tkd lisa's new years resolution (comments welcome)

Great weigh in! And way to roll with it; you really handled dinner well. Keep up the good work and have a great day!

yikes, the oriental buffet definitely sounds like it could have been a killer! but you did a great job with picking out foods that you knew would be ok, and limiting your portions. it's really nice to know that we can really still go out to dinner and know that we will be able to find something delicious and satisfying and still stay on plan! of course, it takes some self control, but you've got it! i'm proud of you for going with the flow and making it work for you :)

Thanks Denise and Marcia! I appreciate the support.

Now my journal for Saturday 2/7:

What a special day this was. My 10 year old son, Casey was awarded his arrow of light and crossed over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. I have to admit I choked up when he came across that bridge and they put those red shoulder tabs on his uniform (Cub scouts wear blue tabs, boy scouts wear red). He was soooo proud! His face was glowing, and he was trying to be so grown up all at the same time. I'm going to try to post his picture here. It was just after he crossed over, and the arrow is the one his dad and the den leader made which symbolizes all his achievements as a cub scout. What an awesome feeling it was!

Now for my food stuff. Since we set up the banquet, we were pretty crazy. No official exercise, but I certainly raced around like a wild woman moving tables, cleaning counters, etc.

am: cheese and mushroom omlette
slice toast (1C)
lunch: (about 2:30 after setting up), jr whopper (2C)
dinner:
3 chicken wings
salad
green bean casserole
and  17 little bites of cake (2C)

I was one of the judges for the father/son cake contest. One of our guests who was going to judge was fighting stomach flu. He judged the decoration part, but just wasn't up to the cake tasting. One of the other judges was my good friend who is diabetic, and is the one who inspired me to follow that diet to loose weight! He and I were joking about under-estimating what it felt like to get all that sugar when we weren't used to it! Man!!!

Now I'm going to try to add the picture. Hopefully, I don't lose the whole post! I think I'll post, then edit to add the picture.

That sounds so fun! The description of your son crossing the bridge made me smile; I hope you're able to get the picture to work. Once again, way to roll with the food; you do well no matter what they throw your way--keep up the good work.

My dad is diabetic so I am able to eat a lot of sugar free things just because I'm used to it. A couple years ago I decided I eat way to much sugar and started buying a lot more sugar free items. We eat sugar free pudding and Jell-o and Kool-aid. I also use Splenda in a lot of my baking and in my Co co Wheats in the morning. I've never really completely followed the diet by limiting my carbs, but I do believe that reducing my sugars (carbs) has helped. Maybe I should look further into it; I know my mom has some books and cookbooks on the subject. TTYL :)

congrats to your son! i remember when one of my brothers crossed over to boy scouts, it was a really cool experience.

and that cake contest sounds like lots of fun! you did a great thing stepping in like that, even though you knew that was food you don't usually eat. :)

okay guys, tell me if you can see my son's picture. I know I can, but since I posted it in the album, I want to be sure everyone else can. I can't figure out how to get it straight in as a picture, so it's a link to shutterfly.

And my journal for 2/8 while I'm at it:

lunch: 6 tortilla chips (1C)
fajitas (no shell)

Journal for 2/9:

am: 2 eggs, 1 slice toast (1C)
phone call from school that DS was throwing up, so off to pick him up!
snack: wheat nuts
lunch: soup (1C)
cashews (1C)

pm: steak
cottage cheese
pork and beans (1C)

I know the combo sounds gross, but it's something my DD really likes, and she'll eat a whole plateful. Of course, DS was hard over that he didn't like steak and wouldn't eat anything. Given that he'd been sick that morning, we didn't push it.

2 mile WATP after a huge homework battle with DD. Not such a great day today. Report card for her was pretty bad. We expected one bad grade, but she had 2 others on there. No TV for her until interims come out, and lots of make up work that she had insisted she had already done! At bedtime, she started throwing up, so I"m home today with her.

On the postive side, I've stayed on plan, with no cheating since starting this program. The scale is cooperating, and doing the exercise let me calm down from the homework battle. I think I can stick with this plan for the rest of my life, which is really good news!

