tkd lisa's new years resolution (comments welcome)

Lisa, I'm not sure how I've managed to overlook your journal for so long! :( You are doing a spectacular job and I'm just sure you'll have that clippie next week! ::yes:: Your menus are looking great and you are fitting your exercise in consistently.

Keep it up, Lisa! :sunny:

hey lisa, just popping my head in to say you're doing a great job! i see you're doing the watp tapes. i just bought my first one tonight, may use it tomorrow. keep up the good work! :D

Thanks Marcia and Doreen. Doreen, I think my journal is probably pretty boring! I'm one of those people who can eat about the same thing for lunch most of the time. My husband really can't stand that, so I've learned to mix up things for dinner a bit more. Thanks for the support. Here are the next two days worth.

Friday, 1/16
am: 2 eggs, 1 slice toast (1C)
snack: yogurt (1C) - had breakfast with my good friend Pat. We caught up on everything since before the holidays. Started our own little low pressure cell in the cafeteria, but it sure was nice to visit! I miss sitting across the cubicle from her!

lunch: cottage cheese w/ pineapple (finally finished that can! 1C)
cheese, grape tomatos
sunflower seeds (1C)

Dinner: chicken wings
green beans

4 carbs total

Kids decided to stay for the TGIF activities at day-care so between running to get them dinner, going home, and running back, I didn't fit in exercise. Oh well, I know I can get it in Sat, Sun, and Monday (since it's a holiday) so I'll still be on plan.

Saturday, 1/17
am: Was up at 5, and couldn't go back to sleep, so I had a yogurt while I surfed the web checking out the Boardwalk Villas (rented points for the 2 days before our cruise, woo hoo) 1C
real breakfast after the family was up:
2 eggs, sausage, 1 slice toast (1C) Hubby even cooked! Nice guy, huh?

lunch: tuna salad, crackers (1C)

3 miles WATP. Boy it's definitely longer than the 2 mile. I only had 5 pound weights, so I stopped when they suggested beginners put them down, but continued with the walking. The 3 mile one doesn't have interval training, so it doesn't break up the workout. I think I like the break more, cause I can slam down some water while I'm getting my stretchie band. Well, I'll see if it grows on me. It's probably too long to use during the week anyway.

Dinner: Grilled chicken salad at Chik Fil A. (1C) I didn't like it as much as what I normally get (chicken strip salad), but it had fewer carbs and was okay. I didn't eat the carrots, and I use low fat Italian (probably only 1/3 of a pouch). The nutrition guide they had (yeah, Chick Fil A. Quizno's only knew which sandwiches had less than 7g of fat!) said that the strip salad was something like 20g carbs, while the grilled one was 11 (I'm guessing that without the carrots, it was probably 5g or so). I snuck a couple of DS's waffle fries though, so I will count it as a carb.

4 carbs and exercise today.

good morning lisa! just stopping by to say hello so you don't get lonely here in your journal :)

you've been doing a great job staying on plan with your food and also getting in your exercise! keep up the great work! :bounce:

Lisa, you are still on track and making this look easy!! I'm starting to get the hang of the way you count your carbs - thanks for explaining it earlier in your journal. It may be a good way for me to count carbs when I get to maintenance (notice I didn't say IF I get to maintenance! :teeth: ).

Keep it up, girlfriend!! :sunny:

Journal for 1/20

am: 2 eggs
1 slice toast (1C)

snack: yogurt (1C)

lunch: tuna w/ hard boiled egg
cheese
cashews (1C)

Dinner: Chicken ceaser salad

2 miles WATP tape

3 carbs

Doreen and Marcia: Thanks for the encouragement.

Doreen, the thing I really like about this way of counting carbs is that it makes sense. It's something that you can really do for the rest of your life. When you think about 1 carb being one piece of bread, it's logical. It was a little tough finding out the "normal" range of carbs, etc to eat. But I'd suggest you talk to anyone you know who is diabetic, and see what their nutritionist recommended.

While I'm on the diet part of this journey, I'm trying hard to keep things at 2 carbs per meal as a goal, which allows me something for a snack if I want, and I can still stay on plan. Once I'm at my weight goal, I'll probably go to 3 carbs/meal as a goal, allowing minimal snacks. My friend who is diabetic is 4 carbs per meal, but he's about 180 pounds (at a good weight for his height), and I think men's metabolism is just different.

Thanks again! Lisa

Journal for 1/21:

1 slice toast (1C)
snack: yogurt (1C)
lunch: Cottage cheese w/ juice packed pears (1C)
cheese
red pepper
wheat nuts (1C)
dinner: salad with grilled cheese steak

scheduled rest day for DD's girl scout meeting.

This morning when I weighed in, I had lost 1 more pound, so I've earned my first clippie! Also this makes 3 weeks of regular exercise, and no cheating so far! Even though I only lost 1 pound, I'm noticing more room in my clothes, so I think that the exercise is adding muscle, which is making me slimmer. Maybe I should start taking measurements as well.

congrats lisa!!!! :bounce: 1 pound gone and clothes fitting better! that's great! i think measuring might be a good idea. i know i'm going to start doing that. that way, even if you only lost a little in teh weight area, you may notice more tangible loses in inches ::yes::

Thanks Marcia. It's actually 5 total gone, just one at my weigh in. One of the really weird things. I hopped on the scale this morning, and I had lost another 1.8 pounds???? So I'm down a total of 6.8 now. Whatever works!

Journal for 1/22

am: 2 eggs
1 slice toast (1C)

Finding out that I really can live without cereal in the morning. I've been taking a dose of citrucel in the morning for about a week, and that's helped

lunch: Cottage cheese w/ pears (1C)
cheese
yogurt (1C)

pm: 2 roasted chicken legs (KFC)
mashed potatos (1C) - first ones I've had since starting this
green beans

Snack: Beef jerky (1C)

Had to take DS for his final Boy Scout troop visit, so I didn't exercise. I'm taking credit for my Monday, unplanned exercise to keep me on plan though.

Total carbs today -5

Journal for 1/23

I actually had someone at work ask if I was losing weight. And it was a guy??? Always makes you feel good!

anyway, journal for the day
am: 2 eggs, 1 slice toast (1C)
snack: wheat nuts (1C)
lunch: big salad from grocery salad bar

3 mile WATP

pm: taco salad (6 tostitos crunched up) (1C)
grape tomatos

Total carbs, 3

And I survived the 6 girl sleepover party at our house! Woo Hoo!

I did tell DH that when DD asks to have a sleepover birthday party, remind me that the answer is NOOOOOO. We're off to pinewood derby now.

Journal for 1/24

am: 2 eggs, 1 slice toast (1C)
Had donuts and bagels for the sleepover girls. Man, were those donuts calling my name!!! But I held off. I took the leftovers to Pinewood derby and ruined everyone else's diets!

lunch: hot dog w/ bun (1C)
dorito chip (1C)
gave away the candy that came with the "value" meal at our PWD

DS won his age group (Webelos 2) but took 4th in the pack. He was disappointed because this is the first time he didn't place at the pack level. We had some tough tigers and wolves this year.

Didn't officially exercise, but I was a "car runner" so I probably walked 1 1/2 miles, dodging kids all the way to get the cars from the finish line back to the pit lane!

pm: Had friends over to eat through the remains of the sleepover food.

taco salad (1C)
rice (1C)

Total for the day, 5 carbs.

Lisa, you are one dedicated Mom - Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, sleepovers, oh my! I loved the way you took leftovers to the pinewood derby to ruin everyone else's diets! :rotfl:

:jumping1: NEW CLIPPIE!! YAY!! :jumping1:

Congrats on saying bye-bye to 5 pounds! Your new clippie is looking beautiful!! It's workin' Lisa - just keep it up!! :sunny:

Thanks Doreen, I like the new clippie too! I really enjoy doing the scout thing. It's a lot of fun!

Journal for 1/25
am: 2 eggs
1 slice toast (1C)
lunch: 6 tortilla chips (1C)
chicken w/ onions
little bit of rice and beans (1C)

That mexican food after church makes it tough to limit carbs. After the leftovers from sleepover are gone, we're not doing mexican for a long time!

3 mile WATPs

pm: chicken taco salad (1C)

Total for the day - 4 carbs

Journal for 1/26:

am: Bagel w/ peanut butter (2C)

lunch: chicken taco salad (1C)
wheat nuts
sugar free pudding (1C)

pm: chicken ceasar salad (1C)

Ruby Tuesday's has net carbs listed for their "low-carb" options! It was really great not guessing what was in their food! The salad was supposed to be 15 carbs. I'm guessing most of that was in the dressing.

hey lisa, looks like you're crusing along. great job! and it really is great to be able to eat out and not have to guess! i'm so jealous of you carb counters, with all these new "atkins friendly" menus out there! can't wait till the ww menu shows up at my local applebees :)

Journal for 1/27:

Trip to Texas was turned into a virtual meeting due to ice delaying most flights out of DC area, so here I am!

am: 2 eggs
1 slice toast (1C)

lunch: since I planned on being on the road at this time, I didn't bring it with me. Our cafeteria stinks for low carb choices, since the hot line wasn't running due to low attendance.
ham wrap (2 C) I threw out as much of the wrap as I could, and still keep the sandwich together.
cashews

pm: taco salad (1C)
and we finally finished all the stuff from the sleep over! It will be a long time before I fix mexican at home!

3 miles WATP

Total carbs - 4

I like virtual meetings better than flying to Texas!! Guess I'm a homebody at heart, unless it's a trip to Disney World...:teeth: ...which is like a second home to our family!

You're doing a great job!

I just gotta ask....what does the TKD in your user name stand for? Tae kwon do? Total ketogenic diet? Totally kind and devoted? Inquiring minds want to know... :p If I'm being too nosey, just tell me. :D

Have a sunny day, Lisa! :sunny:
