Titanic movie question

I'm guessing Rose's mom got a nice settlement from the sinking. I also wondered how Rose's mom never saw her again. Although, Rose doesn't say she never saw her mother again like she says she never saw Cal again, but it does seem to be assumed.

I'm sure Cal would not have hung on to the child. He only gave her a scornful glance when he came across her the first time and didn't help her until it benefited him. Hopefully her mother survived and she was reunited with her.

As for Rose's mother, I agree that Cal would have supported her, they seemed to get along and had the same ideas about class, and eventually he would have found a rich widower for her to marry.

If Rose's mother didn't recognize Rose's name on the survivor lists, you'd think she would have recognized her when Rose's work as an actress started making the rounds. Not sure if Rose was a stage actress or a movie actress, but if Rose's mother ever saw a photo of her she would have known who she was instantly.
This right here was the thing that irked me.

Even a stage actress at that time would have some photographic evidence. While her mother remarrying to a rich widower makes complete sense, I can’t imagine her not knowing her daughter was alive. I’ve always wondered if there was a line that was potentially cut during the final editing process where she mentions how her mother died or the last she heard of her. (Although part of me also wishes the story regarding her mother was her mother found her and she tore her a new one and cut her off).

Caledon saw the error of his way, and sought out solitude in the farthest jungles. There he decided to atone for his sins and he became The Phantom, masked crimefighter. They made a movie about this.

I still haven't seen Titanic nor The Phantom, but my answer should satisfy your curiosity. Buzz, you've come full circle now finally knowing the truth. Do yourself a favor, find a quiet moment to reflect on this closure. Tomorrow I'll be here to provide the answers to your Ace Ventura questions!

😄 You should totally watch the Phantom, that was a fun movie. And Billy Zane looked fantastic in it.

It's cheesey but fun. I remember when it came out I got a couple of Phantom rings from Subway or some fast-food joint.

This is like the best post ever!
Oh jeez, I wasn't prepared for this. But OK! OK BrianL!

I'd like to dedicate this award to my wife Charlize...

It's actually on my Vudu list, I'm getting around to it. I'm a fan of the 90's film The Shadow, which looks like much of the same style as The Phantom.

I had friends that worked at Subway at that time, I never got a ring but I did get lots of crappy Phantom tattoos.

Yeah, the Phantom and The Shadow do have a similar vibe. I like The Shadow a little better because I just think the character is cooler, but both are a good - but cheesey - time. I kind of miss when superhero movies could be like that - before they became the huge business and had to be super-slick. Even the bad ones today are slick, which makes them just plain bad. It's one thing when a bad movie knows it's kind of bad and just has fun with it, but the ones that are bad but try to present themselves like they are seriously good are just unbearable. I'm looking at you, DC Comics!

There was even a set of "The Phantom" movie trading cards:

I don't remember those. The Phantom probably had a movie magazine tie-in though. I had a movie mag for many 90's blockbusters, including The Shadow. The Shadow had a cool action figure line too. It's been long enough, I wouldn't mind seeing some new Shadow and Phantom films.

Edit: Sorry, Titanic fans, I guess you could say the CAmeron film discussion has hit an iceberg (wakka wakka).

I'd like to see a film universe with the King Features Syndicate characters - Phantom, Flash Gordon, & Mandrake the Magician. There was a cartoon in the 80's that had them all together - Defenders of the Earth! You could culminate with that film.

I remember this!

To bring it back to the Titanic discussion:

EDIT: Actually, that might not be the best Simpsons Clip, but I think Roger Corman's Titanic would be fun!

The syfy Phantom 2010 movie was great. Disney really should make an updated version. But back to Titanic. Did anyone ever ask why they made this stupid sequel (it has nothing to with the characters of the first movie)?

I wish James Cameron would just make a Titanic 2 movie about Rose’s life in the 1940’s (release it in 2027 as a 30 year anniversary movie like Top Gun 2 is doing) with some of the original cast. It would fun and it would have great storylines to pursue.

This thread brought back memories…when my son was 3 Titanic was his favorite movie and he watched it over and over and over. My daughter would watch the typical Disney movies, but my son LOVED titanic.

A Night to Remember from the 1950s is generally considered the most accurate Titanic movie.

The 1940s film with Barbara Stanwyck is soap opera garbage.

The made for TV movies about it are hit or miss.

The Broadway musical was good.

Okay, since we're now referencing other Titanic movies, how many here have seen "Raise the Titanic"? It was based on the Clive Cussler novel.

You have to remember that this was made before the actual ship was found. So, you have to suspend disbelief when you watch it nowadays.

It doesn't get shown on TV very often. I had my Tivo set to auto-record and it took a couple of years before it was shown.
