For the past few years there has been a patriotic celebration and flag display as part of the Independence Day festivities in Idaho Falls Idaho where my parents live. The community gathers usually the weekend before July 4th and 1776 people will carry flags and march approximately 2 miles to a designated field where the flags are arranged in a circle surrounding a large United States flag. I happened to attend this event in 2005 and came away very impressed. After the ceremony the flags remain displayed until the weekend after July 4th. I took that opportunity to visit the display at different times of the day and took photos to try and capture the patriotic feelings of that place. Below are a few of the shots I took during that trip
A Sea of Flags
Flag Exposures
Old Glory at Sunset
Flags Wave at Sunset
The Title of Liberty
Flags at Sunrise
Dawn in America
This year we will again find ourselves in Idaho during this festival and I am hoping to capture a little bit of the magic surrounding this event. If you have an opportunity to attend this or a similar event I highly recommend it. It gives you a new appreciation for what the flag represents to this citizens of this country.