Bye all. Lisa

It is so awesome that you've found something that works for you! And, it has to be a great feeling to know you can do this AND be happy for the rest of your life--it's important not to feel deprived. I hope the fam gets to feeling better. What grade is DD in? Just curious b/c in middle school weekly grade reports via the guidance office can really help get her back on track--good luck. Here's a little :wizard: to keep you healthy--may you not get what they have. Hope today is a better day! :sunny:

ah, puking children are always fun :crazy2: . sounds like you've got your hands full with those 2! between the sickness and the report card. great job with staying on plan :)

hope your day with dd goes well. and i hope you don't catch what the kiddies have!

Journal for 2/13 (Friday the 13th):

Now this is a week I'm glad is over. Let's hope that there's not another one like this for a long time! Both kids were better, and went back to school today. DD went to Disney on Ice with the youth center and had a great time. They had sold our other two tickets, so since DS had originally said he didn't want to go, he stayed with us. We let him pick a movie to watch, and he wanted Cheaper by the dozen. Had dinner at Subway then took him to the movie. He absolutely loved it, probably much more than he would have liked Disney on Ice, so it worked out all around. No exercise though, between taking him to the movie, and coming back to get DD. Sat and Sun look good for 3 mile walks though, and Monday is a holiday. So I'm thinking that from last Thursday's weigh in, I exercised that Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Mon and Tues. That's 5 days out of 7, which beats my target of 4 and is on my goal of 5. This week, I'll do Sat, Sun, Mon, Tues. Wed is girl scout night, so that will be 4 times. Okay, still on plan. I picked up a yoga DVD as well, just to try something different.

Foor for 2/13,
am: 2 eggs, 1 slice toast (1C)
lunch: cottage cheese w/ pineapple (1C)
cheese
cashews (1C) Busy catch up day at work, so I didn't snack much. I was also passing out Girl Scout cookies to everyone, since they had come in Wednesday, so I did a fair amount of lifting and walking.
pm: Subway atkins club wrap (I'm calling it a carb, but I think it was less). I told my husband that I didn't think those wraps would put bread out of business, but it was something to hold the fillings in.

Total carbs - 4, no exercise :(

i'm glad that you made it through your hectic week and that it's finally over! and 5 days out of 7 exercising is excellent, especially since it seems like it was hard to fit in around your schedule! it's great to be able to set a goal and reach it, such a wonderful feeling of accomplishment ::yes::

that yoga dvd sounds like a great idea, switching it up will keep you from getting bored or stuck in a rut. hope that you enjoy it!

hope you have a great rest of the weekend! :sunny:

I'm heading up to the mall (1 hour drive) to return a suit DH got me for Christmas. It's too big! I think I'll just get the money back, since I don't want to buy anything while I'm in this transition. I'll save it up for something nice when I get down to a 6!

Hey Lisa! Here's to a new week! May it be a great one! You did so well even though it was a long week. Great idea witht he mall--you'll be back for the new clothes in no time. Oh, BTW, I can't see your son's picture--when I click on the link it asks me for a password. I don't know maybe I'll have to sign up and then it will work. I've been able to look at people's albulms before, so??? I just thought I'd let you know. Have a wonderful day--TTYL! :)

Thanks Denise. I'm not sure how to fix that. I think it just wants you to sign into shutterfly. Maybe the FAQ on the technical board will fix the link for the "how to post pictures" question and I'll be able to link it someday. Until then, just know that he was really cute!

Journal for 2/16:

am: 2 eggs, 1 slice toast (1C)
lunch (red hot and blue, yum!)
BBQ pork
baked beans (1C)
20 minutes of yoga
3 mile WATP

dinner: 1 smoked rib
cottage cheese
1/2 c ice cream (1C)

Total carbs, 3

The yoga tape was okay. I did the beginner section. There are 3 more sections on the tape. I did feel more relaxed, and stretched afterward, but it didn't feel like a workout, so I did the WATP thing. I also don't think I can do the yoga with the kids nearby cause it really needs concentration. It helped that with Tae Kwon Do I was used to the concept of focused breathing. I'll try again and see how I feel.

i've never done yoga, but from what i've heard, it really is more about relaxing than actually being a hard workout. good idea to do the watp tape as well. i know that's definitely a workout :)

hope you have a great day :sunny:
