JDo they automatically add the 18% gratuity to the counter service meals at Pop/AS, etc? That seems to negate the discount, since no one would ever tip there.

No, they do not add gratuities at places that you would not normally give one.

Thank you I was just about to post the same thing, that the card is meant for a table full of people. It always amazes me that when Disney does something like increase prices directed at their most loyal customers during a very difficult economic time, that their is always someone defending Disney & blaming the consumer for abusing the system. Sorry but I don't feel bad for Disney execs who have been raking in millions of dollars over the years. According to an article from the Washington Post dated February 9, 2009: "Ask the Securities and Exchange Commission what Walt Disney Co. chief executive Robert A. Iger made last year, and you get $30.6 million. Now ask Paul Hodgson, a senior research associate for the Corporate Library, and you get a different answer: $21.4 million. Want another opinion? It's not hard to find one. Here's what Graef Crystal, an expert on executive compensation, came up with: $51.1 million." Either way, suffice it to say it was a LOT of money! Why don't they try cutting out some of their own "perks" instead of directing their cost savings at their devoted employees & their most loyal consumers!

IMHO, they should be rewarding their repeat customers, many of which are less about being park commando & more likely to spend more leisure time & therefore more money at restaurants, bars, cirque du soliel, etc. instead of spending most of their resources on marketing to new consumers (and quite a few of them might make that once in a lifetime trek never to return)! Do they need to increase prices now & then...yes but that should go along with a growing economy. Do they need to bring in more customers every year...sure they do, but if they keep ignoring us (the ever faithful patrons) they might turn around one day & wonder why we stopped coming! It could happen!

Some time back there was a baseball player who turned down something like a20 plus million dollars (at the time at the high end). He had a no trade clause. He and his family wanted to stay where they were at. A reporter commented to him you have to be crazy to turn that down. The player said if he couldn't live on 7 million dollars a year then there has to be something wrong with the way he is living.

Give the CEO a 50 million dollar signing bonus, then pay him a million or so each year as a salary. Too bad it can't be done, but it would save a lot of money.

They total the bill, they take the 20% discount, then they charge the 18% tip. So, you actually break even sooner than $375, assuming you don't tip more.

Example:
The card costs $75.
With TIW, Your total cost for a $100 meal is $94.40
Without TIW, A $100 meal plus 18% tip = $118 (assuming you don't choose to tip less)
So, for every $100 meal total, you are actually saving $23.60
You break even at $318.

We are a large family, and making 3 trips this year, so we will save a lot of money! (and, we bought the card in January for $60!)

The required tip saved us on tips. It irrates us when they say tip will be included. We use to tip minimum 20%. My wife said if they are going to add 18% then 18% is what they get. One server questioned us on the amount once and she told him to go talk to his boss since they set the guide line. He looked at me for recourse. I just looked at him and said "Hey she is a polish tight wad and my policy is I don't fight with someone who can beat me up".
