Today was my day off, and I felt like getting out of the house, so my mom and I decided to go check out the new Titanic museum. (They have a website here)

I thought I'd share a few of the photos I took- most didn't turn out very well, so that means I'll just have to go back! ;)

titanic1.jpg

The building from the outside- I think it's 1/3 actual size. They're dedicating it this Friday, which would be when the real Titanic sailed. Regis will be there. Ooh, ahh.

menu.jpg

The menu for 3rd class passengers. I love that "Gruel" is listed. Yummy! ;)

Third class cabin- ACTUAL size! There are identical beds on the other side that I couldn't fit in the photo, but otherwise, that's it! Makes those category 12 staterooms on DCL seem like a palace, huh? :)

firstclass.jpg

Part of a 1st Class cabin, for comparison. The bed looks so short!

coal.jpg

The boiler room. I noticed that you could pick up the shovel, but I just now see the "try to shovel coal" sign. Oohhh, that's what you were supposed to do!

deck.jpg

This part had an example of what it would be like to stand on the deck as the ship sank, and the angle got steeper and steeper. I could barely stand up while holding on while on the middle one! I didn't get a photo, but nearby was a pool of 28 degree water that you could stick your hand in- the temperature of the water when the ship sank. I managed to keep my hand in for 10 seconds, I can't imagine hours!

stairway2.jpg

The ceiling over the grand staircase.

And the required "waiting to meet Jack at the clock" photo. If you look at the museum's website, the lady who is on the main page took a photo of Mom and I at the staircase, but um, it turned out like this.

Disclaimer: I am not a giant. This was one funky angle, because my mom is really only about five inches shorter than me, not eight feet! Also, we are not this creepy looking in real life, I promise! I also love how she managed to get basically none of the actual staircase or statue or anything in the photo.

Thus, the moral of this story is: Don't trust the ship's maid to take your photo! (I think next time I'll call in James Cameron!) And no ship is unsinkable.

Wow, does that place look neat! I had not heard about it before. May have to check it out someday!

The whole history of the Titanic is fascinating to me. Thank you so much for sharing.

That is ULTRA cool!!! I've been fascinated with the Titanic for years. I want to go there!!!!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing! I noticed they serve breakfast, dinner, and supper. My grandma used to eat breakfast, dinner, and supper, too. That's interesting.

Ooh, something I forgot to mention- for you Harry Potter fans, there was a first class survivor named Lily Potter!

Very neat, Crystal, looks very interesting. And yes, definitely not creepy in real life, LOL.

The photographer must be the same person that decorates cakes at the grocery store! :rotfl2:

You all know, the lady who writes "happy birthday" and it's all squiggly. LOL

Great pictures! I would LOVE to see that museum. I've been a Titanic buff for years and I am just finishing up a Mini-unit with my 7th graders about it.

Thanks for the pics,

Sandy

Branson, MO. There's a similar one in Orlando, but I don't think that the artifacts at that one are real, and I don't think they allow photos. (Not sure since I haven't been, but that's what I've heard.)

Great pics, thank you for sharing.

Didn't they move the exhibit in the last year or so from its previous location? Do they still give you a ticket upon boarding, then at the end tell you the outcome of that particular passenger?

I've had almost a lifelong fascination with Titanic. The best site on the web, and I'm talking the BEST is:

http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/

They list everything known about every passenger. Down to what was on the body of those recovered from the water. Many pics are posted too. They didn't have pics of all passengers, but they have them of quite a few. I just can't say enough about the site.

I've always wanted to visit the museum when we've been in Orlando, but just haven't been able to squeeze it in yet.

Sorry, I guess I should have read the entire thread 1st. They're still great pics! :)

Interesting pictures ~ thanks for sharing. Amazing how the DCL has duplicated the Titanic in many ways, from how the ship looks on the outside to the "Jack at the clock" staircase. (Only Mickey or Ariel is the statue :wizard: )

I'll have to check out that museum this summer over in Orlando.

wow, i've always been totally interested in the titanic (i even had a computer game at one point where you had to be a passenger and you had to solve some crime). that place looks awesome. the titanic was such a beautiful ship.

wow those pictures are wicked cool... I love the staircase one!

mantysk8coach---which was is Gunnar and which one is Matthew??? I absolutely loved them!!!!

The Titanic Experience in Orlando is very cool and similar to what is seen in your photos. They gave everyone the name of an actual passenger and at the end of the tour we found if we had lived or not. Oldest DS was 7 when we went and he loved it most!

:thumbsup2 Thanks for posting the pics. Hopefully I will be able to go soon!!!!
