No, not the film. Blue Star Line are building a modern replica of the Titanic and are quoting 2027 as the launch date (severely delayed). It'll have many of the safety features missed out from the original ship. Given the number of times this ship has been delayed, do you think it will ever be launched? Work has reportedly been restarted after a cancellation. And who would go on it? Titanic buffs, interested parties? For some I'd imagine it could be a bit morbid!

I think they would have had a better chance of making a go of it maybe 25 years ago, when the movie was still so popular. If it does come to pass, I think it will be a novelty and then become just another cruise ship. There are a finite number of Titanic enthusiasts out there and once they have experienced it, will they be willing to go again? There have been several companies trying to do this and so far, none have succeeded.

As a Titanic enthusiast myself I would be interested in making one voyage, especially if they offered us the opportunity to honor those who perished at a point near the wreck site. It would be interesting to me to be able to spend time in the public areas of a ship that I have only read about. I think it would be a lot smaller than most people expect since we are so accustomed to the mega cruise ships of today. I remember comparing the dimensions of the Titanic against the first DCL ships and they were very similar in length and width, and the Titanic was shorter in height if you only counted deck height.

I can understand if descendants of Titanic passengers and crew would be against it, and I think a lot depends on how seriously the tragedy would be treated while on board. It was a very serious event and should be treated with respect. No Titanic trivia games or Titanic bingo please! I have visited Titanic museums and exhibitions and they were very serious and educational.
