So we are going to use the TIW card for the 1st time during our upcoming trip. Very excited as we ran the #'s & realized we would save over $300 this with the card over the DP's.

Now, I see that TIW also offers a discount on alcohol at their participating restaurants. Has anyone been able to get "togo" alcohol beverages from participating restaurants/lounges?

:drinking1

The off-license items are sold in the resort stores, where the TIW wouldn't apply. I guess you can always ask, but I'm betting the lounges/restaurants won't sell bottles. If they do, I'm also betting you won't want to pay the price -- even with a 20% discount.

I was actually thinking of a pint of beer, glass of wine or a mixed drink as opposed to the entire bottle.

Like, being able to walk into Rose & Crown & get a pint togo or a lounge at a resort & getting a mixed drink or glass of wine to go & enjoy either back at the room or outside.

We've found that any of the participating places that can do "to-go" cups will do it with the discount! :thumbsup2 The only drawback is that they usually have to get a manager to ring in the discount so you might have to wait a few minutes.

Yeah! Would you mind sharing where you have been able to do this?

Let's see, I know for sure we've done it at the Rose & Crown, Tune-In Lounge, Raglan Road, and ESPN club. I'm thinking we also did it at Tutto Gusto, but I can't remember for certain on that one. We do love our beer! :drinking1 They still add the 18%, but we're good tippers even for drinks so that's no problem.

It's almost not worth it at the R&C if they're packed though, it's hard enough just to get an order placed let alone waiting for the discount.

I know they do it at the resorts. The Gurgling Suitcase at OKW is a favorite to pick up a margarita to bring back to the room. And the resorts also have pool bars.

Awesome!

Do they take TIW at the pool bars?

fyi, they don't allow alcohol in an open container(like a grey goose slushie;), beer, wine) to be taken out of the park.

It's always so funny to see the groups of people at the International Gateway during F&W chugging their drinks before they can leave! ;)

You also can't take any into the park. For example if you get a to-go drink at the Boardwalk you can walk with it along the path to Epcot or Studios but even in a Disney cup you have to finish it before you can go in the gates.

Oh, and unless it's changed recently they don't take TiW at the pool bars. :(

did you use that calculator to figure out if it would be more beneficial to figure out if the TIW card would be better than the DP? I just heard about that card the other day & downloaded the calculator the other day, but haven't finished everything yet..

The new TIW cards do not require a manager approval. There is a barcode or something and they can swipe the card. At least that was the case in Jan, including use at Rose and Crown.

I used this one http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3050182 & then (because I have issues:rotfl2:) actually made my own excel sheet figuring out what we would order if we went w/o a dining plan BUT not worrying about money & compared the cost, plus tax & tip, minus the 20% discount to using the DP plus tip & TIW saved me a ton of money, was WAY more flexible, & there is the added bonus of 20% off alcohol. We could even split an app & dessert (best of both world)!

What calculator are you using?

Great to hear the new TIW cards do not require a manager approval.

Also, I emailed the TIW card people with a question & Top of the World lounge is included even though it is not listed. Does anyone else know of places included, but not listed on their website?

We've done it at the Tune-In lounge at the Studios a few times. As a general rule the pool bars don't give the discount, but it never hurts to ask.

Sweeeet!!! :thumbsup2 We haven't been back since October, but we'll be there in less than two weeks. That will certainly make life easier!

We have only done the TIW card once before on our wedding/honeymoom trip but will be using it for our upcoming trip instead of the Deluxe Dining Plan (also, created a complicated Excel sheet to massage the numbers)...

Anyway, the last time we had the TIW card, we got the discount on Grand Marnier slushies in France! :goodvibes

Drinks is just one of the reasons we decided to go with the TIW card this time as we like wine or a cocktail with dinner or while at lobby bar or walkng around WS or other parks and on the DDP doesn't help us with saving any $ there...

You can just oder a drink to take with you from any of the places that take the tiw .It is not just for dinner.
However keep in mind that even if you get a (metal)bottle of beer or glass of wine from say martha vineyard to take to pool or room.you will automaticaly be charged 18 percent Tip each time you use it.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were looking for. As others have said, you'll find lots of places to grab a drink to go, and yes, they'll give you the TIW if they're on the list.

Top of the World lounge does take TIW. We've used it there on several trips. I suspect it isn't on the TIW web site list for the same reason it isn't on the list of restaurants & lounges on www.disneyworld.com; because it's a private lounge only open to DVC members and not open to the general public. I don't think there are others omitted from the list.
