa and magazines--there's nothing on tv anyway. I'll relax later after I sort my plastic bags out. For some reason, none of the garbage bins in my house are the same size, so I have to sort my plastic bags for which bin they're suitable for. I figure, its teaching me patience at the very least!

My family has steadily gotten kookier as I've gotten older. We're not drinkers (except for my nephew and sister apparently), we just like to hold grudges and be angry with each other. Which leads to ignoring each other, which is actually pleasant. Much fewer people to bother with during the holidays and I can focus on people I truly care about!

2 packs 10 oz. french cut green beans
1 cup sour cream
1 1/2 to 2 cups shredded swiss
1 tablesppon flour
1 teaspoon sugar

6 tablespoons butter
cornflake crumbs (you can make your own or buy the boxed ones at the store)
Melt the butter in a bowl, then add the crumbs and make kind of a graham cracker finish.

Cook green beans just until defrosted

In sauce pan:
Melt 1 tablespoon butter, mix in flour, sugar and sour cream.Cook over low heat intil smooth. Mix with the drained green beans. Spread mix into a 2 quart casserole. Sprinkle with swiss, and cover with the cornflake mixture.

Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

oh, thanks for the recipes! They sounds so yummy and so easy!

I just got this email with the subject line saying "Scotch"

On the first day of school, the children brought gifts for their teacher.

The florist's son brought the teacher a bouquet of flowers.

The candy-store owner's daughter gave the teacher a pretty box of candy.

Then the liquor-store owner's son brought up a big, heavy box. The teacher
lifted it up and noticed that it was leaking a little bit..

She touched a drop of the liquid with her finger and tasted it.

"Is it wine?" she guessed. "No," the boy replied.
She tasted another drop and asked, " Champagne?.

"No," said the little boy.............."It's a puppy!
